now at 11, the hunt is on for a suspect police say tried to snatch a girl walking to her bus stop. rule crimes. a man accused of attacking a service dog at aged 12 station. and the effort to rescue a local man from a dark hole under his home. we begin with breaking news, boston police are searching for the man who tried to grab a coral -- grow at a bus stop. >> i'm lisa hughes. >> and i'm david wade. wbz's julie loncich is live tonight, we know that you spoke with the little girl's family. >> reporter: they tell me the little girl was walking right here, just steps from her bus stop when it happened, she

>> she is scared, shaken up. >> reporter: the girl's stepfather says she was steps from her mbta bus stop tuesday morning when she was grabbed from behind. >> she started screaming, somebody came to her rescue and then the guy let her go and started running. >> reporter: boston police say this man captured on surveillance video shortly thereafter is the person of interest in the attempted kidnapping. at the intersection of blue hill avenue and third street as the girl was making her way to school. neighbors nearby say they were awoken by an unmistakable sound. >> i heard a scream, to me, that made me jump up out of my bed. and i went to the window. when i went to the window, i could see a young girl talking to an older guy. she looked at me frantic.

>> reporter: from now on, hector rodriguez says his stepdaughter won't be walking alone. >> i will be walking her every day to the bus stop. >> reporter: in the meantime, he will be out walking trying to find answers. >> if anybody knows that person, report him. it could be your kids, two. >> reporter: thankfully the girl is okay and she still made it to school today. if you have any information about the man in the image, give boston police a call. live in roxbury, julie loncich, wbz news. cruz and everett are battling a big apartment fire right now. >> let's get to wbz's louisa moller live on the scene. >> reporter: if you look behind me, you can see crews are battling away at the apartment fire here on floyd street in everett. we are told it went to a two alarm fire that spread to a triple-decker, and now as you can see we have these firefighters on top of two

the flames now gone as far as we can tell from the top of the roof, but smoke still coming and crews paying a lot of attention to the roofs up there on two different buildings. what we know is the call came in at 9:45, a two alarm blaze. thankfully we are told that no one was injured during all of this. but there are multiple crews on scene. we are also seeing a lot of people frankly as we do many times at these scenes in shock standing outside in their pajamas. much underway right now trying to figure out what's going on. again, the battle continues at this fire on floyd street. are now live in everett, louisa moller, wbz news. now at 11? snow. yes, there were flakes in some areas today and we have a chance at getting more later in the week. eric fisher joining us now and there is a freeze warning tonight. >> as cold as temperatures back in late april across the region

april 20, going back to last spring. many towns in the 30s at this hour, we will see quite a few 20s by tomorrow morning. when you factor in the wind, it feels like 24 in worcester right now, windchill of 33 in boston. there are the freeze warnings for most of eastern massachusetts, the growing season will likely not be going when you wake up tomorrow morning. a chilly morning at the bus stop, definitely one winter coats, temperaturin west, 20s west of the city, 30s near the shoreline. a little bit of snow, quite a bit of rain in the forecast after that. we'll talk about that in a few minutes. witnesses describe the horrifying infuriating incident they saw a man punching and choking his service dog outside of a station. one man captured the cruelty on

saw happened to louisa moller. >> reporter: this vivacious husky was the victim of animal abuse monday night. >> i yelled over like what are you doing? mind your own business. go back inside. >> reporter: william miller captured this telephone video of the husky and its owner and miller says what he saw before he hit record devastated him. >> he got on top of the dog with his knees on the rib cage telling him to saw the owner, 46-year-old john bohen, punch and hit the dog, even lift him completely off the ground by his leash. he told mbta police who found bohen and arrested him for animal cruelty. >> a beautiful, young nine month old husky. >> reporter: inspectional services took over from there, names the husky sarah, and brought her to boston's animal care shelter where she is

that means it is from last night. >> reporter: sarah is now in the custody of the city of boston until the end of the case. miller hope she never goes through this again. >> i don't think that he is a good owner for that dog and i think that dog could go to a home where it will be loved and taken care of. >> reporter: bohen is a level three sex offender according to the sex offender registry and also listed as homeless. in boston, louisa moller, wbz news. student at framingham university has tested positive for mumps. as a precaution, the student is in isolation undergoing treatment. mumps is highly contagious. the university is checking immunization rates -- records of students and classmates to make sure everyone else is safe. there is also a mumps alert at the university of new hampshire we are told, the school is now investigating three cases

crews removing a school bus after the driver crashed into a home in quincy injuring several young students. officials in fact just reopened that street. there were more than 30 kids on the bus at the time of the crash, the driver clipped an suv come hit a fire hydrant, hit a telephone pole, and then crashed into the house. paramedics took both the drivers and five students to hospitals with minor injuries. bumpy and then we heard something crack and it started smelling like fire. we just ran screaming. >> reporter: at this point, police believe the bus driver had a medical condition. that's what caused the crash. the accident is still under investigation. tonight, dedham man is locked upturns with murdering his own father. alex anderson beat his 59-year- old father paul to death with a hammer and a knife and then threw him down the stairs in the home they shared.

