condition at cape cod hospital. the crash is under investigation. the road was closed for several hours but it is now back open. we begin this morning with one state official's sudden resignation. state police are looking into what matthew was doing when he didn't want to sit in traffic. katie brace has the latest on the investigation. >> sitting in traffic was apparently not what deputy commissioner mat si sk he inappropriately used lights and sirens on a state vehicle and resigned friday. this was not the first time he found himself in trouble. david perk runs the institute at suffolk university. >> the governor has to be careful about the entitlement mentality that seems to have motivated this particular guy. >> the department runs this and his boss commissioner leo roy used dco resources and staff for a private july 3 party, had

suspended without pay for a week. >> the big take away is it's always been a haven for party regulars, loyalists, some might say hacks and experience that charlie baker has had with this guy is not untypical. >> he was a member of charlie baker's election team appointing him to the $112,000 a year gig and endorsed him for a seat on the state's republican committee. governor part governor baker is disappointed to learn about the poor judgment in inappropriately using a state vehicle. >> it will have a negative impact. it does suggest he better take a look at why people have state cars and why a director of operations at an obscure agency has emergency sirens and lights able to use to get home early. >> making sure they are only

state vehicles, katie brace wbz this morning. melrose police are investigating a pedestrian accident that happened saturday on lin street. paramedics took a 51-year-old man to the hospital with serious injuries. the driver did stop and is cooperating with police. two people were shot outside of a function hall on saturday. police responded to mosleys on bridge street. both men are expected to survive. police cleared a large crowd several people but so far no arrests. also a driver is in the hospital after crashing right into a house and missed a woman by just a few feet. paul burton reports on what might have caused the accident. >> it felt like a meteor shook the whole house. >> don said he was in the shower when he heard the crash. >> it went through a wall a corner and stopped in the back. >> i'm numb. >> numb because his wife was in

truck drove through it missing her by a few feet. >> it pushed the bureau but she didn't get injured. >> the crash happened around 8:00 saturday morning. the truck took out the front brick wall and caused structural damage to his home. >> i'm stunned the amount of damage by a truck. you'd think a tractor trailer came through here. >> it's all pushed in. the bedroom, the end table, the bed is all over the place. >> the driver of the truck houses away. still unclear how he got enough speed to go through the brick wall into his home. he fears he may have had a medical condition. >> apparently he was coming home and might have passed out at the wheel. i don't know. he has a lot of medical issues and went right through the wall. >> i hope the gentleman is okay as well who was driving the truck. >> don and his wife just completed renovating the home. >> i think if the wall wasn't

law is really shooken up. >> the driver was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. i'm paul burton wbz news. two people will head to court after police found heroin cocaine and cash and with a search warrant they arrested frederick diaz and leonardo legger. the charges include trafficking heroin in a school zone. firefighters morton hall early saturday morning and found flames burning right through the roof. 70 students made their way to safety. officials say this was a tough battle because of the building's height and copper roofing material. students can't live in the dorm because of the damage. no word on the cause. huge names from the boston sports world had a little shin

we have matthew out there this morning. latest forecast update said that it is a category four. winds 150 miles per hour. this is a formeddable storm. the storm looks like it's going to pass in between haiti and jamaica. we'll take a deeper look in the new york times is reporting that donald trump declared such a huge loss on his 1995 tax return $916 million that he might have legally avoided paying taxes for the next 18 years. the paper received trump's returns in the mail and they have been verified by his former tax lawyer. brooks silva bragga has more.

going to go up into this area between jamaica and haiti and the topography there is such that all of this heavy rain can cause huge mudslides and massive problems. there's also little islands out here they had to get folks off already. you are going to hear about this over the next couple of days and as this continues to move off to the north forecasted to be a category three here bahamas. that is still a major hurricane. perhaps diminishing down to a two after it goes through the bahamas and then of course you look here and go we are up there and this thing is headed north. the question is does it make it? does it go into the carolinas or take a right hand hook out to sea? honest? we don't know. we have no idea at some point. we have some idea it's not going to go really far to the west but it could impact our

