florida. millions have been ordered to evacuate. tonight live images from west palm beach. airlines have canceled nearly 3,000 flights for today and tomorrow. >> florida is already seeing some of the storm's outer band. chief meteorologist eric fisher is here tonight with the very latest. >> pretty much it is just wait and see what little wobble this eye might make as it approaches the shoreline over the next 24 hours. right now a direct hit on po clearly showing up right over freeport. we see a lot of lightning wrapping around the eye. that's usually some indication that it is strengthening. the wider eye wall you can see is circling the smaller one. that outer one may collapse and strengthen around the inside one. that's where the strongest winds are found. that's a trend we're going to monitor tonight, but you can see the expected wind gust moving towards the coast towards the coast of florida.

space coast. in and around titusville or heading into cape canaveral. that'll be early tomorrow morning. then it will take a path that goes right up that shore. travels 95, curves around the coast of georgia as well as south carolina as we head into the weekend. this is the wave action. those wave heights are over 20 feet offshore. so we could see a very significant storm surge. a storm surge is not just wind, but the deadliest part of the hurricane. that's why they issue evacuations. that wall of water could move into an area. you see all the traffic listening to the evacuation orders. we'll stay on top of this storm track by downloading the cbs boston weather app and look for the storm updates on our facebook page by following our weather team on twitter or on our website cbsboston.com. creepy clowns are setting off scares here and all over the country. now someone is actually facing the consequences. as wbz bill shields explains, a teenager is facing charges of using social media to fuel the panic.

as this juvenile put it, it is just a prank, but it is a very serious prank. he was immediately arrested and taken into custody. >> reporter: this is a 17-year- old arrested on twitter where he calls himself arsenic kid. he was threatening to drop students at rehoboth high. >> he posted these threats online. >> some appearing on college campuses and sometimes they claimed to be armed. it may have started as a prank, but now the scary clowns have taken on a sinister life of their own. parents say it is taking a toll on their kids. >> i know that my son in particular, he's worried every time that it is nighttime that he's going to have a clown come and attack. my kids have made comments about it that it is kind of scary.

resistant -- to antibiotics. four of the students contracted mrsa including three of the football players. the state's new electronic tolling system is raising real concerns about privacy because the state wants to be able to keep your information about speed on file for a month. wbz's christina hager is live tonight in boston. christina? >> reporter: well lisa you know every time you drive under one of records information like your license plate, what you're driving, where you're going, how long it took to get there. officials will hold on to that information for some time. the new open tolls light up like the paparazzi making drivers like raymond wolf uncomfortable about what the state is keeping on file. >> because it is your personal information and all this stuff that's going on with the technology today. that's why i feel like it. i don't feel safe with my

registry. >> reporter: today they approve add plan to keep information collected through electronic tolling for as long as seven years. >> we need to be able to produce a document to prove that you were there at that time so that the information that we are sending to the invoices are matched by other evidence to prove that you owe the taxpayers of the commonwealth money. >> reporter: who during that time has access to that information? >> our private vendor and us only. >> reporter: here is the breakdown. the state will keep information about trips for seven years. speed for a month, pictures for three months to seven years, and video for 180 days. some say it is worth the ease of the new technology. >> i think it's pretty secure. i'm not concerned. >> reporter: while others see them as the highway system's big metal version of big brother. >> i think now everybody is tired of what's going on. i don't know if it is trusting. >> the last thing we want is to

deduct their childcare expenses from their income taxes. >> his childcare plan makes a difference for working families. more money, more freedom. he is helping americans just like us. >> well that $5,000 tax break they flashed on the screen looks good, doesn't it? but it is less than half of the $13,000 a year working parents typically pay for childcare here in massachusetts. if you don't earn enough to pay any income xe offers a less than $1,200 annual rebate helpful perhaps, but still a drop in the bucket. and because stay-at-home parents get the tax break too, the cost is huge. an estimated $500 billion over ten years. none of that of course is in the ad. that will ruin the deficit. clinton has run several ads promoting her advocacy for children and families. what about her latest? >> well it is missing one key component.

