ashamed, and very sorry. julie loncich, wbz news. also breaking, hurricane matthew still bettering florida and georgia. the devastating images just in, and the big concern tonight which is flooding. >> oh, my gosh, guys, we should back away. >> reporter: people who did not evacuate are seeing the force of hurricane matthew in the storm surge. take a look at the fast-moving water rushing past home. >> more than 1 million people are without power in florida. there are thousands of national guard members standing by ready of waves with the eye of the storm staying offshore, matthew is moving north. >> 7 million people are in a hurricane warning from florida to south carolina. five people confirmed dead in florida. don champion has the latest from daytona beach. >> reporter: good evening. the damaged building behind me is a glimpse of the destruction

you can barely drive a block in the region without even noticing more damage. just to the north of here, matthew is still wreaking havoc. hurricane matthew is lashing the southeast, bringing heavy rain, vicious winds, and severe flooding to florida. as it makes its way northward, more than 1 million people in central florida and along the atlantic coast are without power as hurricane matthew's fears winds bring down trees and power lines. >> my buddy right in front of his house, the powerline fell right in front he can't come out right now. >> reporter: in saint augustine, a turbulent river of floodwater trapped 20 people including children inside a bed and breakfast. this is a view from inside the b&b as frightening guests watched the water rushing outside. in ormond beach, a pane of glass kept the floodwater out, while these inside wondered how long it would hold. florida's governor says some gas stations here have shortages but are being

the state will last at least five days if no port is open. >> reporter: in titusville, tenants were forced out of this apartment building damaged by the hurricane. in charleston, south carolina, conditions there are predicted to worsen as the night goes on and matthew moves up the east coast. >> the best thing now is just to hunker down. stay in a safe place, don't try to move around. >> reporter: in savannah, georgia, police shut down river street because of flooding brought on by the most powerful hurricane to strike the country in more than a decade. tonight, power outages continue to be a problem, at last check, more than 1.1 million people were in the dark tonight. the good news is that as weather conditions have improved in certain areas, we have seen crews are trying to tackle some outages. in daytona beach florida, i'm

>> crews are coming from all over. right now, the storm is barreling into georgia and south carolina could take a direct hit. >> we want to get to pamela gardner with the latest advisory. that came in a few minutes ago. what does it show? >> reporter: this is still a category two powerful storm continuing its track to the north right along the coast, just off the coast of savannah. some latest updates project record flooding in savannah. this will continue to track toward charleston, south carolina as well and eventually north carolina coast, too. maximum winds, 105 miles per hour moving north at 12. along with it we do expect that storm surge and the eye while potentially hating landfall as we get into saturday morning. your hour by hour shows 10 a.m. saturday, the potential for that eye to come on shore. right over charleston, south carolina. then progressing and weakening as it does but still continuing along the north carolina coast. this does have a history of some wobbling. when it was through the bahamas

and then as it was right along the florida coast, we had a wobble to the east again which meant conditions were not quite as bad but still pretty bad. the thing is, where that eye lands all depends on that wobble. storm surge regardless of where it lands will be bad, 4 to 9 feet storm surge from charleston to myrtle beach. and coming up in your weekend forecast for us, mainly dry but there is a chance for rain and maybe matthew could have an impact on how much rain we could see. i'll have that in just a bit. david? >> thank you. the death toll from hurricane matthew in haiti has risen to more than 800 people. haiti had only just begun rebuilding from the devastating earthquake there 6 years ago, food, water, medical supplies, communications all in limited supply. next weekend, the boston archdiocese will have special collections at its masses to benefit the people of haiti. and we will track hurricane

the latest on the storm's path. breaking news out of new hampshire, police investigating the death of a 1-year-old. police say they don't know at this point how the child died, but they have arrested the baby's stepfather. 30-year-old leo witham is facing child endangerment charges tonight. developing tonight, the manhunt for a killer in the small town of orange. police are searching for a person driving a car like this who may be linked to a gruesome murder. a 95-year-old man murdered in his home, and his wife who was badly injured. louisa moller is live in orange with the latest. >> reporter: the family of the elderly couple who was attacked is still coming to grips with what happened. and one family member called the suspect or suspects cowards. larry fisher brought flowers from a friend to the orange home where police say his mother, 77-year-old joanna

we have done all those reports of the creepy clowns across the country. that almost scared some local clowns away from their own event. >> but then they thought about the kids who would miss them and a halloween haunted house without violence. katie brace is live happened. >> reporter: this haunted house received phone calls about if they have clowns. and with all of the recent concerns, they considered canceling the clowns, but as you can see, they are creeping around to the excited delight of visitors. honor and creator of barrett's haunted mansion, mary barrett costello had to scare herself