third person is in the hospital right now. two cars collided on buck island road just before 11: 00 last night. two people died of their injuries. their names are not being released until police can get in touch with their families. the third person is in serious condition at cape cod hospital. the crash is under investigation. the road was closed for several hours while police were on scene but it is now back open. more fall out this morning against a former state official. state police are investigating suddenly as deputy commissioner of the department of recreation. he inappropriately used the lights and sirens on the state vehicle possibly to get out of traffic. sisk was also suspended for a private function the night before boston's july 4 celebration. a close call for a deadham woman who was in bed literally just feet from where a truck went through the wall of her

the front of the home. no one was hurt in the crash. police haven't said yet what made him lose control but the homeowner suspects he may have had a medical emergency. today is a big day for big papi. he'll play his last regular season game at fenway park. during yesterday's tribute every major boston team was well represented. so were charities and families he has effected. but the biggest applause of the nibe marathon bombing survivors. who could forget his famous this is our [bleep]ing city speech. a victim fund is now accepting applications for payments through the state attorney general's office. the pharmacy's tainted drugs killed at least 76 people and sickened more than 700 people nationwide. the fund is specifically for

discovering dozens of safety violations. regulators were preparing to enforcement measures prior to thursday's accident. new jersey transit did not respond to our request for comment. late saturday the train's engineer thomas gallagher ducked into his garage of his home after meeting with investigators. the ntsb did not release details from the interview. >> he'll tell us if he was attempting to work the throttle or work the brake. he'll tell us h he'll tell us if he saw signals. he will tell us exactly what happened in that cab. >> work to remove debris and possible asbestos contamination at the crash site continues keeping investigators from the crucial data recorder and front facing camera in the first car. ntsb vice chair bella dinhzar. >> as soon as the site is safe the ntsb will retrieve the

are adding more questions. ken mccloud has the story this morning. >> described as loving sisters and best friends with adventurous spirits robin and annie corkp died under mysterious circumstances while on the vacation of a life time a tropical paradise in the indian ocean. hotel workers found them unresponsive in their luxury vill acon commodities trader in chicago. annie was an administrative assistant in denver. they had been there about a week after first traveling to kenya and tanzania. their numerous facebook posts appear to show them happy and healthy with no clue as to what was coming. hotel staffers told police the sisters were so drunk the night before they died they had to be escorted to their villa. that was the last time they

pulmonary adima with fluid on the brain contributing to annie. neither woman had a history of such trouble but doctors say it can be caused by a drug overdose or alcohol poisoning. toxicology findings are on going. the area is known for it's beauty and serenity and annie described it as the best place ever. now family members are bringing their bodies home amid all sorts of unanswered questions. according to the autopsy results no visible injuries on the pair. their brother says robin and annie were veteran international travelers who were always kind generous and compassionate wherever they went. ken mccloud wbz this morning. more zika carrying mosquitoes have turned up in

drizzle this morning, cloudy skies, temperatures near 60 this afternoon under where we should be if you took the past 30 years all of the october 2 and averaged them out it's goaling to come out about 7 degrees higher than that 8 degrees higher but we are not too far away. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. we do have that spot of drizzle but generally it's just cloudy and that's what i'm going for this morning. notice winds, yesterday those winds were howling out of the northe you had the drizzle which was coming down heavy at times. today just cloudy so that's what we go for watching the game you notice just cloudy skies. no real danger of the game getting washed out. no rain delays. they'll be able to uncover the tarp and looks pretty good. now if you are headed to jillth stadium maybe you are tailgating you are going to leave not too distant future start tailgating late morning early afternoon and having

thank you for coming in. it's always a pleasure. i guess it's part of your job to be sued. you get sued all the time as the legal representative of the state. you are sued on several fronts right now over the gun regulations. you imposed this summer which your critics argue arbitrarily without public haring changed the -- hearing changed the definition of an assault weapon that turned thousands of law- abiding gun owners overnight. that's a quote from a critic. you told me before we went on, you believe the changes are working and having the desired affect. we can talk about that. do you have second thoughts about the process you followed? >> none whatsoever. i'm really pleased to see that the notice we sent out , the notice saying we are going to enforce the existing law is working. sales of the assault weapons have virtually stopped in the state. that's a good thing.
