done. >> breaking overnight, a car slams into an apartment building in revere. new details coming in this morning. two men due in court today. the man hunt to track one of them down and can the serious charges they are facing. >> live from the channel 4 studios in boston. this is wbz news this morning. >> good morning to you, 5:00 right now, thank you so much for joining us, i'm chris mackinnon. >> wednesday, october 5, and all eyes on information in this morning. >> literally, a couple minutes ago from the national hurricane center. matthew has 5-mile per hour winds. category 3. major hurricane. the outer rain band, some of the surge, some of the wind really starting to impact some of the bahamas now as matthew makes its way to the north. eventually take the curve and restrengthen into a category 4 hurricane, parallelling the

of the weekend, weakening to a category 2 storm. if you watched yesterday, came close to the outer banks of the carolinas. closer to new england, now there are signs that matthew may kind of take a curve toward the east. we are not in the cone of uncertainty at this point at all. this will be by sunday night. it does look good for us, in terms of the fact that matthew may stay to our south with limited impact widespread 40s in the suburbs. clear skies, low level clouds on the cape. today will be beautiful. nice by october standards. out of the 40s this morning. sunrise at 6:46. 61 by lunchtime and topping out in the mid to upper 60s. no issues, a touch cooler at the coast with sunset at 6:18. we'll take you out through the end of the week coming up. >> you can see right now at the

smoothly on the connector. you are a clear ride in on 93 from the new hampshire border straight into downtown this morning. we'll keep an eye on it as we go throughout the morning. breaking overnight, a car slams into an apartment building. this was the scene on north shore road. the car went through the side of the building into a bedroom and living room. no one inside was hurt. but the driver was taken to the hospital. no word yet on what caused that crash. >> two men are due in court after a shootout. >> it took a nearly five hour man hu those suspects. let's get to ana with the latest for us. ana. >> and chris, fortunately, no one was shot during that exchange of gunfire. this morning, both suspects are in custody and facing charges of assault with intent to murder police officers. >> all of a sudden, i hear pop, pop, pop, pop. >> a roslynn dale neighborhood is caught up in a massive crime

and massachusetts state police lead to a shootout with two suspects. >> the suspect opened fire on the offices. at that time, both offices engaged in exchange of gunfire. >> no one was shot and one suspect was arrested immediately. but police say a second suspect, 25-year-old, eric rosato gonzalez took off, prompting a five hour man hunt. >> yeah, pretty crazy. >> swat teams and police dogs swarm the avenue. >> the next thing you know, three or four cops on foot. they went through my neighbor's backyard. >> law enforcement searched the track. and scoured the street frs above. finally just before 10:00, police capture rosado gonzalez. >> i apologize to the inconvenience for the neighborhood, but we wantedded

>> the commissioner says the entire city is a safer place with these two men off the streets. gonzalez was wanted for drug possession. reporting live, wbz this morning. >> a 19-year-old man due in court today to face charges in a deadly shooting in lawrence. police say isaiah shot a man in his 30s yesterday. police have not released the victim's name or a motive for that shooting. >> states in for hurricane matthew. evacuations are underway right now in the carolinas. a mandatory evacuation of visitors in north carolina's island began at 5:00 this morning. just minutes ago. residents and property owners have until thursday to evacuate. in south carolina, a complete evacuation of the coast will start today. that state's governor asking more than a million people to move 100 miles inland. hurricane watches and warnings are also in effect for parts of

the bahamas after the hurricane's eye made land fall near the tip of eastern cuba last night. that area of cuba was expected to get about 8 to 12 inches of rain. meanwhile in haiti, roads turned into rushing rivers. the extent of the damage still remains unclear, because the storm knocked out phone and internet service to much of the country. so far at least 11 deaths have been blamed on matthew in the caribbean. and our wbz weather team is tracking hurri it moves toward the east coast of the u.s. you can track it on air and online and get the latest information just by down loading our cbs boston weather app to your phone or tablet. harvard dining hall workers set to go on strike at 6:00 this morning. an hour from now, the harvard crimson reporting, this is the first time in the union's history that the workers will walk off the job during the school year. the union wants to make sure the workers get about $35,000 a

highest in the region. an e-mail sent to students told them some dining halls will be closed during the strike, so others will extend their hours. high school athletes suspended after pictures surfaced of them holding alcohol at a sleep over and it all happened at the home of a local police chief. nicole jacobs is live with this story. nicole. >> kate, school officials say an anonymous tip led to this suspended for a quarter of the season. >> a sleep over at this groveland home saturday came with more than your typical girls play for the varsity soccer team, according to school officials. one of the players apparently snuck in a bottle of vodka all happening at the home, who has two daughters on the team. over the phone, i have known most of these girls since they were little.

cell phone picture of the alcohol laced -- proof of the m.i.a.a. chemical health policy violation. as a result, 16 members of the team are now suspended for four games. the superintendent of schools releasing a statement reading in part, school officials are working closely with students and families through these difficult circumstances. the police chief went on to tell wbz he takes ownership of what the girls did, though he is not su have done. he always told his daughters they must face the consequences of their actions, and they are now learning what that means. >> his next girls soccer game is this afternoon. nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. former patriot tight end is due in court today. he has a status conference scheduled for his upcoming double murder trial expectedded to begin in february.

