jumped in to reach her. at one point, she goes underwater but comes back up. she was treated for mild hypothermia. the actions of those quick-thinking bystanders saved her life the babysitter accused of kidnapping and torturing a little girl has been found guilty. she broke into a home and kidnapped a little girl. the girl was found later with her head shaved and burned. the michelle carter case, evidence played in court today. >> she's accused of encouraging her high school boyfriend to commit suicide. more from the courtroom. >> michelle carter is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

was not the beginning of the trial. this was an effort by her defense attorneys to keep police evidence out of the trial. >> we are going to start with a motion to suppress. >> reporter: the attorneys for michelle carter wanted evidence to stay out of court but the proceedings went forward. in 2014, carter helped her boyfriend commit suicide carbon monoxide poisoning. police went after her phone. >> detectives from the police department obtained two search warrants. one for the phone of michelle carter. >> one text to a friend said his death is my fault. i was on the phone with him and he got out of the car because it was working and he got scared

today the tape of police talking to her was entered as evidence. >> you probably had a lot of contact with him. >> so again, it was all about defense motions to suppress evidence. it didn't work. all of the evidence including her phone will be entered into court in the coming weeks. >> new tonight, local police arrested a man nt robbing a local beauty salon. officers were able to identify the man thanks to tips from the public. right now, he's charged with just one robbery in which he held a knife to worker's throat. police are investigating which was customers were threatened. the two boston police officers shot in east boston were top of mind as the campaign

an oregon tornado caught on camera. take a look, you can see a bit of light coming out from underneath the tornado. the storm struck a small beach town thousands of people now without power. a decade's old find hidden in the sand. hurricane matthew helped unbury this car which was buried since 1964. that's when hurricane dora struck the area. now another hurricane uncovered is.

looking at mainly 20s. it's a hard freeze it's not just a light frost. boston getting to 38. that's the coldest of the season and mid-30s toward cape cod, you can still see frost. taking a look at the weekend, once we get past the cold night, it's all about sunshine, warming temperatures 62 for a high. we get a southwest breeze. a br warmer temperatures and that gets us to around 72 in the afternoon. it's a great fall weekend. a lot of events going on. looks like low 60s tomorrow. not much wind, a lot of sun. on sunday, low 70s, a mix of sun and clouds, it will be breezy but a pleasant day. highs tomorrow are similar to this afternoon but with less wind and maybe a degree or two warmer in most locationings.

exit documents but reunited all of these years later. the news at 6:00 starts now. we begin with breaking news, this is an amazing rescue. a bystander jumps into the water to save a driver just minutes before her suv disappears into a local pond. the video of the rescue is amazing. >> i'm paula, the two bystanders saved the woman's life >> reporter: this is an unbelievable story. a woman trapped in her suv in deep water here at the pond and the suv eventually sank to the bottom like a stone but by then, fortunately, bystanders had taken matters into their own hands.
