they were all good kids, everyone of them. >> a car full of college students killed by a wrong way driver, the family shares grief. also, a snapchat scares a local school into lockdown. security stepped up for tomorrow. cold air settling in, the chance for a wintry mix. >> the unusual roadblock in new en handcuffs. we begin tonight with breaking news in the deadly crash at sweet tomatoes restaurant in west newton. the husband of the woman killed in the crash has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver. 57-year-old eleanor melay was one of two people killed in

restaurant. the driver faces two counts of vehicular homicide. also new and 11 -- >> he was the best son. that i could ask for. >> families filled with grief tonight after four college friends died in a fiery crash caused by a wrong way driver. that group was on their way back to school when tragedy struck. >> family members identify two victims, diggs and his 19-year-old cousin jordan fisher. we want to get to wbz's louisa moller live in barnstable tonight. the families are heartbroken. >> reporter: that's right. one other young victim of the crash was also there cousin but what is so incredible about this family is there strength in the face of this tragedy. >> he was a lovable kid, well- liked by all of the kids.

he was the best son. that i could ask for. >> reporter: rodney fisher says his son jordan was his best friend. he attended becker college, a good kid, a 19-year-old boy who was almost a man. >> he loved cars, he loves playing basketball and loved life. >> reporter:calls his 20 year relationship with his son a blessing. craig was a sophomore at anna marina >> he was trying to excel for himself, be the best he could be. >> reporter: just after midnight sunday, police say jordan, craig, and two other young men ages 18 and 19 were driving on 495 in middleborough back to college when a 31-year- old fall river woman driving the wrong way on the highway struck their mercury sable. it burst into flames. first responders found a

the cars charred and barely recognizable. monday night, people gathered at a vigil to remember the young victim is. jordan, craig, and one other were cousins who grew up on cape cod. two of them went to barnstable high school, the fourth young man, a friend of jordan's from west babylon new york. >> they are very well-liked and known and the community is going to get thing. >> two of these young men attended college at santa maria college, the college will be offering counselors tomorrow and because -- the cause of the crash is under investigation. live in barnstable, louisa moller, and wbz news. >> our i-team took a closer look at what can be done to prevent runaway crashes. 4 years ago transportation officials recommended lowering runway and do not enter signs to make them easier to see at

at last check, that project was still underway. in rhode island, a system of sensors on the road immediately notifies police of a wrong way driver. massachusetts police decided not to buy into the system deeming it too expensive. investigators are looking into a crash that sent three people to the hospital, this happened on route 145 in hillside avenue. it looks like a 17-year-old driver lost control, no word on police are looking for a missing woman intricate who they believe could be in trouble. the 75-year-old has alzheimer's disease and parkinson's. shorter -- shortly after she was reported missing yesterday, surveillance video caught her car near dracut. bear has been no sign of her ever since. a live look across the city, temperatures are about to drop in a big way, possibly below freezing. is it true that some areas

early on this evening we saw some in the berkshires and maybe spreading further east later this week but the story is the chill in the air. take a look at temperatures going back tonight, in the 30s in worcester, other areas in the 40s, we continue to see them fall back, still breathing and gusting over 20 miles per hour at times. that wind stays with us tonight and will be back in action tomorrow, in the 30s, out the door to start the day. most towns just above freezing, tomorrow night wind being colder for us. tomorrow night, expect a breeze, tomorrow signs for the most part stay below 50, 10 degrees cooler than today and freeze watch is in effect for tomorrow night. thursday is the day we are watching for the potential of wintry mix in the area. we'll take a look at that coming up. all new tonight, a threatening image circulating on snapchat. this image of a gun that sent a local high school into lockdown. the student actually posted the picture from inside the school walls.

fall river tonight where security will be increased tomorrow. >> reporter: talk about tense moments here at durfee high school, placed on lockdown first thing this morning. basically the moment the administration was made aware of the snapchat photo. image brought to the attention of faculty by other students shows a gun resting on someone's leg with the caption, life at durfee. fall river police were called in and an investigation the gun and student they believe it belonged to. it is worth noting on the photo there was a location stamp of durfee high school meaning the statement had to be taken on school grounds or nearby. investigators could not tracked on the student on campus so they ended up going through his home and that's where they found him and the gun which they discovered was a bb gun. he was arrested and is now facing four charges, one of

grounds. some of the parents snuck outside during the lockdown, let's just say they were livid. >> they need to get more security guards here and know what they're doing, or metal detectors or something. our kids go to school for knowledge and education and are scared to come to school. >> reporter: fall river public schools released a statement this evening reading in part as a school community we are so much better than the unsafe behavior demonstrated by some students. return to our routine tomorrow. that said, there will be changes made to that routine. for one, only the main entrance will be open to both students and staff in the morning. they will also be bringing in metal detectors and wanders as security is beefed up in response to these tense moments earlier today. reporting in fall river, nick deal bonnie, wbz news. right now, crews are locking down all of the storm

