bolting covers. a man was shot in the head and survived steps away from the medical center. . the scene was just cleared a moment ago but i can tell you it all happened on the other runds the best western hotel parking lot here in the shadows of boston medical center. take a look at the scene that we shot at the time. police on the scene telling us a 25-year old man was standing near the fence when a guy rode up on a bicycle and shot him in the face. they tell me the lower part of his face. as far as the suspect, we're not sure what sort of exchange there was happening between the two in the moments leading up to the shooting.

a better idea of exactly that. there is a number of surveillance video and camera around this area so they have went around collecting as much footage as they could get along with ballistic information. they have not ie dent foied a suspect at this point but i can tell you certainly an active investigation. the good news, as you mentioned, the 25-year old man is in stable condition at this hour. live in boston, nick giovanni, news news. five people killed in a wrong way crash. one car slamming into another and all the victims we are told were young adults. >> investigators say the wrong way driver was headed south in the northbound lanes close to middleboro. bill shields is life there tonight. >> reporter: police have yet to officially identify any of the five people involved in this horrific crash.

the principal of barnesville high school did say two of them were from the graduating class of 2015 and 1 was on a career path to become a firefighter. this is what's left of the car that the four young people were in. they all died when it was hit head on by this car which police say was going on the wrong a 495 the preliminary investigation leads investigators to believe the wrong way operator vehicle struck the northbound vehicle head on. the crash impact caused the northbound vehicle to become engulfed in fire. >> it was just after midnight last night and the driver of the white infinity hit the mercury with four young people inside and the mercury bursted

0. >> reporter: firefighters were on the scene within minutes. >> none of the fatalities are pleasant for us but this was exceptionally horrific for our guys and for the families involved. >> reporter: firefighters put out the flames on the mercury but then saw the four young people inside. >> to see that and that much tragedy in one difficult. >> reporter: police believe the infinity was on the highway for only a few minutes when it crashed head on into the mercury. even veteran police officers were disturbed by what they saw. >> certainly any horrific scene would trouble anyone. >> that white infinity is registered to a 31-year old woman out of fall river but police have yet to confirm she was in fact driving the car.

by the end of the week no more cash tolls in massachusetts. it's a move to improve traffic flow but in the short term it could get worse before it gets better. christina haguer is live from the tolls now. you can say goodbye to toll booths and if that makes anyone nostalgic, mass dot officials emphasize this new plan is supposed faster, cleaner, and safer but first, more than an hour of 24- hour road construction. >> we don't want anyone to think they will travel at highway speeds on monday october 31st. it's halloween so you're welcome for your headlines. >> friday night they take cash for the last time at 9:45.

the victims were conducting a monitoring smugglers trying to traffic people in and out of libya with drugs. the national transportation safety board in this country is trying to figure out what caused this deadly bus crash in southern california. the bus plowed swoo a tractor trailer. authorities identified 11 of the 13 people on i-ten near palm springs. nine women among the victims ages between 52-72.

eastern massachusetts. tomorrow night expecting some 20s and 30s and some areas that may not have had a freeze yet. there's freeze watches out including essex county and heading down towards south eastern parts of the state. not one for the cape yet. freeze warnings and frost advisories for tomorrow night. then we head into the middle and late parts of the week. this system is having our interests for thursday and friday. . it could be where we could get snow and ice before we change over to rainfall thursday afternoon and evening. not really talking about totals but worth a chance to see wintery weather. best chances towards the berkshires and greens. we could see the snow getting into worcester county as well. closer to the coast there's a wind off the ocean and that should be enough this time of year to keep this as rainfall. we'll fine tune that as we get