police that he was comical, aggravated with his dad. the father had taken out a restraining order against his son in the past. a visible -- vigil for a missing woman intricate attempts to end the search and preserve the hope that she will be found lied. the 75-year-old woman has alzheimer's disease and parkinson's. she was reported missing sunday afternoon and since then police have been searching for the former teacher in cars, on foot and from the air. more volunteers are joining the effort every day. their love and support. and, i just wish at this point we have a happy ending. you know, it has been two days, it has been awfully cold. she weighs only about 100 pounds but we are not giving up hope yet. >> reporter: again, catherine is a very slight woman, she is five feet six, weighs 100 pounds, we hope some of you will recognize her and call police. austin police investigating

you won't believe the security video from florida tonight which shows armed robbers ransacking a home, all while the family is sleeping you see the burglars with their weapons drawn, just tiptoeing around the living room. those two kids sleeping on the couch never wake up. the family checked their surveillance cameras when they noticed that their credit cards and cell phones were missing. it wasn't passengers but the crew that forced a plane to make an emergency landing in vancouver. all 25 crew members on the british airways flight got sick, some passed out. after the emergency landing

precaution. they were on their way from san francisco to london at the time, british airways is trying to figure out what they were exposed to. frightening moments for a topsfield homeowner working on his porch when suddenly it collapsed underneath him. you can see in these photos just how far down into the basement he ended up falling. >> firefighters say when they arrived, he was trapped 12 feet underground. wbz's chantee lams has more on the unique wayey out. >> reporter: it was a distress call, topsfield firefighters were not expecting. >> a male reporting trapped inside of a collapsed porch. >> all of the concrete ended up collapsing with him on top. >> reporter: this image shows a homeowner wearing a green shirt, lying below his own porch inside of a 12 foot hole. >> the concrete hole, which was three or 4 inches thick ended up collapsing and falling into basically a false.

while stranded and unable to escape, the homeowner who happened to have his cell phone on him called police and when they arrived, they saw hundreds of pounds of concrete dangling over his head. >> it was nerve-racking because we don't want our people to get hurt. and we don't want that person to get hurt, so we know it's a balance between risk versus benefit. >> reporter: so they calculated perfectly. >> this is called a stokes basket. a really nice rescue device with a lot of handles on it. >> repor minutes stabilizing him before they pulled him out. >> he was awake the whole time, talking to us. a little embarrassed but that is okay. >> reporter: the homeowner declined to talk, a woman who answered the door says he is doing a little bit better but needs a little bit more time to rest. as far as what cause the concrete debacle, the building inspector says the concrete was poured years ago over wood. >> the years of stuff running

and it just took that one hit and crumbled. >> reporter: in topsfield, chantee lams, wbz news. here's another lucky escape from a runaway ride, a man forced to chase down his own car when it took off on its own. you can see the man running behind it, cars slamming on their brakes to avoid him. finally his car slams into a highway sign and stops. of course it was all banged up i then. police are now looking for >> it's like it was taunting him. definitely getting colder outside and when fall means winter in the picture it can be pretty dramatic. >> eric is making up words now. you have foliage, snow, and you have come up with? snowliage. snowliage pictures have been unreal. we had this over the course of the weekend, got a little bit more today. this is mount mansfield in vermont. unbelievable.

i put a link on my facebook and twitter page, he has a whole gallery of pictures up in vermont. snow showers continued today, a few flurries in worcester county, reports around sterling, rutland and downtown worcester. what we are watching next is the system across the middle of the country which may bring the area a little bit of snow but quite a bit of rain as we look toward thursday. short-term ideas, all about the temperatures from already falling back to the 30s, keene below freezing. worcester down to 34 degrees, still gusting at time some up around 30 miles per hour at cape cod and the islands. windchill dipping down to the 20s here and there. freeze warnings from essex county down 128 and to the south coast, this part of bristol county not included because the weather service says there has already been a freeze. right along the media south shore to katie on the islands, not likely to get to the freezing mark because of the wind that will stay off the

worcester has hit 34 and is likely to hit 32 degrees overnight tonight, we get a little bit colder, arriving later than average, on average, mid-october but not unusual in the city. as we look toward tomorrow morning, 20s to low 30s at the door, very chilly start. as we look to the afternoon, bright sunshine but stay in the 40s tomorrow, very similar to today's temps. one area that will see more cloud cover than everywhere else will be toward cape cod and cape ann. ocean effect clouds, might even get a rain shower as we head into the late afternoon and evening. as we look toward tomorrow morning, we start the day in the 20s to low 30s, max in the upper 40s and tomorrow night, 20s again. that sets the stage for our next storm system moving in thursday. clouds would be thickening up in the morning at as we head toward the afternoon, the storm system president. might be just cold enough to cross the interior to get a burst of snow and sleepy for a quick changeover to rain. most of the storm for us is going to be ran, could come down quite heavily. as we head into thursday night
