of there. it sounds like, eric, this is just a really scary situation. >> a lot of people there, you know, it's florida. when you think of florida and hurricanes that many people have never been through a hurricane this strong. >> it's been a while. >> we have not had a cat 3 or stronger since wilma. in this part of florida they have never had a category 4 make landfall. so if this does move into the coast it is scary stuff out. there take a look at the satellite picture. certainly not losing any strength, in fact it's been gaining strength. it's a category 4 again. and in that core, it's about to move right over freeport in the bahamas. it'll continue a northwest track that will go into melbourne late tonight and early tomorrow morning. you can easily see the rainbands that are spiraling well around. there's an outside eye wall and an inner eye wall. that inner eye wall is where the strongest winds overall are. if that could get on land, we could be looking at gusts over
5:19 pm
florida. so that, of course would be devastating for the area. so here is a look at that track. it just skirts the coastline. little last-minute wobbles are really going to determine how bad it really gets. this is similar to charlie back in 2004. it took a last-minute wobble away from tampa bay and hit the state down towards captiva. you're going to see where that ends up occurring. otherwise it goes right along the coast of georgia, south carolith track that will start to weaken as it moves its way southward and tries to come back at florida next week. that part of the track is very uncertain. it is something that we're going to need to hash out the next couple of days. also a tremendous amount of rain right up at the coast. i've been mentioning how i'm concerned about coastal south carolina and north carolina. they see 10 to 15 inches of rain and then add another 10 inches of rain on top of that, so the flood threat is very high along with the winds.
5:20 pm
with the temperatures in the 60s, middle 70s out there. high pressure is in control. we're going to get one more day like this before our front moves in from the west. that front protects us and also brings a chance for a couple of showers this weekend. so tonight clear, some patchy fog, but it is chilly again in the mid-30s for most of the suburbs, about 50 downtown boston, but a cold night and tomorrow morning there will be a chill in the air. just like today we're going to warm back up into the 70s tomorrow afternoon with a picture perfect friday then we move towards the weekend and that front moving in from the west will bring increasing cloud cover on saturday with a chance for some rain showers as we head into saturday evening. during the day there will be a ton of events going on. then the question mark will be exiting the coastline. moving up eastern massachusetts while interior areas and northern new england will stay sunny. looking at the forecast it'll
5:21 pm
we're at 60s with a cloud cover. then a beautiful columbus day holiday on monday with full sunshine. it'll be cool, crisp, right near 60. it will be excellent out in cleveland for the next two nights. then when the sox return home on sunday, 62 at first pitch, it'll be sunny, but then it will be chilly when the sun goes down. plan on bringing a blanket. columbus day weekend, you're looking at foliage. near-peak conditions around all the higher elevations. so this is the absolutely if you are thinking about that road trip this is the time to go. here is your accuweather seven- day forecast, 60s and 70s with all sunshine and all dry to go with it. david and lisa over to you. >> all right, eric, thank you so much. well keeping black friday on a friday. >> coming up the nation's largest mall is taking a stand against shoppers on thanksgiving day who are hunting for sales. coming up at 5:30, facebook is making a change to try to protect your privacy. how you can keep and protect your conversations on

florida. millions have been ordered to evacuate. tonight live images from west palm beach. airlines have canceled nearly 3,000 flights for today and tomorrow. >> florida is already seeing some of the storm's outer band. chief meteorologist eric fisher is here tonight with the very latest. >> pretty much it is just wait and see what little wobble this eye might make as it approaches the shoreline over the next 24 hours. right now a direct hit on po clearly showing up right over freeport. we see a lot of lightning wrapping around the eye. that's usually some indication that it is strengthening. the wider eye wall you can see is circling the smaller one. that outer one may collapse and strengthen around the inside one. that's where the strongest winds are found. that's a trend we're going to monitor tonight, but you can see the expected wind gust moving towards the coast towards the coast of florida.
