20 newburg street -- one person is in custody. and the massive search is on for another system at this point. that includes the use of police k-9s. massachusetts state police and the commuter rail in the area is shut down as officers go on the tracks to search for the suspects there. a loft of moving parts. we're trying to parse through it and figure out what's going on. we'll send it back to you guys in the stunned. tracking hurricane matthew which is hitting haiti with devastating winds, cuba is next, and new england is now in the forecast cone.

management crews are preparing for a possible hit. they are watching closely in miami and west palm beach. >> people in the carolinas are also getting ready for the storms. they are filling the shopping carts with essentials and reviewing the evacuation plans. nine people are confirmed dead. >> we could see effects of the days. and you have interesting insight on where this may or may not go. >> they respond to dell late. there's a lot of agreement on where it goes for the next few days. the storm is making its way to the eastern tip of cuba and will make landfall in the next couple of hours. around guantanamo bay it's

he took the owner's canoe into the pond. dave teams a deadly shooting at a home in lawrence. police were called to the home mid-afternoon after somebody reported the shooting. a man in his 30s was found. he later died at the hospital. no word what led to the shooting. new pictures and new video after the moments that -- he says he bottle ran into trouble. >> wbz obtained photos and video from the crew of the freighter, the orient lucky that rescued 22-year-old nathan

for my actions. >> liam martin is here with what the former officer told the family. >> reporter: it was august 2014, the 19-year police veteran admits he had been drinking when he crashed his car. >> i have family that i care about too. i can't imagine them being taken away from me the way i took your family member away still grieving family in salem superior court, admitting his actions took -- from his family. >> i've wanted to apologize every single day. >> charged with manslaughter and changed his not guilty plea today. >> guilty or not guilty? >> guilty, sir. >> i plead guilty, sir.

four years in prison. >> my actions purposeful actions, negligent actions, took away someone that's clearly a beautiful and amazing person in your life. and i don't have and never will have the words to tell you how sorry i am for you. >> reporter: powerful moments there. and the prosecutor asked for a seven to 10-year sentence and the judge agreed time. and he'll face three years of probation after the prison term. it's hard not to think of the folks in haiti. when we look at the images of matthew and see it on the radar, it's a monster storm. >> and after it moves out. they'll be contending with the devastation. and the storm is still enormous. >> the last time a category 4 hurricane hit haiti was back in

couple of days before we get the full report as well as the dominican republic which saw a lot of flooding. for us in new england, the time frame to watch would be late saturday to sunday. and i'm favoring a track well offshore to the south but even if it makes a close pass we could get rain out of this late saturday to sunday as it links up with a front that moves through. i think we'll have more clarity as to whether or not you should evaluate your plans as to wednesday and thursday. you'll have several days notice as we clamp down on the steering currents that kick at a time where -- dictate where matthew goes. a second landfall, just east of guantanamo bay. and it starts to steer it down to florida. it takes a left turn and heads to the florida coastline.

into north carolina late this week and into the start of the weekend. so the big question from there is does the high pressure really hold forth here and it keeps it from moving up the east coast or will it allow for it to drift up the eastern seaboard close enough to give us rain. a direct hit seems unlikely. and we're hoping for some rainfall if it comes close enough to ease the drought a i'm not expecting a destructive system. in the short term. temperatures in the 60s. really just a classic october day as the morning clouds and we got into the sunshine and the 50s and the wind is out of the northeast. and there's a strong nor'easter just offshore. and it stays offshore and keeps the winds gusty. tonight we fall into the 40s. 50s towards the city and the coast. the strongest wind gusts 20 miles per hour. along the coast to cape cod and

chilly start, a really nice day. we get into brighter skies and temperatures in the 60s, a few degrees warmer than this afternoon. and the sun sets at 6:18. highs in the 60s for us. and that's right on target for this time of the season. the rest of the week, not much to report. high pressure is in control. great weather on thursday and friday and not as much wind as what we've been seeing. and the mp of friday. and 70s again on saturday. so a warming trend and an average high in boston this time of year is 66. most of the forecast is above average. how about this weekend? columbus day weekend and a lot of plans, right? right now i'm keeping the chance for rainfall late saturday to sunday. if it stays farther south, we might miss the rain all

latest live shots fired in roslindale. louisa moller joins us now. >> reporter: you might be able to see a s.w.a.t. vehicle pulling in to the area where this happened. we're here at belgrade in roslindale. and the shooting incident happened on newburg. that's a block down. and you can see the street go off to the side. at this point there was a massachusetts state police operation going on.

operation. one suspect in custody. and i can tell you i just found out from mass state police, thankfully, no one was struck during that incident. but what's going on now is a massive search for the another suspect with s.w.a.t. we're talking about massachusetts state police, air wing, k-9s as well. a lot going on and lots of information coming in to the newsroom. and as soon as we have more, we'll get back to you. >> obviously, the fare being that the second suspect has a and that's the worry in roslindale.
