hillary clinton is bottom barreding florida's east coast right now with strong winds and powerful waves. here's a picture moments ago showing the power o expected to pound the atlantic seaboard from south florida to south carolina. >> here's what we've learned the eye of the deadly storm has stayed off shore and that may have spared some areas from the worst damage but this hurricane is still dangerous and potentially life-threatening. it is now a category iii with top as you say stained winds of

>> reporter: good morning the winds and rains kicked in about 10:00 last night. they've kept going all night long and we're going to have them all day long too. right now as you mentioned the hurricane is off shore but we're still feeling about 60-mile an hour winds where i'm standing. the good news of course is that thisri the catastrophic impact as was feared. people expected that maybe by now we wouldn't have power but of course obviously we do. there is a curfew in effect. it will go on until saturday mourn. bridges are closed about 3,800 people are in shelters. by and large people did heed the mandatory order to evacuate. i did run into some

going to ride out the storm in their homes. right now everything appears pretty good. people have their fingers crossed that the storm is going to stay off shore and spare the east coast of florida which is what everybody here wants. >> a little bit good news. the latest gayle take a peek the satellite. since states offshore. it is offshore. zoom in tight. this is cape canaveral right there. this is a little too close for comfort, okay? you could have a landfall within the next two, maybe three hours or so. because right now 40 miles to the east/southeast of cape canaveral and moving to the north/northwest at 14 and could

curving around maybe transition is into a cat two and around georgia and cat one around south carolina and big loop toward the bahamas. i got to point out this is the consensus cone not the only possibility. just know a couple of models reliable models keeping it pushing to the north/northeast we believe it will curve back down and the storm is a big deal with the storm surge. 7 to 11 foot st. lucy to the savannah, georgia area and from there to charleston four to six feet. rainfall the biggest rain in places like georgia and south carolina and maybe north carolina. these are projected numbers. just projected. but the 9.3 in savannah and 14.3 in fayetteville. because of the way the eye is situated and we are staying offshore the heaviest winds 120-mile-per-hour winds a little

just to the east as the eye is right there. so we're going to watch this closely. here at home our weather is quiet compared to that. we're in the 40s and 50s, 54 in boston, 38 in taunton, 40s on the cape and we're in for a pretty good warm up later on today too. a little bit of fog out there right now. patchy but locally dense. the fog just like yesterday will take a little bit of time to burn off and then the going to be out and shine ing shining beautiful 71 by lunchtime and into the mid-70s it will be about 70 at the coast for the ride home. don't forget the shades. our holiday weekend is look good too. >> let's get you out on the roadways. things are not bad out there on the roads this morning your tough east ride is

split. the good news is traffic which is usually at a dead stop this hour is still moving along coming in from the north and west you're doing okay. breaking overnight investigators confirm they've found part of the wing from missing malaysia airlines flight 370. the debris was found in the indian owes in may. flight 370 disappeared in march of 2014 with 239 people onboard. only a few other pieces of debris have been found. it's still unclear what happened to that flight. breaking overnight a crash, one person killed and a car went right off the road on 495 south crashed appeared burst into flames. police say the driver was trapped inside that vehicle. they're trying to figure out what caused that accident. and more breaking news from overnight 2 stabbings in boston within 10 minutes. one man was taken to the hospital with

being stabbed in roxbury. police were searching the area and talking to potential witnesses there. about 10 minutes earlier police respond today a stabbing in china town. ems says a man was stabbed on beach street and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. a deadly shooting in roxbury in front of a school bus with kids onboard. >> this morning the gunman is still on the loose. we're live in >> reporter: 3 young elementary school students were onboard that bus when a man was shot to death in the street. boston school officials are bringing in crisis counselors for those students today. in the meantime boston police are pleading go the public to help them find the suspect. crime tape crisscrosses in front of a school bus as police investigate a deadly shooting. boston school officials say 3 young students were onboard when

were crying. you had to get them off the bus. >> reporter: police say a fight broke out between self people around 5:30 thursday. a man believed to be in his 20s was shot in the head. he was pronounced dead. police are asking for help finding the killer. >> one shooter who fled and, you know, we need the public to step up. we're go to be looking at all the cameras in we'll be looking for witnesses. i think when you're doing it out here on a busy street with a lot of young children riding home, i hope for the sake of the young children they didn't see it. >> reporter: neighbors also distraught and in disbelief were at a loss for words. >> a lot of young kids around here. i don't know what to tell you, scary. >> reporter: the victim's name has not yet been released. again boston police are strongly

to give them a call. right now police are searching for a suspect in a violent home invasion, an elderly man killed, his wife injured. we're live in worcester where the woman is recovering in the hospital. >> reporter: that woman is still recovering we understand this morning. from what investigators are now calling a violent crime. >> one cop me a couple of questions was real nice to me and all he said was ma'am all i can tell you is something bad, some horrible happened. >> reporter: investigators worked into the dark thursday night emerging from this east river street home with bags of evidence. this was the scene throughout the day in orange an investigation into a crime. >> and i saw 2 ladies out in the yard, one was on the phone and

murdered wednesday evening and his wife suffered serious injuries. the crime discovered thursday morning. schools were placed on lock down based on guidance for police as the search began for suspects. >> they were a very nice couple. >> reporter: a neighbor says she heard nothing around the time of the crime. she described the couple as friendly and outgoing. the husband she says, still went to work in his 90s. >> we got along really good. it saddens me to think that something happened to them. >> reporter: at this point neither victim has been identified by police as this investigation now moves into day 2. as soon as we learn more information we'll certainly pass it along. campaign 2016 now, a new poll shows a tight race in new hampshire, the poll has hillary