16-year-old jacob goulet disappeared during the intense rainstorm friday and investigators believe he was swept downstream. wbz's chantee lams is live in nashua tonight with more on the effort to secure all of the storm drains. >> reporter: that's right. crews will be out in the city doing that, meanwhile, a memorial grows, surrounding the sewer drain where the 16-year- old fell from as the city secures and inspects the drains. the great on the storm ai memorial grows for 16-year-old jacob goulet, the nashua high school student to fell in and died during friday's heavy storms. >> his family, a loss for them. he is too young. >> reporter: a body believed to be his was pulled from the merrimack river sunday, 10 miles away from the borough. friends and complete strangers dropped off flowers at the storm drain in nashua in his honor. >> it makes me happy to see

>> reporter: taylor was jacob's childhood friend. >> he loved music and wanted to be in a really big band one day. he was always playing shows. he was in a band. he just wanted to be a really big musician. >> reporter: city officials have announced they are now making sure other covers are secure. they say public works crews will secure all sewer covers in the city with tamperproof bolts and locks. >> better late than never. it is late, they should have done this before all of the rain started, to prevent something like this. at least they are trying now. hopefully we can prevent more in nashua. >> and the city also plans to check manhole covers and sidewalks and in crosswalks. for now in nashua, chantee lams, wbz news. campaign 2016, 15 days to go until election day, both

driver opening fire on a police cruiser in california. what you don't see here is that a woman had signed up for a police ride along. she was sitting right in the front seat of the cruiser and was scratched by the broken glass, the officer was not heard, the driver is still on the run. now at 11, drivers in massachusetts are lining up to get there tolls turn cashless on friday, and if you don't get one of those, expect a big orange bill in the mail. >> wbz's julie loncich is live. this will not be an easy transition at first. >> reporter: it won't. massdot officials are encouraging any commuter who can take public transportation next week to do so to try to avoid all of this. >> think about this as you would a snowstorm and plan ahead. >> reporter: we have all been

the local ski resorts will be able to do the same? >> they may do it for novelty purposes, getting the juices flowing about ski season around the corner. right here in southern new england it will take a while before we get persistent snow sticking on the ground. northern new england will get more snow later this week. tonight in boston, 47 degrees but look at the wind out of the west at 21 miles per hour. it's very blustery. that makes it feel colder. i thought the sunset looks chilly, kristin in orleans, bright color over the dunes but definitely an evening to bundle up. temps in the 40s and upper 30s, but the wind is making it feel like the 30s all the way around. cold air is pointed at the northeast for the next couple of days and that is going to give us another week of below average temperatures. that has not happened much over the last 8 to 9 months in southern england. snowflakes falling in sugarloaf tonight, snow showers across northern new england.

tomorrow, sunrise at 7:10. tomorrow will look like today, a nice mix of sun and clouds, same wind out of the west northwest, coasting at 25. the big difference is temperatures will be 25 degrees colder than they were today. expect 40s to near 50 degrees. it does feel like november which is around the corner but we are jumping the gun a little bit. hyannis hitting 51, look at worcester, only 44 degrees for the high temp tomorrow afternoon. so freeze watches are posted around as a county, down 128, and heading down toward carver. the weather service on issues these four places that have not yet seen a breeze and they may extend these toward the south shore and the cape. if it's not tomorrow night is going to be the next night which looks colder across the area. boston in the city is the hottest spot on the map, it only hit 42 so far this fall. i think tomorrow night is going

believe it or not, last year was so warm but we had hit freezing october 19. remember the mid-october weekend where we had snowflakes flying? that transitions to thursday for us. we start the day cold, clouds increasing and this system moves in, the front end of it as we head into thursday afternoon, could be some snow and ice mixed in before we change over to rainfall. most of this is going to be rain, there's a chance for some wintry precipitation. heist chance near the berkshires, maybe as northeast is 495, looks as we transition over to rain on thursday night, it's going to add onto a total of over 4 inches in boston and more toward the worcester area. that means this month will be the wettest month of the region, all the way back to december 2014. almost 2 years ago, good for the dry. here's the accuweather seven- day, showers linger friday, a chance for more rain on saturday to start the weekend.