>> and was getting to be hysteria. >> reporter: with the craze of clown sightings across the country, mary thought clowns were out. >> right away i said, oh, my gosh, we are going to have to take the clowns out. >> reporter: they had to decide if the increasing fear was too much. 25 years in business, the clowns are integral to the haunted mansion. >> they are there to scare you. the clowns that are showing up outside of people's yards, they are terrorizing people. there is a huge difference. >> reporter: these halls for the past 4 years. >> it is putting a bad name on us and we are trying to come out here and have fun with the crowd. >> reporter: the entertainers do not clown around when it comes to their job. hours are spent in the makeup trailer prepping. they stress they are professional, very different than those clowns throwing on a mask in public. here, the clowns don't wear masks, carry weapons, or scare people. but, it's a scare that visitors

and, barrett's does have security, it is a very closed area. these guys are a tightknit group. they will know if someone else is trying to impersonate a crown. bring live in abington, katie brace, wbz news. >> that was unforgettable, thank you. tracking hurricane matthew. video from jacksonville beach, you can see the storm surge very powerful, water coming in and right and some of the neighborhoods there. >> it seems to be at the end of the storm in will end up being about the flooding and water, more so than the wind. >> oh, yes, it is that storm surge we have been talking about for the last several days. it could be 4 to 9 feet, yet to come, along the georgia, south carolina, and north carolina coast. right now we have two storms we are tracking, hurricane matthew, but there is tropical storm nicole. this could help steer where matthew is going to go in the

interesting there. current radar, i want to show you where matthew is located. of the eyewall right here and center of the storm off the coast but savannah, georgia getting inundated with that storm surge already. this will continue in a northerly path, and perhaps just move right offshore. overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. but some of the forecast models have in making landfall briefly in charleston, south carolina saturday morning before moving on and continuing to weaken as we get into saturday night and then moving off e north carolina, 7 a.m. on sunday. as perhaps a tropical storm. so, the latest update from the national hurricane center has hurricane matthew as a category two with 105 mile per hour maximum winds, moving north at 12 miles an hour. hurricane warnings are posted from brunswick to charleston and we have a watch box issued. a tornado watch. that is another threat we have to deal with as these hurricanes move close to shore. at the rainfall, just devastating rainfall, since the

season already. they have had lots of rain. the ground is saturated even inland. locations there could see some flash flooding concerns as well as high water levels with the rivers, lakes, streams. this freshwater on top of the saltwater will inundate with that storm surge along the coast. could see up to 15 inches in isolated spots and additional rainfall. the forecast tracks, category one saturday morning into saturday night. moving right offshore, then asked to make the turn to the south and do a little loop weakening, and maybe after that, comes back toward the florida coast but there's a lot of uncertainty with that. we will keep you up to date as we continue to track the storm. for us in england, picture- perfect. the weather thank goodness has been wonderful and calm. foliage tracker, we continue to see the colors turning. peak conditions in northern new england and higher elevations. if you're heading to the lakes and mountains for the next few

ideal. saturday into sunday morning is the only time you will have to worry about rain. temperatures right now in the 50s, 60 degrees in some spots, overnight, 50 degrees with 40s in the suburbs. tomorrow, high of 72 degrees with a chance of an evening shower at the cold front approaches. here's 11 p.m. notice we get a surgeon moisture for sunday morning. that is because of hurricane matthew. and, we could see maybe some decent rainfall totals, that is still a couple of days away. we will keep you up-to-date all weekend long. columbus day monday, 60 degrees and sunny. another shot at 70 degrees by the end of the forecast. they are not happy but are coming home. red sox have quite the whole, down two games to the indians. >> we are going to hear from the red sox who say they may be done but do not count them out

so you think matthew is actually going to be a factor all weekend? >> yes. for the next couple of days it is going to move slowly along the coast and some forecast models may have it making landfall over charleston tomorrow. the big question is, how long and far is this going to wobble? could it go more east or west? the difference of 20 miles makes a huge difference in the storm surge, wind, and how much rain. we will keep a close eye on this all weekend long. for us, the weather is okay. for those holiday weekend, considering, to the south,
