homeowner in hope dale. surveillance cameras capturing an amazon driver going over the lawn. this is just unacceptable. >> amazon contacted the homeowner and said they would pay for the damage. bill shields talked with him. >> reporter: like everyone else, paul has had a hard time keeping his lawn looking good. so it probably didn't help when a delivery driver decided use his grass for a turnaround. >> i liked at the tape and this guy is barreling through the driveway and turning around in my yard. that's just caught me so off guard. >> the driveway is big enough for just about any truck to turn around in but this guy decided the grass would make it even easier. he says he was happy that amazon delivered the package on

looking into it. >> honestly, something as simple as an apology. that's what would make all the difference. it's just unacceptable to do stuff like that. >> considering that amazon is pushing heavily the use of drones to deliver their products. maybe now would be a perfect time. in hope dale, i'm bill shields, wbz news. we're tracking hurricane tt dozens of homes in cuba and the winds are taking aim at the bahamas. there are mandatory evacuations in parts of the southeastern u.s. as officials are bracing for this strong storm. and eric fisher is here with the latest. >> and this is going to be different from a lot of hurricanes which might go across the state and head to the gulf. this gets to the coast and then rides it all the way up to

more communities than it otherwise might. winds at 10 miles per hour. the center is moving up to the bahamas and away from cuba which should allow it to get stronger in the overnight. here's why it may not impact us. there's a big area of high pressure in the northeast and that's going to steer it west to florida, georgia, and south carolina. initially, you see the dip in the jet stream across michigan. that was going to come down deeper, grab matthew, and steer and now it's a flatter flow and it's not enough to grab the storm and bring it to new england. there's the official track as a category 4 hurricane right along the coastline. and then stalling out and moving south. we'll have more on matthew and in the meantime, what a great stretch of weather over the next couple of days. details on that coming up. download the cbs boston weather app to stay on top of hurricane matthew.

facebook page. follow our weather team on twitter and on www.cbsboston.com. it was a mess on 495. a tractor-trailer flipping, blocking all of the northbound lanes near exit 26. the driver was trapped in the cab and had to be flown to the medical center with serious injuries. a car went right through the side on north shore road right into a bedroom living room. fortunately, no one was hurt but paramedics took the driver of the car to the hospital. dining hall workers are on strike. they are fighting with the university over wages and healthcare benefits. only a few select harvard dining halls are open. this is the first time in the union's history that workers have staged a strike during the school year. campaign 2016 and with the

>> i'm johnny. >> that was quite a catch. a future right there. you have got a lot on your plate. and we've got beautiful weather but rooking at florida -- looking at florida. >> a really bad situation for the alabama, florida, georgia, south carolina, north carolina. and matthew is over warm water and i would expect that the power of the storm will go up overnight and into tomorrow morning. the immediate u.s. florida. hurricane warnings there in the bright pink, and then tropical storm warnings are in place. and hurricane watches are in place for the jacksonville area and heading into south carolina and georgia. we take a look at some model expected wind gusts here. as we head to tomorrow morning, we have the center right towards the bahamas. and very strong winds in nassau and the free port area.

the coast of florida. tomorrow night, very row beach. >> and titusville. and this is moving northward, bringing the strong gusts up to savannah and charleston. not just the wind but the rain. and what i'm focused on for the sake of impact is south carolina and north carolina over 10 inches of rain in the past few weeks. and if you see 10 to 20, there could be catastrophic floods there. a lot of things to watch when it comes to matthew. temperatures are mainly in the 60s. the cloud cover today has been persistent across cape cod, the islands, the south shore. everyone else in the sunshine. and we should see mainly clear skies and a chilly evening. we could see patchy frost.

the immediate shoreline. a cold morning and like many fall days we warm up beautifully. and temperatures in the 70s inland and we'll stay in the 60s along the coast. and more of the same as we look at friday. sunshine, less wind, gorgeous warm afternoon in the 70s. and saturday we start to bring in rain. even though matthew is well off to the south. usually you get a plume of tropical moisture that can ride up the coastline and meet with the front which is helping to protect us but at the same time will channel some of the rain. the best chance for seeing the much needed rainfall is saturday evening and night and might linger into sunday morning. it could impact some weekend plans. going for low 70s on saturday with the increasing clouds and the chance of late day rainfall. clearing on sunday and breezy out of the northwest. and temperatures will hold. and look at columbus day, full sun, less wind, 60 degrees.

powerful and deadly storm. >> right now in florida, evacuations and emergency preparations are well underway. the governor says this could be the biggest evacuation ever in that state. along the atlantic coast there's a rush to stock up on grocery stores and gasoline ahead of the storm. parts of the caribbean are just beginning to assess the damage. >> matthew hit haiti as a category 4 hurricane and the results, catastrophic. death. and that death toll sadly could go up. the storm destroyed schools, washed out roads, and forced 14,000 from their homes. and high winds and a strong storm surge destroyed dozens of homes in cuba. >> there are reports that the 125-mile-per-hour winds trashed a tourist town.

eye on the track of the storm. >> good news for us but not the folks in florida. >> the trend has been our friend in new england. doesn't look like we'll see direct impact. right now 120-mile-per-hour winds and that makes it a category 3 hurricane. but it's expected to grow stronger overnight and into the day tomorrow. returning to category 4 strength. and on the track, you see it regaining the jupiter, florida, by late tomorrow evening and tomorrow night. from there, it may make landfall on the space coast. and then as we look to friday and saturday. it's going to move along the coastline of georgia, south carolina, and north carolina before taking a dive stalling and moving back to the south as we head to next week. the probability of hurricane force winds, basically a slam dunk across the bahamas
