murder trial. now they are speaking through a lawsuit naming the town of danvers, the school system, the architect behind recent renovations, and the janitorial company. >> the suit alleges that no one was watching the security cameras. and a janitor cleaned up evidence. what procedures have changed so there's no breakdown? the layout of the school left ritzer alone. no one else appeared to be in the same academic wing. and one student agrees. >> there's some spots, certain engineering wing is a big one. it's more excluded. >> i have a daughter that's a junior.

beth germano is outside the court in boston with how much this man is accused of taking. this is incredible. >> reporter: prosecutors say hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy things like vacations, clothing, jewelry. and that's not the only scheme he was involved in. a victim says he's quite a salesman. prosecutors say michael shields is a convincing man using romantic relationships and getting their personal information. >> the defendant would approach the women and ask to open credit cards together or to add them to his credit cards. >> a dozen fraudulent credit cards he used to make $350,000 in purchases. he's accused of opening one in the name of a friend who is a military veteran. chad force knows something about the persuasiveness of michael shields.

in may life. >> reporter: he was a high school friend of his wife. he gave shields $12,000 in life savings. the return he got was zero -- the money gone. >> when the time came that we would get paid i asked him where the money was. and he said it hasn't sold yet. they're working on it. >> his involved a dozen people. and in hindsight he should have trusted his instincts. >> he talked a good game, talked himself up pretty good but even then i was still skeptical. >> and chad is trying to recover from the lost investment. and he may be able to recover some of the money. and michael shields is being

wbz news. the stage is set for a high stakes showdown in nevada. it's the final debate for donald trump and hillary clinton. >> obviously, a lot is on the line. danielle nottingham joins us from las vegas. and what can you tell us about the format of the third and final debate. >> this last debate will be 90 minutes and it will be split into six segments, 15 minutes each. and some of the the supreme court, the economy, foreign policy, and immigration. hillary clinton will have the first question in tonight's debate. and there will be no opening and closing statements. so they expect to get right to the question and right to the topics for the night. >> we haven't seen much of hillary clinton. what do the candidates need to accomplish tonight? >> hillary clinton has done

spent the days leading up to the debate for preparation. this time around, seems that donald trump is doing more preparation. the last couple of weeks he's hat to answer to allegations of sexual assault. and as of late he's been talking about the election being rigged. it would suit him best to stay on topics, focus on hillary clinton's weaknesses. and hillary clinton has to present herself is trustworthy. right now she's having a challenge about that and challenges about her authenticity. we'll see if she's been practicing comes across as someone who is the same in public as in private. >> and you can cut the tension with a knife after donald trump was talking about bill clinton.

an army reservist is struggling with medical bills. >> he had a heart attack during the military fitness test and now the military won't pay for the treatment. >> i've been through a lot. this last year has been as difficult and challenging as my deployment to afghanistan. >> he's an army veteran, a captain who served in afghanistan. a current active reserve member. but lately shane morgan and his wife have been in a get health benefits from the army. shane took a required physical fitness test. >> i got 15 pushups in and i noticed it was a lot harder for me to do pushups than it had ever been. he hooked me up to the ekg said i'm 99% sure you're having a heart attack. >> they determined the heart

one year. >> yesterday was so weird. we didn't come anywhere near the record and today, pretty close. >> you could almost forget about yesterday. >> full sunshine and warm temperatures. 81 was the high in boston, short of record high territory. and providence set a record high up to 83. and brainard airport and hartford up to 82. and a warm evening, still well up in the 70s. 67 cooling and provincetown at 66. evenings like this are starting to become fleeting. go for a long walk. just enjoy the days. in november and december a little bit different. taking a look at the big setup. the warm air across the eastern and southern u.s. a system that may become otto. and a front will approach from the west tomorrow and bring more cloud cover and eventually rainfall our way.

this time of the year. a great evening for a space station fly by. look to the western horizon and it will be up for about four minutes. a pretty long trajectory tonight. a bright and mild start and the best part of the day is the first part of the day. as we head into the midday hours, the clouds will start thickening, and there's a chance of rain showers. i think that most stay north and west of boston. for areas of southern new hampshire, central massachusetts and western mass in general. we're looking at low to mid-60s and upper 60s once you getaway interest the water with the wind coming out of the east, that's pretty warm for this time of year. you can see the clouds creeping in through the afternoon and thickening up. and the best chance of rain showers, that's thursday.

are expected here. and it will start to get very humid. friday afternoon we're looking at dew points in the 60s and that will create a bit of a tropical feel. the best chance for steadier rainfall will be friday evening into early saturday morning. a wave of low pressure moving across the area. the one thing that's uncertain is when the rain comes to an end. it may we'll try to nail that down. gusty winds from both saturday and sunday and that's going to bring down a lot of leaves and probably an end to the foliage for northern new england. mid-60s and we fall into the 50s as the wind kicks up out of the west, northwest. sunday, a high of 56. sounds pretty cold but that would be a typical late october day.
