using facebook's messenger app can be a bit of a headache. now a possible solution. a slimmed down version called messenger life. it takes up less space on your smartphone or tablet. it's only available in a handful of countries. it will expand soon. and facebook launched marketplace, it's a service like craigslist that lets you buy or sell things with other users. the company says marketplace makes it easier and faster to take pictures, upload them, and sell items online. >> you can imagine since the failure they've spent a lot of time figuring it out. remembers the victims of el faro. >> the way family and friends of new england crew members marked a somber anniversary. and it seemed like a cool idea and didn't go well. the risky business of crowd

big problems for a couple of pilots during a hot air balloon festival in new mexico. one balloon hit power lines and got stuck. the accident knocked out power and-- 1200 customers. and a balloon basket hit a fence. no injuries in either of the accidents. wildlife workers in florida rescued two baby manatees after learning that the twins' mother had died. the calves are now at the miami sea-aquarium. you can see the hailstones

sacramento area. no reports of any serious damage through but those are big hailstones. and hurricane matthew is headed straight for haiti. and the biggest issue with this one is the amount of rain. >> more rainfall than we've had in an entire year is going to fall in 24 hours. haiti is mountainous and we're looking at 15 to 25 inches of rain. and isolated totals in the mountains, 40 inches of rainfall. just amazing to think. and a very impressive hurricane on satellite has been moving off to the north. and it's heading to the western tip of haiti. port-au-prince is right about in here. it will stay off to the west. and rain will be the biggest threat. complicated steering currents when it comes to matthew over the next few days. the time stamp is right up here. and thursday it's in the

and there's a ridge of high pressure that brings us sunny skies. and that's going to help to steer matthew to the southeastern coastline. and notice the natural bend. that may work to the advantage of the southeastern states. it's likely that matthew parallels the coast which is a better situation than moving on shore when you have the momentum crashing into the shoreline. and when it comes to us down the line after the storm moves past north carolina the front late this weekend and the start of next week. will it absorb matthew and bring it up the coast or kick it out to sea. and that's the question we'll try to answer. it's all about the wind and the rain. and you can see the 10-inch plus totals expected to cross the bahamas and haiti. in the short term. a few showers, and popping up throughout the course of the day. manchester, and it will be isolated.

otherwise, a cool night and the clouds start to return. you see the showers moving west and diminishing. and tomorrow morning i expect it will be gray with drizzle as well. the wind will be on shore. and it should stay gray until lunchtime. and brighter skies to finish out our tuesday but a cool day. lows near 54 and the wind out of the east, northeast, five to event. and stronger gusts tomorrow. and a gray morng definitely jacket weather. we'll work in the sunny breaks and the winds will be gusting 25 miles per hour. especially towards cape cod and the islands. our sunset at 6:20 tomorrow. and highs mainly in the upper 50s to low 60s. the rest of the week not much to report. high pressure will be in control. wednesday to thursday to friday, they're all looking bright with chilly nights and comfortable afternoons in the 70s after we get past wednesday.

right now. live from the channel 4 studios in boston, this is wbz news at 6:00. we begin tonight with breaking news at 6:00. gloucester's police chief fired, accused of destroying evidence in an investigation into his action. >> the former chief calls the investigation a witch hunt. ken macleod is live with the latest in gloucester. >> reporter: the mayor of gloucester says she fire her nationally acclaimed police chief after a termination hearing that's required by his contract. all of this developing just about two hours ago in a stunning turn of events. >> the chief's actions were unethical and unacceptable. i've determined that the gloucester police department needs a change of leadership.

months. leonard campinello was made famous for his program to help with detox. he was suspended when a woman came forward alleging an inappropriate relationship. >> my officer received communications from a woman who made disturbing allegations regarding chief campinello's behavior. she expressed concern for her safety. >> a second victim was later identified. the chief provided a bunch of e- mails to investigators when asked but no office. when the cell phone was mailed to campinello's attorney, the chief claimed no knowledge of how it got there. but there's forensic and video evidence that he retrieved it and mailed it himself. everything on it had been erased. >> this phone was asked for and we eventually found out he destroyed the evidence. >> reporter: just before the
