low level clouds that are in place in the southeast part of the state. skies are mainly clear, if we see a few patchy clouds, most of them giving way to sunshine. partly sunny, sunrise at 6:46. 61 by lunchtime with sun and cloudings. right around 60 at the coast. no weather related issues. 64 inland with the sunset at 6:18. hurricane matthew waiting on the 5:00 a.m. upset. category 3 major hurricane with 125-mile moving north at 8-miles per hour and likely regain category 4 status, passing somewhere to north and east of miami as we head into the evening hours tomorrow and parallel the coastline of florida and eventually curve up towards south carolina and the outer banks, time frame as we head into the start of the weekend as a category 2 hurricane and a big cone of uncertainty.

of new england. we'll talk about what that means for our upcoming holiday forecast. preparing for hurricane matthew this morning. >> hurricane watches and warnings are up for parts of the east coast of florida while evacuations are getting jury was duly underway in the carolinas. residents and property owners have until thursday in south carolina. complete evacuation of the coast will begin more than a million people to move 100 miles inland. roads were jammed last night as some people started heeding warnings. >> matthew is now heading for the bahamas after the hurricane's eye made land fall last night. the area of cuba was expected to get about 8 to 12 inches of rain. meanwhile, roads turnedded into rushing rivers. the extent of the damage remains unclear, because the storm knocked out phone and internet service for much of

been blamed on matthew in the caribbean. stay with wbz as we track hurricane matthew. you can get the latest information by down loading the cbs boston weather app to your smart phone or tablet. >> a car slams into an apartment building. this was the scene on north shore road. the car went through the side of a building and into a bedroom and living room. no one inside was hurt. the driver was taken to the hospital. no word on what caused that crash. two men are due in roslynndale. the second suspect was taken into custody last night about five hours after shots were fired at officers. wbz has the very latest now on the investigation. >> 25-year-old, eric rosato gonzalez in custody after a man hunt and police operation gone awry. >> boston police were involved in a joint investigation. here on newberg street.

the suspect. >> police say rosato gonzalez and another person opened fire and two officers fired back. >> all of a sudden, i hear pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. >> thankfully, no one was shot and one suspect was arrested immediately. >> at this time, he's going to be charged with assault with intent to murder. >> gonzalez fled. >> the next thing three or four cops on foot, guns out. they went through my neighbor's backyard, and then they went through our parking lot as well. >> that's when law enforcement swarmed this neighborhood. cops and police dogs scoured belgrade avenue. the commuter rail shut down as law enforcement searched the train tracks. as it grew dark, s.w.a.t. teams moved in, canvassing the neighborhood and is the state police helicopter looked down

gonzalez was captured. >> i wanted to make sure it was safe before we opened it up. >> gonzalez will be charged with assault with intent to murder. one police officer suffered minor injuries in this ordeal and police are not revealing the nature of their operation. louisa, wbz this morning. a 19-year-old man due in court to face charges in a deadly shooting in lawrence. police man in his 30s. police have not released the victim's name or a motive for that shooting. >> 4:35, harvard dining hall workers set to go on strike at 6:00 this morning. the harvard reports this is the first time the union's history that workers will walk off the job during the school year. the union wants workers to make $35,000 a year. harvard says workers make $22 an hour among the highest in the region. an e-mail went out to students yesterday telling them some

now. getting to the season, right? this rain, we don't have to worry about right now. this front that is coming through the midwest is a slow mover and play a role in determining where matthew goes as we head into the upcoming weekend. we'll talk about that in a second. highs today, low 60s at the coast. mid to upper 60s. clear skies tonight, patchy fog, and a few of the coldest suburbs and maybe a touch of frost and the chilliest kind most sheltered areas with temperatures dipping back into the 30s in the suburbs tonight. 51 downtown with a calm wind and clear skies. ideal for radiational cooling. a warmup around 70. it's going to be beautiful. low to mid 70s through the interior and above average day. plenty of sunshine, looks fantastic. now let's talk about hurricane matthew. 25-mile per hour winds right now. category 3 major hurricane, just off the eastern tip of

hour. hurricane warnings, they do not include miami, but do include west palm beach, and a hurricane watch is up for places like melbourne, stretching up to daytona beach. i wouldn't be surprised it's upgraded. overnight tonight, and may restrengthen to a category 4 status. just off the coastline of florida, as we head into day tomorrow, and on friday, parallelling the coastline and slowly gradually weakening. even cluely eventually to a category 3 hurricane. still a big cone of uncertainty here, but likely to become a category 1 hurricane well south of new england. signs of the front coming in, helped to keep matthew to our south as a big ridge of high

so the time frame still to be on alert for would be late saturday into sunday, either way if that cold front comes in, a few showers with it. the exact track obviously is still to be decided. odds do favor an offshore track in new england. still a chance to get rain, if it gets close enough. we are keeping you on alert, but signs are that at least matthew may stay well to our south. that would still mean some building surf and swell at beeches. temperatures in the 70s through the start of the weekend and 60s for sunday through columbus day. kate. >> daniel yell, thank you. hurricane matthew has caused the biggest humanitarian crisis since the earthquake in 2010. roads are impassable and communications are out. the u.n. says hospitals are over flowing and emergency shelters are packed. local charities, including this one in newton have been doing their part to get supplies and

no small job. >> a normal stream led by the hospital is now a 15 to 20-foot river. rushing through. the nicu is full of babies. we have 120 patients. >> one of the only hospitals in haiti that has incubators for newborns. the hospital staff was able to stockpile some supplies, so they should have enough food and water for days. and encouraging news for orphanage. all the children in its care are safe. and its property has been spared the severe damage of the rest of the islands they are seeing. brittany killed doing missionary work. >> an investigation is underway this morning after a man's body is pulled from a pond. the victim was working as a landscaper and took a canoe during a break. a coworker on shore saw the

dive teams searched the pond for three hours before they found the man's body in 15 feet of water. police haven't released his name, but he was 35 years old. >> new video shows the moment the young man was rescued after spending a week stranded at sea. take a look. nathan carmen swimming up to the freighter. hoisted him up on the ship. these are pictures after he was on board. carmen's mother is in presumed dead. police are investigating her disappearance. so far, there are no charges. >> a judge dismissed a lawsuit that would have challenged the state's cap on charter schools. they lost a lottery for open seats. the students say they were forced instead to attend poor quality schools where they had little hope of success. in november, massachusetts voters will decide whether to expand the current cap on the number of charter schools
