morning in an armed home invasion. we're live in lowell with details on this story. >> reporter: this all happened in the early morning hours monday around 1:30. police say 3 men tried to force their way inside a home in lowell and they say these men were relentless because even as the residents inside were holding the door shut we're told the suspects still tried to force their way inside. with you one of them breaking a glass side of the door. and when they heard police arriving at the scene we're told they all ran off and police were then searching for them. a k-9 did catch up with one of the suspects in a wooded area hiding there. they found this loaded tech 9 handgun, a crowbar as well as a sweat shirt and some other items they believe those suspects left behind. police did catch up with a 21-year old man who is expected to be

at large this morning. . boston police arrest a man wanted for making threats at the airport and assaulting a police officer. they say he's also responsible for causing several scares across boston yesterday including leaving a suspicious device outside a building near the state house. that turned out to be a copy of the quran. police say the 22-year old also caused a he'll be arraigned as a fugitive from justice before returning to washington d.c. a man who drove the wrong way on the mass pike for miles could face charges. police say the # 0-year old man drove about 3 miles heading west in the eastbound lanes yesterday. 3 drivers crashed as they swerved to avoid them. he eventually

a man charged with assaulting students with special needs is due in court today. scott is accused of hitting and shoving the 3 young men at their home. scott was an employee at the judge rotenberg center was fired after the incident in august. he failed to show up in court friday and was arrested in rhode island on saturday. scott is expected in court there today. a man and woman accused in a deadly home invasion will not massachusetts until tomorrow. 27-year old smith and her apparent boyfriend hart are charged with murder and attempted murder. they were caught in the parking lot of a virginia wal-mart over the weekend. police say they are the home invaders who stabbed 95-year old tom hardy to death in his home on wednesday and critically wounded his 77-year old wife. the family is hoping for swift justice.

good looking weekend rebounding to the upper 60s by monday. commute is picking up north of the city. you're going to want to watch out for a disabled car on route 3 south blocking the should right on 128 there and exit 25. you can see a couple pockets of heavy traffic happening on 93 south. and then you're going to be slow and go again. let's take a live look at the expressway, you are crawling right along from the split right up to this point at columbia road, about a 20-minute delay and it breaks off right after this point. if you take the bus to work or school you know that getting onboard can be hectic sometimes. in one boston neighborhood there is close to 100 people waiting at one stop. this is the stop at broadway in south boston. he have one is waiting for the number 7 bus that goes to south station. we went to the stop ourselves and counted more than

. >> reporter: a lot of questions surrounding this situation, but we know it happened in the early morning hours monday around 1:30 police say 3 men tried to force their way inside a home. and they say these men were relentless because as the residents inside were holding the are door shut we're told the suspects broke one of the glass panels on the side of the door still trying to get in and when they heard police responding to the scene we're told all 3 one of them hiding in the woods but a k-9 found that suspect, a 21-year old man and also found a loaded tech 9 handgun as well as a crowbar and a sweat shirt. some other items police believe the suspects left behind as well. that 21-year old suspect is expected to be arraigned here in lowell at some point today.

. $120 million in emergency funding could be headed for haiti after being hit hard by hurricane matthew. the un had made an appeal for emergency funding in relief aid after they say 750,000 people in southwest haiti alone will need lifesaving assistance and protection over the next 3 months. the storm killed more than 500 people into haiti. and here in the united states 26 deaths are being blamed on hurricane matthew 1 isn't over yet in that state. a mandatory evacuation was ordered yesterday as officials warned dangerous flooding could continue into next week. spirit airlines now apologizing and giving a refund to a woman who flew to massachusetts to get out of the way of hurricane matthew. she flew home last week and was slated to return to south carolina yesterday morning, but

originally the airline said she couldn't change her flight without a fee but they've since changed course and refunded her. both candidates will be in florida today. florida residents will have an extra day to register to vote, a federal judge extended today's voter registration deadline until 5 p.m. tomorrow. the florida democratic party asked for the extension saying the evacuations some from registering. florida's governor rick scott opposed the extension saying people have had enough time. and a strike averted in the nation's third largest school district. teachers will report to work in chicago this morning after both sides reach a tentative contract agreement. students are returning to a vermont high school this morning since the death of 4 classmates and another member of the community in a wrong-way crash.

to remember the 5 high school juniors. a memorial space has been setup inside the school. police say they were killed on saturday when a speeding driver going the wrong way on 89 hit their car and burst into flames. that driver is in the hospital and is expected to be charged later this week. 20 people are staying somewhere else this morning after this huge fire tore through an apartment building. that fire caused a million dollars in damage at the canal conditions made it hard tore get a handle on the flames there. a home and 10 vehicles on fire saturday morning. police are asking for your help now figuring out how it all started. this is cell phone video of one of the fires. crews answered multiple calls on multiple roads in the area. a new hampshire wedding delayed after the groom's mother went missing. the 72-year odd
