>> the victim's family is in a state of shock as you might imagine. bill shields is live in brockton with the story. >> reporter: you see behind me the growing memorial for the 14- year-old boy. that's the spot where he lost his life just 23 hours ago. and the driver -- the alleged 18-year-old driver -- no charges so far. >> his father seemed but after all he lost his 14- year-old son. >> everything i've heard about the young man was that he was a wonderful young man, excellent student, model citizen and a tremendous loss to us. >> yesterday evening in brockton, the 14-year-old was on his bike and hit and killed by a car. the 18-year-old driver stayed on the scene. >> i was here.

immediately and was fully cooperative with the authorities and did go to the hospital as a precaution. >> reporter: investigators tested the brakes on the suv as they tried to figure out what happened. today, a growing memorial to the 14-year-old on the spot where he died. his yeahing friends say he loved -- his grieving friends say he loved sports and computers. his family came and now they've lost a son. >> reporter: before any charges are filed against the 18-year- old driver, two crucial pieces of evidence. one is computer from the car which will likely tell officers how fast it was going. and the other is there may have been another vehicle that played a role in this, not directly but played a role.

class action lawsuit over the exploding galaxy note seven phones. three customers were told to stop using the phones and were asked to wait days or weeks for a replacement. and they claimed they had to play month -- pay monthly charges for phones they could not use. samsung is making it easier for some fliers to get rid of their phones befo plane. exchange booths have been popping up. and in south korea, they'll offer free rental services for travelers who have not received new phones yet. and an weymouth woman wants to know why a washing machine that could explode has not been recalled. customers say it's not good enough. >> i don't know why a recall has not been issued.

how about this? a volcano in mexico erupting twice in the same day. the blasts about two hours apart. you can see the plumes of ash and smoke pouring into the sky. the volcano in western mexico is one of the country's most active. a suspect l interstate and crashes into an apartment building. she hit three cars. and sitting in rush hour traffic is stressful enough. imagine if you saw this -- a snake on your car. that's what happened to a driver in florida. a six footlong snake slithered onto the hood and tried to get through the window.

habitat. david begnaud, behind the scenes at seaworld, orlando. >> and washburn is expected to give birth in just about four to six months. much more ahead. live from the channel 4 studios in boston, this is wbz news at 6:00. we begin tonight with breaking news at 6:00. boston police officer richard -- who was critically injured is now out of the announcement just a few minutes ago. >> he was one of the two officers badly injured in the shootout that left a gunman dead in east boston a week ago. >> the news just coming in to the newsroom. boston police confirmed that officer richard santolo was just discharged from mass general hospital. he had multiple surgeries after he was shot.

said the 49-year-old was out of the critical stage. the other officer who was shot -- this man -- officer matthew morris remains at mass general in stable condition. he was shot in the leg and the bullet struck a main artery. he lost a large amount of blood. he's a 12-year veteran of the force. the shooting happened during a call on gladstone street. officers responded to the home after a man called that his roommate, 33-year-old kirk figueroa -- was threatening him with a knife. the suspect was wearing body armor and allegedly started shooting with a shotgun. figueroa was later shot and killed by other officers. the investigation into the matter still continues and that's the latest. good news. paula evans, wbz news. more breaking news in salem. two men facing charges in the
