we'll start with a developing story this morning, police are investigating a reported shooting. a man was shot just after 9 last night. he was taken by med flight to a boston hospital. a level 3 sex offender who caused a stir by moving into a weymouth neighborhood is due in court today. >> and police in rhode island now saying he violated his terms of probation there. we're live in south boston with more. >> reporter: and police say gardner violated his by going to a library, a place that is off limits for registered sex offenders. recently released level 3 sex offender gardner is back in police custody. the 49-year old is convicted of raping and kidnaping several boys in massachusetts and rhode island in the 1980s. he was originally sentenced to 190 years in prison with but appealed and was given a lighter sentence. gardner was released earlier this month after just about 30 years behind bars.

prior to him coming and that's a huge issue. >> reporter: he initially registered at his parents's home. neighbors were fearful and furious. >> yes, everybody is upset about it. i would be too. you've got 3 little boys over ta couple kids there, 2 little girls next to me. >> i'm picking up kids at bus stops. >> reporter: now, he's in trouble with the law again. police arrested him in boston. he was taken into custody on a fugitive from justice warrantou say he violated his probation there by showing up at this library. gardner is due in court later this morning and is facing possible extradition to rhode island. . fire causing nearly a million dollars in damage at a brownstone in the back bay. the flames started early sunday night. it houses a restaurant,

girl was hit as she sat in her car seat. >> clearly they were going after this young girl's father, and he clearly is not talking to the police about it. >> reporter: the father was standing outside of the vehicle when investigators say a bearded man riding a gray and black motor scooter fired shots piercing that little girl's hand and leg. >> the baby appears to be fine pip went down and visited with the baby down in the hospital. obviously she's crying but she's alert. >> reporter: but frustration continues to build as the ec man police say was the intended target remains quiet. >> i can't fathom that that he's not willing to help us with this investigation to find out who might have shot at him, who shot his daughter, 2-year old baby that was in the car seat. >> reporter: he's a known gang member police say but even residents in the area are calling for someone to come forward. >> how you can sit back and not

has been a trooper through all of this according to her grandmother who spoke with the boston globe. that grandmother is also having a plea of her own for someone to come forward with some information. boston police would like that as well. anyone who knows anything to come forward. . new overnight a major new offensive underway in iraq troops are working right now to push isis out of the country's forces are providing air and ground support while about 30,000 troops are involved in the fight to retake the city. the operation will be the most complex since u.s. forces left 5 years ago. isis is reportedly telling wounded fighters who leave and they're building tunnels to maneuver. former president bill clinton is heading to new hampshire. he'll be pushing his wife's economic plan and with 3 weeks until election day

full hunter's moon was full yesterday. great shot and just a couple clouds but you can see clear skies right over the moon right now and we're talking by the warmth the next few days. so sunshine is going to be out. obviously it's still dark out. sunrise 7 a.m. this morning. records will be possible over the next couple of days. i think we'll fall just shy in several communities but may hit showers likely thursday and friday. and we see a cooling trend for the upcoming weekend which will feel more normal for this time of year. so a little something for everybody in this 7-day forecast. 63 in boston right now, a warm start to the day. 48 in concord one of the cooler spots upper 50s in bedford. 63 in plymouth. had a couple sprinkles overnighs starting thin out and move south and east.

then the clouds will thicken back up up towards evening with a few more showers back to the west. most of the day will be dry. what's going on tonight is this warm front is going to lift through southern new england. it's a slow process though. so tomorrow morning is going to be a mainly cloudy start with the front over us and then the front lifts north and the sun breaks out. we push 80 plus tomorrow afternoon and it looks dry as well. wednesday a cold front so we still push 80 on wednesday and some of this rain as the front starts to stall out is going to come back into the mix thursday and potentially friday too. a lot of heat in the country. check it out 82 in d.c., 80 in chicago today, close to 90 in st. louis. 85 to 90 in a lot of spots in the central and eastern united states. so we get into a little piece of it

drivers can get more information this week about the new electronic tolling that's coming to the mass pike. the state is holding 2 more public meetings. they'll discuss the demolition, the time line, hours of construction and the nashua and traffic impact. the new system goes into effect october 28th those without an ez pass will be sent a bill in the mail. the meetings will be held tomorrow and in bn both of those meetings begin at 6:30. right now the mbta forgives more than $800,000 in fines against the company that runs the commuter rail. keolis says it's already paid more than 6 and a half million dollars because of late and cancelled trains in 2015. keolis says

cape cod canal have been deemed safe after this, a cruise ship clipping the bay railroad bridge last week. the cape cod times report the u.s. army corps of engineers inspected all 3 bridge to say make sure nothing was damaged. they say the incident could have been avoided if the cruise ship had just folded down a pole on the ship. the state is trying to figure out what's making health care so sitting down to discuss that issue. speakers will include the governor and the attorney general. total spending on health care rose by more than 4% last year. and the state is trying to curb the prescription abuse problem by making it easier for people to discard their unwanted or out of date prescription pills. this saturday franklin worcester and hampshire counties

girl's grandmother, the mayor and the police commissioner all pleaing to public for someone to come forward they're hoping that little girl's father will start being cooperative and perhaps the gunman will come forward. . a stand off causing a scare in one neighborhood. police were called to a house for a report of shots fired early yesterday morning. when they got there they say a man was around and barricaded in his home with several other neighbors were told to stay inside of their homes during the stand off. police are still investigating. tragedy at the university of connecticut, a 19-year old student hit and killed by a vehicle from the campus fire department. she was sitting against the bay doors of the public safety complex when the fire department got a call and the emergency door opened. the student fell backwards and the vehicle ran over here. campus police are investigating.

boston are both recovering from several surgeries and are still list in critical but stable condition this morning. the officers were shot last week while responding to a domestic disturbance call. investigators say the suspect kirk figueroa ambushed them. he was killed by police. meanwhile the support from the city continues to pour in the prudential tower was lit up in blue last night in of the police department and the injured officers. whitey bulger says he won't help a man who may have put in jail for a crime he did not commit. a friend wrote to bulger asking him to tell police what he knew by the murder. bulger says he will not do it. whitechall is fighting for a new

both will face off in their final debate this week. you can watch it on wednesday night starting at 9 p.m. right here. vice president joe biden will be in boston this week talking about the white house's push to find a cure for cancer. it's called the cancer moon shoot initiative. he'll speak on wednesday. president obama announced this initiative in january. biden whose son died last year from cancer serves as chair. outrage growing in north is killed in a bow and arrow hunt. pedals became an internet sensation 2 years ago when it was caught on camera walking on 2 legs. some are making death threats against the hunter. it was the first legal bow and arrow hunt in decades. there are new rules in place to help curbs the states opioid abuse problem. health care

wednesday a cold front comes in doesn't really cool us down all that much. we will be up around 80 ahead of the front and showers likely to come back in as we head into thursday and cool us down somewhat. so highs today enjoy it low 70s, a little sea breeze just beautiful, low to mid-70s inland chance of an evening sprinkle not out of the question. 70 on the cape and mid to upper 70s inland. the record to b boston is 82 now set back in 1947 forecasting a high of 83. going to be a close call if we can do it 80 on wednesday. i think we'll fall shy of the record of 84 degrees. thursday we do turn cooler we'll be in the mid-60s. more normal temperatures for this time of the year for the upcoming weekend 60 with morning clouds on saturday parting for sun a brighter day upper 50s on sunday. looks busy behind you.
