open 10 minutes from the split up to the pike exit. and route 3 along the south shore is in great shape as well. panic on the orange line as smoke fills the train, passengers smashing out window to say escape. the mbta says an overheated motor is to blame. >> self people were taken to the hospital. let's get you live to where this all happened. . >> reporter: that chaos unfolded when the train was ful in the moment they had no idea why the train was filling with smoke creating a lot of fear and panic. . >> actual car i was on jerked it smelled like brake smoke. >> reporter: passengers capture moments of panic as smoke begins to fill the train. >> i had no idea what was going on. there was a ton of smoke. so the first thing on my mind was getting out of there.

motor likely overheated but with no announcements and no understanding of what was happening fear set in. >> people started to panic. the doors wouldn't open. so people tried to get the men in the front to pry the doors open. they wouldn't budge so somebody smashed the window. >> reporter: according to officials the door didn't open because the train had moved away from the platform. . >> i saw people panicking and i'm like i when you're a first responder you don't think you just do and your trained and my thought was we need some fresh air. >> reporter: once safe back inside first responders treated several people for smoke inhalation, 3 were taken to the hospital for further evaluation. fire officials say they also put out a trash fire on the tracks fortunately no one was seriously hurt. the mbta says

>> the t is investigating that incident on the orange line saying that safety of their passengers is the top priority. a similar situation happened back in january 2015 on the red line. a system failure filled a train with smoke. passengers had trouble getting out of one door and some passengers kicked out the windows to get out. the mbta does hold training drills to respond to these types of emergency evacuations one is scheduled this saturda mbta after $600,000 in mistakes. according to the globe the t replaced 6 of its 7 top human resource managers when consultants determined 20% of employees were incorrectly billed for health and retirement benefits. they say several of those managers resigned and at least one retired. a damaged suv pulled from a home and we've learned the driver of that suv works for

car at the time. we're live, very scary. >> reporter: very scary, and police say that driver was trying to make a left turn but collided with another vehicle before slamming into this building. and even with the damage and the impact that you see here the 2 people inside that vehicle were injured but able to walk away. a witness saw this entire scene take shape. >> i heard a boom down that end which made me go to the corner. >> reporter: he asked not tell the story. >> i seen a white car flying up here doing like 70 with no brakes smack into the wall. >> reporter: a crash at the dead end of grove street. >> he couldn't stop any way because he was going too fast. >> reporter: according to authorities the damage here is likely easily repairable as only a renovated pantry was impacted but much is still under investigation including what may have happened minutes before.

hit and run further down and -- in one of the actual residents of this area said they believed this vehicle struck another vehicle. >> reporter: no one was inside the home at the time. and the uber driver and passenger were said to be alert. >> i thought they was dead because he was going to fast. i'm surprised they both got out of the car. >> reporter: and taking a live told the structural integrity was not compromised terribly but i can tell you authorities were concerned about the wall. just next to that vehicle possibly caving in obviously that did not happen here. they were able to shore it up in a way that prevented that but i can tell you at this point it's still under investigation. and no charges have been filed. . >>. and a box truck driver cited after his truck slammed into a home causing significant damage

tapering off by 9 a.m. it's a drying process early tomorrow morning. expected snow fall there may be a couple flake that is mix in in the very beginning. no impact in worcester county but the bushing insurance high terrain of northwest connecticut 1 to 3 inches with the highest amounts with elevation. rainfall forecast here most of us end up with a half an inch to an inch half of rain and again the heaviest overnight into predawn tomorrow. wind is going to be an issue in spots. i want to take you through this evening wind 20 to 30 miles per hour, not damaging but strong. it's early tomorrow morning, look at the map gusts 50 plus in a couple of spots in the outer cape we may gust to 45 miles per hour at the coastline that will be strong enough to see isolated pockets of damage that may be possible right at the coastline. again, strongest wind comes in after midnight until 6, 7 a.m. tomorrow morning.