gunned down two men outside a boston nightclub in 2012, after one of them accidentally bumped into hernandez causing him to spill his drink. >> an investigation is underway this morning after a man's body is pulled from a pond. police say the victim was working as a landscaper at a nearby home. took a canoe into morris' pond. a coworker on shore saw the canoe capsize yesterday and called 911. dive teams searched the pond for three hours before finding the man's body in water. police have not released his name, but he was 35 years old. >> 5:08 right now. checking in on campaign 2016. after the two vice presidential nominees clashed during last night's debate. both candidates defending the top of their ticket. craig boswell has the highlights from virginia. >> tim kaine and mike pence ended their one and only debate shaking hands. but for much of the night -- >> when donald trump says women should be punished or mexicans

the weather today, it looks beautiful. the 60s for most of us. 70s to end the week. temperature wise right now, it's a little chilly out the door. 49 in boston. mid 40s to lawrence. 42 in manchester. 43 at keen. and then in the 50s on the cape, we're milder in the southeast part of the state because we have low level clouds. the rest of us mainly clear. some may drift inland. otherwise, big area of high pressure in control of the weather. the next several days, are areas of rain, all the way from minnesota stretching back down toward northern arkansas. this front actually is going to play a pretty big role in our weather as we head into the upcoming weekend. we'll talk about that in a second. low to mid 60s for highs today, on shore wind again, keeping us cooler at the immediate coastline. low to mid 60s on the cape today. normal for this time of year. cooler at the coast. patchy fog that develops, clear skies, calm wind.

suburbs dipped into the mid to upper 30s. 35 to 44 for most of us, and probably the most sheltered valleys that get real chilly on these. there may be a touch of frost in a few communities. look at this. 70 right at the coast tomorrow, that's going to feel nice. and then we turn our attention to hurricane matthew. category 3 storm. 125-mile per starting to impact the bahamas. matthew is moving north at 10 miles per hour and a curve to the north and west during the day today. hurricane watches have now been extended northward. right to the georgia border. right off the coast of jacksonville. the east coast is on guard for hurricane matthew, as it is likely to restrengthen to a category 4 storm. and impact the east coast of florida during the day on

track. now has shifted matthew east and south. well south of new england, looking like minimal impacts here at home and all thanks to the cold front i just talked about. it is going to come in, a big area of high pressure, that will help to keep that moisture south, block matthew from coming northward. we would likely see some building surf and swell and obviously, we will still monitor the track very closely. we are several days out. anything could change. but, looking le likely like minimal impacts. kate. >> all right, thank you, danielle. checking the roads. we have breaking news, a serious crash to tell you about. an overturned tractor trailer is blocking all lanes on 495 north. this is just before the exit to route 290. state police are urging drivers to avoid the area. that's a very busy area. we'll bring you updates as soon as we get them. >> a former police officer

driving drunk. 43-year-old, eric wayne says he was driving drunk back in 2014 when he crossed the center line of route 110 hitting another vehicle. that crash killed brian and severely injured his sister. >> my actions, purposeful actions, negligent actions, took away someone that is clearly a beautiful, amazing person in your life. i don't have, never will i am for you. >> wayne was sentenced to four years in prison. he retired from the lowell police force. before he was formally indicted. >> 5:19. the state has taken governmentissued cars away from 22 workers after a month long review. that's according to the boston harold. the workers came from seven different agencies, including the department of conservation

vehicle inappropriately. and a judge has dismissed a lawsuit that would have challenged the state cap on charter schools. five students sued after they lost a lottery for open seats in the boston charter schools. the students say they were forced instead to attend poor quality schools where they had little hope of success. in november, massachusetts voters will decide whether to expand the current cap on the number of charter schools allowed in massachusetts. >> the state's highest granted parental rights. the court ruled the woman whose former girlfriend gave birth to two children through invitro has the same parental rights as the child's biological mother. family court ruling, finding a person may establish themselves as a presumptive parent under state law, even without a biological connection. up next, the celtics are back. >> the show of unity before the preseason opener and a closer

quiet evening. mid 60s, sunset at 6:18. category 3, still a major hurricane. would likely obtain status, likely take a curve, skirting the outer banks and stay well south of new england as we head into the upcoming holiday weekend. that's the great news. minimal impact for us here at home, likely to see building seas. we'll talk more about matthew coming up in a few. >> thank you so much. let's take a lo for you. we are monitoring a crash here. this is breaking news. a tractor trailer crash happened on 495 north between exits 25 and 26. state police say that truck is blocking all of the northbound lanes of 495. traffic is being diverted at exit 25 because the on ramps to 290 are also closed. troopers are urging everyone to avoid those areas. also, there's an accident on 93 southbound.

there. that will cause some delays as people make their way into the city. >> just about 5:32 right now on your wednesday. checking your top stories, two men accused of shooting will be in court today. police say 25-year-old, luis calone opened fire. officers fired back. thankfully no one was hit. he was after a massive man hunt that lasted several hours. and breaking overnight, a car slams into an apartment building. this was the scene on north shore road. the car went through the side of the building and into a bedroom and living room. no one was inside was hurt. the driver was taken to the hospital. no word on what caused that crash. >> new video shows the moment a young man was rescued after spending a week stranded at sea. that is nathan carmen, swimming up to the steps of this

life raft and hoisted him up on to the ship. these are photos taken after he was on board, carmen's mother, who was with him on the boat is missing and presumed dead. police in several states are investigating her disappearance. so far, no charges have been filed. >> another case of creepy clowns in massachusetts, parents are being warnedded to be on alert after some students were sent threatening text messages about clowns from an unknown number. similar messages have been reported across the encourages parents to monitor children activity online and on social media and report anything strange. >> states in the south bracing for hurricane matthew. evacuations are underway right now in the carolinas. visitors will have to leave north carolina's island. residents and property owners have until thursday to evacuate the area. in south carolina, a complete evacuation of the coast will start today. that state's governor asking more than a million people to