so we just had a gust of 102 miles per hour at the tower. just saw that on the national weather service chat. so an impressive storm here. obviously the east coast of florida getting lashed with the rain and wind. still 120-mile per hour winds. the storm will continue to parallel the coast by overnight tonight weaken to a category ii off the before taking that curve to the southeast and southwest. days loop here. it will be a tropical storm at that point but it looks like florida may have to contend with matthew again heading through the middle part of next week. for us a little bit of fog. quarter mile visibility. but 3 quarters of a mile in taunton. just like yesterday bit of a patchy fog type of morning but the to is

massachusetts and across the country. doctors say platelets are like the body's natural bandages and used for patients about leukemia. health officials are investigating a case of tuberculosis at medford high school. people are only at risk if they've had close or extended contact with the person who's sick. officials are trying to figure out who may have been exposed. andes expected to reopen today after an outbreak of mrsa there. crews cleaned the school yesterday. 4 students contracted that super bug. and there are some new cases of mrsa to tell you about, 2 students at the stanley school and swampscott high school have contracted the staph bacteria. a local father is facing

eye is where you typically get the strongest wind. you can see the band coming in off the ocean. the national weather service has issued an extreme wind warning for a very small area but from merit island back down until 7:15 this morning another 45 minutes for destructive gusts to 115 miles per hour. and in that warning they said expect tornado like damage because strong in a very isolated area. still a category iii hurricane, it's going to parallel the immediate coastline of florida through the remainder of the day today and gradually weaken. we'll keep you posted on that. for us at home quiet start to this friday morning 54 in boston, 39 in taunton, 40s on the cape, cool start touch of fog. the fog burns off just like yesterday by mid to late morning and the sun is going to

look at the damage. >> reporter: overnight the outer bands of hurricane matthew began pummelling the florida coast with unrelentinging rain, the storm surge sent boats in this harbor rocking side to side. shutters were ripped off the front of businesses. in daytona beach police were left patrolling empty streets as most residents listened warnings. >> we can rebuild homes, businesses, we can't rebuild a life. this storm is a monster. >> some people living on the coast sought safety in red cross shelters, this one inside a school cafeteria. >> they were in vulnerable places. >> reporter: conditions here in orlando will intensify over the

matthew is expected to slam florida all day. in south carolina this beach bar stayed open for one last party. >> we're closed after tonight. >> reporter: matthew is expected to move out to sea this weekend. . >> and more than 200,000 people in florida are already without power. daylight will reveal the extent of the damage today. the eye over freeport last night. a roof was ripped off of a home, boats smashed onto shore and trees knocked down. video shows significant damage to hotels. meanwhile in haiti the death toll has jumped at least 283 people are now confirmed dead and sadly that number is expected to rise. video yesterday showed entire neighborhoods wiped out thousands of homes are damaged or destroyed and several towns

injured. we're live in worcester where she is being treated. >> reporter: and investigators are describing this as a violent crime. they currently was a home insulation that again left an elderly man dead, and his wife badly injured. we're standing by to check on her status. we can tell you this incident happened on wednesday night. the crime scene only discovered yesterday though off east river street. schools were placed on search for a suspect or suspects possibly got underway. neighbors were telling us that the couple was friendly and outgoing. >> they were a very nice couple. i mean they got along really good, everybody liked them. it saddens me to think that something happened to them. >> reporter: now, neither victim has been identified as of this morning. we could tell you the woman is still recovering though this morning as far as we

. we have an update it morning the gloucester police chief will now be allowed to retire instead of being fired. gloucester's mayor anounsed monday that the chief would be fired for misleading investigators. she's reversing that decision. he's accused of inappropriate conduct with 2 women. he will remain on paid leave until he retires. addiction program that he started will continue. the mbta has agreed to a private contractor to take over its cash collection operation and the so-called money room. that move leading to protest. several union members were arrested yesterday afternoon. they blocked the facility and chain and padlocked the gate. police had to come in and cut the locks off. they all pleaded not guilty and were released. the chief says using a private

at least $8 million a year and another million that would have been used to upgrade the money room. >> we believe that by getting out of the cash management business we'll be able to better focus on our core delivery service and save the team a lot of money. >> security lapses were recently exposed. just last week a focus was released showing someone sleeping on the floor in that room with stacks of cash on the table. in massachusetts on october 28th and more than half the trips will be going down in cost. that's some good news. according to dot they just approved the new rates all cars with an ez pass will automatically receive a discount. the state made the change after complaints at a series of public hearings. the attorney general is looking into possible criminal activity at roxbury community college according to the globe which says the investigation

coastline. matthew is still a powerful category iii hurricane moving at 14-mile per hour and will continue to parallel the coastline here right along the eastern edge of florida through the day today weaken to a category ii overnight tonight southnd east of the coast of georgia, and weaken tomorrow afternoon into a category 1 still bringing lashing rain and wind to the coastline there and gradually weak ton a tropical storm before cng southern florida may have to deal with additional rainfall the middle part of next week. 54 in boston right now, 39 in taunton, 40s for a lot of us, a little bit of fog. and that fog will burn off by mid to late morning for most of us. high pressure in control. next chance of any showers doesn't come in until later on tomorrow. sunny and

year. tomorrow we'll still manage low 70s too although any sunshine will be limited enjoy it while it lasts because the clouds thicken up quickly tomorrow and a chance of an evening shower. by sunday low 60s so we do cool down. the clouds may linger a little bit on sunday particularly in the morning to afternoon and a lingering shower on the south columbus day may be the pick, cool air in place plenty of sunshine and highs in the upper 50s to low 60s which also means a great weekend to do leaf peaking. i don't know but but you've seen moderate colors slashed around but some great fall color to enjoy.
