company as soon as they arrived this morning because they smelled something. there were two consecutive explosions so thunderous that it sounded as if a plane had crashed into the building. the salon owner is glad that all are safe. >> the building is demolished and i'm happy that our team and everyone is safe. >> we came in at 9:00 a.m. and smelled something funny and called the gas company and they said get out of the building. we were outside just not that far away from the building and we heard and saw huge booms and the building exploded and glass was shattered and instantly in flames and we watched it all happen. it was pretty scary. >> i opened the window and saw people running across the street. and they're saying it's a gas explosion but the atf just came in. >> late word today, none of the

as we get it in. more breaking news. two new hampshire men will face charges in this explosion of a newspaper box in salem. back in august, they blew up the box which belongs to the rainbow times, an lgbt newspaper. the community quickly rallied after the blast and replaced the newspaper box. >> the family of a math teacher murdered at is suing the town and the school. they don't want money. intercept things to change. one of her students murdered her in the building nearly three years ago. and despite a brand new security system at that school, her family says she wasn't protected. christina hager is live at danvers high school tonight. christina. >> reporter: this lawsuit does not have a dollar amount. but it seeks compensation to

programs and to contribute to charities. the family is not looking for any personal financial gain just questions and answers. >> eight months after phillip chisholm was sentenced to at least 40 years in prison, the family of the danvers high teacher he murdered at school says there should have been more protection. the school system, the architect, and the janitorial company. as we saw during the the school was updated with hundreds of security cameras. no one was monitoring the activity on the computer located in the front office. despite the fact that the video depicts chisholm roaming the school grounds freely and unsupervised and behaving suspiciously for over an hour. no one stopped and questioned him. the layout of the school left him alone in a wing with no one to help and a janitor cleaned

apparent miscommunication arising from a language barrier. she heard about it as she came to pick up her granddaughter. >> there's a lot of after school activity. somebody has to be accountable for who is coming in and who is going out. >> i have a daughter here who is a junior. and i think they've dealt with it the best they could. and as far as security that there have been no problems. >> reporter: the danvers town manager sent us a statement saying colleen's death was a tragedy for the whole community and our hearts continue to go out to the ritzer family. we respect the legal process that the family is pursuing. the school superintendent and the school board also sent us statements saying they can't promise the pending lawsuit but they are committed to continuing calling the legacy of kindness and dedication to

>> new hampshire police are saying that loving this man proved to be very costly. officers say he met women on social media and then used their i.d.s to open credit card accounts. there are a dozen victims and the guy got away with hundreds of thousands of dollars. beth germano has the story. >> reporter: he was a realman according to one victim. but michael shields faced credit card fraud, larceny, and intimidating witnesses not to cooperate. >> not guilty. >> that from michael shields, accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars using financial schemes and defrauding a series of financial partners. >> the defendant would approach these women after brief relationships and ask to open credit cards together or to add

cards in the names of five women and his schemes went even further. a military officer says he was duped out of $12,000 life savings. shields convinced him to invest in a company. the company had been sold two years prior. and he never saw a dime. >> when the time came to get paid i asked him where the money was. oh, , they're working on it. >> reporter: he trusted shields because he was a high school friend of his wife. >> he talked a good game. and even so i was still skeptical. >> reporter: in all, he had 12 victims, including a childhood friend also in the military, using his name to open credit cards. >> i made the worst investment of my life. >> reporter: investigators have told him he may be able to

airlines for america, a trade organization, cautioned the rules could harm customers by reregulating how airlines sell their products, driving up the cost of air travel. the rules also require the airline to admit more mistakes like how often they fail to properly help customers who need wheelchairs. new hampshire college graduates have the highest student debt in the entire country. a new report found that the average grad owes $36,000. the state with the second highest debt is delaware. massachusetts was the 7th highest. and utah had the lowest. milford police are on the lookout for two stolen goats. a woman in town raised these animals from the time they were born. officers posted a message on facebook saying that neighbors had corralled the animals on chestnut street after they got

start to thicken. and that's where the chance of rain showers arrives. we'll reach the low 60s to middle 60s inland. all told a pretty nice day. and the first half of the day tomorrow. clear skies overnight and clouds starting to encroach on the area by tomorrow afternoon. and a chance for a few showers tomorrow afternoon. for friday a around and it will get more humid outside and a chance for a couple of scattered showers and again not expecting a lot of significant rain on friday. it's going to be more hit or miss with a few showers here or there. the best overall chance for a steadier rain will be friday night and early on saturday morning. the area of storminess is going to drag in what might be tropical storm otto. we have a shot at seeing an

live from the channel 4 studios in boston, this is wbz news at 5:30. >> and we start with breaking news at 5:30. and great news to report. boston police announcing that one of two police officers who was shot last week in east boston has now been released officer richardson tolo was shot in the neck and shoulder. minutes ago, the police department tweeted that he's out of the hospital. he's happy to be home. the other officer is still hospitalized and the still in stable condition. >> that's good news. and now at 5:30. a 14-year-old boy riding his bike in brockton hit and killed. the driver was another teenager. tonight investigators are

>> the victim's family is in a state of shock as you might imagine. bill shields is live in brockton with the story. >> reporter: you see behind me the growing memorial for the 14- year-old boy. that's the spot where he lost his life just 23 hours ago. and the driver -- the alleged 18-year-old driver -- no charges so far. >> his father seemed but after all he lost his 14- year-old son. >> everything i've heard about the young man was that he was a wonderful young man, excellent student, model citizen and a tremendous loss to us. >> yesterday evening in brockton, the 14-year-old was on his bike and hit and killed by a car. the 18-year-old driver stayed on the scene. >> i was here.