for kids and families. and it will be my mission to build a country where our children can rise as high as their dreams and hard work takes them. that means good schools for every child in every zip code. college that leads to opportunities, not debt. >> now that's awfully vague from a campaign that has attacked trump for being light on policy specifics. while clinton has vowed to cut childcare costs at 10% of e explain how that's going to work. her promise of good schools in, "every zip code," relies on major increases in federal spending. and her call for free tuition for in-state students at public colleges doesn't mention that tuition is less than half the cost of attending those schools. those are important details. again both candidates are just whipping on that. maybe that's why a lot of undecided voters are still

this is just a wild scen >> you see the employees fighting back against an armed man with a knife. police say that one man barged into the technology company and they started sweeping that weapon around. he threw one employee to the floor and that is when several others would join in to fight him back. they were able to get him outside where police, they arrested him a few minutes later. >> italian police just captured a mafia boss hiding in his kitchen behind the cup boards.

toilet paper, and a portable fence. a dramatic rescue in singapore, an animal rescue officer saving a kitten from a 12-story ledge. the cat jumped out of the open window trying to catch a bird. i guess they do have nine lives. >> they call that high-rise. >> i'm sure that it happens often. >> yeah, he is right up there. there you go. >> all right. let's talk about matthew because this storm particularly for this part of florida looks horrible. >> hey, it's not a part of the state that's seeing those the track that's expected to take it. it is usually south florida or the keys to the florida straits on the gulf side of florida. hopefully everyone is prepared out there tonight. we are not just hyping it out. this is a dangerous storm. take a look at the current stats. you can notice to the east we have another hurricane that is just east of matthew. they will keep each other at arm's length over the course of the next couple of days. matthew has 140 miles per hour

mill bars. what does that mean? the lower the pressure goes, the more the winds will respond creating the pressure gradient to the center and the atmosphere around it. when you get to that point that you'll talk about those strong winds and the stronger that they could come as we have these bands that will be moving in across florida tonight. but it is the inside one with the core and the strongest winds. it is a strong area like a mini tornado warning like we saw it in hurricane andrew and a top- line hurricane. the damage is so intense, in a very small zone. it is moving across with that eye wall just moving through. expect to see quite a bit of destruction on the island because of the storm as you probably won't see it until tomorrow. taking a look at the track, it will head right up towards the space coast looking like a possible rainfall near melbourne. it is going to parallel the georgia coastline as well as the south carolina coastline. by the time we head towards

but they may even try to return towards florida or the bahamas as a tropical storm a weaker system later next week. so far that is off just focusing on the short term at this point. here at home, you know, we have opinion talking about matthew with our weather that has been stellar with the 60s to the mid- 70s out there. high pressure in control. we're going to get an identical day tomorrow and we will have the twin hurricanes off the south. what we're looking at is this front to the west, bringing us a chance for a couple of rain showers next weekend. that's about it. tonight, clear skies and patchy fog where it will -- skies and a patchy fog allowing us to lose the heat of the day. going for the low in the 30s again. 41 in jaffrey. boston sitting at 50. now another big temperature swing day. look at highs for tomorrow afternoon a picture-perfect friday. this had weekend is not bad. we'll see some changes. mild day on sunday. we'll see increasing clouds. as this front approaches likely to see some showers as we head towards saturday evening and night. right now the timeline looks to be after sunset.

plans, i don't think that any rain will be in your area yet. the one real big question mark is how quickly the clouds will thin out on sunday. a lingering shower is moving towards cape cod and the islands that will get a grayer day on sunday. there's a look at your columbus day holiday. i'm told it's not too bad. saturday during the day stays dry. chance for those lingering clouds towards the cape on sunday and cooler. then a gorgeous crisp columbus day. 60 degrees with the higher elevations in the 50s. there too. so right now in oktoberfest it is going on. a slight chance for the shower late on saturday, but again most of the day is dry. sunday looks very nice as well. and the foliage is unreal. now we have talked about the foliage outlook how the drought could bring out the drier colors. if you are heading up towards the lakes region of the mountains the weather will be cooperative. i wouldn't wait because the drought will have those leaves fall off a little bit faster than usual. so here is your accuweather
