this morning once again tonight, the community will come together, this time in east boston, at that gladstone street location, where this crime took place, the deadly shootout place. you are asked to wear blue and to bring a white candles as the community called a walk and vigil in support of these officers. that is the very latest from boston, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. we are learning information about the suspect and what may have set off the argument that first brought police to the scene. wbz anna meiler is a light -- is live in east boston with the latest. >> reporter: part of this street is -- is blocked off with crime tape and police are processing the scene hoping to learn about the man who critically wounded two officers with an unlicensed assault what -- assault rifle. it was rapid, not just like one at a time. it was probably. >> reporter: a ferocious firestorm breaks out on the street in boston police officers richard cintolo and matt morris respond to a dispute between roommates on wednesday and i. the commissioner says that 33-year- old kirk figueroa shielded with a ballistic vest opened fire. >> he quickly displayed a rifle, and without provocation, basically opened fire on error two officers. >> reporter: other officers ran

that is security company that he founded -- he called himself a bounty hunter and claims that he served as an army reserve police soldier but according to the army times he only served five months before receiving a hardship discharge. in 2010 he face felony for setting his own car on fire to collect insurance money. last year his ex-wife asked for a restraining order, writing that he gave me black eyes, choked me, pulled out my here and verbally humiliated me and abuse me on several different occasions but despite his criminal history, figueroa was a sworn in as a constable and in july -- >> i know that locally he had no criminal record. i think that there were several felony -- from what understand. not in the state, but impersonating a police officer and i think that there was also one charge for -- nothing here. nothing that would ban us from issuing him a constable license.

does it is chilly after yesterday, 72. lower 50s in the outer cape but most spots are in the 40s. we will be covered to 72 -- 58 -- about 4 degrees below the average for this date of october 14. the low temperatures tonight, 41 logan airport and along the immediate coast, unlikely that there will be frost in most of the coastal locations but you get inland a bit and that is where drops off dramatically into the upper 20s, lower 30s, where the freeze warning is up for many of the suburban locations but along the coast, the frost is not going to happen near the coastal spots. it looks like tomorrow's highs will be higher than today, 58 at the coast but you can note the wind particles, light air coming in from the ocean to keep the coastal communities cooler but a nice recovery

and southwest of boston. the weekend forecast, traffic and weather to gather. good morning. we can breathe again. all of the accidents that we told you about have cleared. the car in the woods off of 128 and braintree, the multi-car crash, and the ramp to route 3 on the connector has reopened so we are checking in on the expressway and it is stop and go like this all the way from 120 and braintree from the car into the what, right up to columbia road in dorchester, about 20 minutes delay. shoot out in east boston that critically injured a two boston police officers. >> the officers are stable but critical this morning and we are learning about what may have set off the suspect we have live team coverage and anna meiler is in east boston with the investigation but we begin with nicole jacobs, live at the general, where the officers are being treated. -- >> reporter:. they are in the stable but critical condition after both are undergoing surgery. i can tell you that the commissioner said that he spoke with both of the officers from their hospital beds and they understand just how dire their situations where. we will have a look at the photographs and these are the veteran officers, richardson cholo and matthew morris. they responded to a domestic call on wednesday night.

the commissioner says that they used a tourniquet to slow the bleeding. doctors say that is what saved officer matt moore his life after he was shot in a main artery -- artery in his leg. officers carry the tourniquets after the marathon bombing. retired transit officer dick donahue says that is an important change. >> from what i hear, up to this point, it looks like some of the things that -- the changes, the training, the tools that went into effect after the marathon, after my shooting -- hopefully it helps to save the officers lives. last year the boston police department started adding tourniquets to their vehicles and some of the officers who used them a wednesday night had just been trained on them last week. boston police and the mayor walsh in the meantime are urging the community to give blood. they say that the officers needed transfusions and if there's one thing that you can do to help, it is to donate blood. we are learning new information about the suspect and what may have said the argument off that first brought police to the scene.

flooding and damage in the aftermath of hurricane nicole. schools and government offices are closed today although the airport could reopen around noon nicole hit the island as a category 3 storm but it has gotten weaker considerably which is good news because it was barreling at the island as a category for mac earlier yesterday. not good good news is it is on its way out and the island looks to be okay. we will check in with barry burbank and at home, totally different story, no rain. >> talking about the cold. >> it got much colder than yesterday for sure. we had 72 but this morning it is only in the 40s but here's bermuda and there goes nicole, doesn't look very organized on the satellite imagery.
