columbia road. breaking overnight boston police investigating a serious shooting roxbury. ems tells us one person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. it happened around 11 last night. no word yet on any arrests. now, to a developing story, a 13-year old boy grazed by a stray bullet lying in his own bed. this after gunfire was heard outside of his home. >> morning with the latest. >> reporter: police say shots were fired during a dispute between a group of young people and a stray bullet went flying into the third floor of this apartment hitting a 13-year old in the shoulder. police blocked off the road with crime tape and placed evidence markers in the street as they investigated the shooting. it forced the bunker are commuted college to go into lock down for about a half hour

neighbors tell us they heard about 10 gunshots in all and believe the shooting is represented to gang activity. the 13-year old's cousin didn't want to show his face on cam with a but he said a stray bullet went flying through the window hitting the teen in his shoulder. >> my mom started screaming and everyone got down. my mom said that he's pretty good, he's at mgh in boston that a little surgery because it -- it hit -- didn't hit him too deep but penetrated good enough. >> reporter: police say the injury are not life-threatening. there is an officer here on scene keeping an eye on the neighborhood this morning. police are asking for help finding 2 suspects who they say took off in a dark colored ford explorer.

everyone, you know, prayed for him and we're happy he's home and he'll still have a long road ahead of him. >> officer morris has been upgrade today stable condition. by the way a blood drive will be held today in honor of the 2 officers. you can stop by the boston police patrolman's association union hall from 8 this morning until 3 this afternoon. the last ditch evident supporters getting ready to rally against an expansion plan. we're live at the state house with more on the key vote happening today. >> reporter: this has been an ongoing debate, but the group protesting here at the state house today say this is more about saving a piece of serenity they say they and their children need. it's been a staple at children's hospital for decades a place for families whose

escape but now this is all in jeopardy as the hospital plans a billion dollar expansion project, a new 11 story building providing more than 70 additional beds. it's the hospital's way they say, of providing more. but thursday as they have in the past a group plans one last attempt to stop the project with a protest hours before the final decision. among many concerns are health care costs and what the expansion project would do to but from the therapeutic perspective saving the garden is about taking the healing from the hospital room to the greens of a garden. that final vote happens today. the group says even if it means the hospital has to go back to square 1 to start with their project expansion plans their goal is to save this garden. . a student is recovering after falling out of a school

guys but now we see a return to some cooler air today, about 20 degrees cooler and you'll feel the difference when we step outside this morning. we've got 30s, 40s, and 50s on the map. it is 42 in taunton. upper 30s, concord new hampshire. but it is going to be a bright start. the sun is going to be out and shining. we're waiting on cloud cover to arrive but it doesn't arrive really until after lunchtime today. ahead of areas of rain too. there have been thunderstorms through north central pennsylvania about to slide over the border. a lot of this rain we don't get into today we'll get into it overnight tonight and tomorrow. highs in the 60s today. 61 in boston that's normal for this time of year. we do go into the mid to upper 60s inland, the wind coming off the ocean. let's take you through the hour by hour, no weather related issues, morning

notice not a lot of green on the map either. you may get a stray shower up route 91. other than that we wait for showers to arrive after the evening commute. they'll develop generally between 6 and 8 p.m. mostly light scattered in nature and those showers will continue at times overnight tonight along with the clouds and patchy fog too. overnight low 57 but rise towards morning. these highs back into warmth tomorrow in the low 70s, dew points climb back into the mid-60s and with the humidity in place and approaching front we will see rain, showers tomorrow morning scattered. showers will become more numerous and widespread during the afternoon appeared late in the day we may get a band of rain. and by the time all is said and done by saturday morning there's just a few lingering showers but most

new hampshire college graduates have the highest student debt a new report finds the average grad owes moaning $36,000, the state with the second highest debt delaware, massachusetts had the 7th highest and utah had the lowest. the army is taking a second look at the case of a current reservist and veteran whose medical bills are piling up. he says he had a heart attack during his mandatory military fitness test. initially the army says it didn't happen during the line of duty and

facing off in their third and final debate and this morning wbz political analyst jon keller gives us his take. >> good morning. on the early news last night here on wbz i offered up 3 keys to the final presidential debate. ideas about what each candidate had to do to maximize their bounce. so let's review whether or not they followed my advice. i suggested donald trump would be smart to get back promises of change in our immigration and trade policy that is attracted so many voters to him in the first place, and for the most part he did that raising the issue of illegal immigrant crime and the economic impact of trade pacts but he just can't resist tacky lines like referring to unwanted mexicans add bad and in their

a new hampshire police officer interrupt as robbery at a home and today those suspects are heading to court. sky eye was over the scene yesterday. 2 suspects were arrested at the scene, a third escaped setting off a massive manhunt. officers say they found him hiding in a shed. the parents of a high school math teacher murdered by a student is school the school st she can be attacked without anyone knowing. they say new security cameras failed to probing her. the lawsuit also names a cleaning company that washed away potential evidence. the family says any money awarded in the lawsuit would go to improving school safety and charities in her memory. a last ditch effort to save the garden.

children's hospital. we're live at the state house with more on the key vote. >> reporter: those protesters will take to the sidewalk here in front of the state house. this is their last chance to try to stop the construction project before that final vote. this is of course been an ongoing debate for many months now and it all surrounds a billion dollar expansion project at children's hospital where a new 11 story many who have used that space for a sense of peace while their children are receiving care oppose the idea. the expansion project will allow for more than 70 additional hospital beds which officials say aids in their high level of care they're able to provide. i can tell you that for some critics opposing this project it is about a financial element, but for those who are protesting today they say it is about saving a space

. right now getting good look at the rescue of a swimmer stranded in waters. the coast guard hoisted the 58-year old into a helicopter tuesday night. this is coast guard video. he has been treading water for hours. he went swimming with his son-in-law when they got caught in a rip current. the son-in-law safely made it to shore on doing okay. the citgo sign could become part of a permanent sign in the skyline. the commission is planning to restrict any new property owners to make address dick changes to the shape or view of the sign. they met yesterday. boston university is selling the building attached to the sign. sweet green is back open this morning after a closed --

a massachusetts woman went to the hospital for stomach pains and got the surprise of a lifetime. she was pregnant. >> a 23-year old says she went to the doctor several times over the last few months. and there was never any indication that she was carrying a baby boy until sunday when an ultrasound source of of his discomfort found him. >> i've lived a normal life, worked full-time, like i -- there was no symptoms, no cravings. >> little jackson was born at 5 pounds. she has been piecing together baby clothing, furniture and toys from donations, and even though she says it's been a struggle she says it's also all worth it. >> pretty well behaved.
