their way north to east. it's warmer in eastern mass, even though we're in the 40s to the 50s. we'll be looking at a rainy evening and the heavier chance for rainfall moving through overnight tonight. you can see the influence of the ocean. in october it is very warm protecting eastern mass. you can see with the higher elevations and where they are. to the west that's where the cold is all locked in. as we track the downpours tonight, you'll see the snow going away. we'll have areas of rainfall through this ev right in the middle of the night. after midnight we'll be sweeping in across the area with the bigger totals towards cape cod. might be a little thunder and lightning with some lingering rain across new hampshire and far northern massachusetts tomorrow morning before we dry out with a blustery day as the winds switch around. now tonight the strongest winds again across southeastern mass and right near the coast. the wind advisory is up around 50 miles per hour.

trees and cause scattered overnight power outages. we'll have more on this storm and for more of those scenes coming up in a bit. >> thank you. a terrible tragedy today. tonight investigators are trying to figure out what caused this crash that killed an elderly man. bill shields is live tonight with the very latest. bill? >> dave, this happened right here as you can see now that the accident has been cleared and the road is back open. now cars are passing but this was a terrible accident that investigators can't figure out just exactly how it happened and what lead to this elderly man's death. the car hit a curb and then flipped bursting into flames. inside an elderly male. a local man from milford. just before the crash he was seen driving ere radically. >> a few moments later we get a call of a rollover crash.

people inside. >> reporter: little or nothing that anyone could do to help the man. police believe he likely died on impact before the car caught fire. just a short time before the crash here we are told that the elderly gentleman had a doctor's appointment. we don't know exactly what kind of doctor's appointment just that it was medical. then a short time later this crash and he died. reporting live from milford i'm bill shields wbz we just got new information about tuesday's school bus crash in quincy. investigators have now ruled out a mechanical failure. the driver slammed right into a house sending several elementary school students to the hospital. we were able to obtain the bus operate's driving record today. he has not had any violations in at least 18 years. there are new questions tonight in the safety of the

to escape. but union members tell us he's a hero and that the trains are the real problems here. christina hager is live from the back bay with more. >> reporter: david, there are several local lawmakers aimed at preventing disasters like what we saw here yesterday. most agree the biggest problems, these are very old trains. >> reporter: amy is gett nightmare commute yesterday. >> we stopped, they said we needed to get out because there were no buses and no one knew what was happening. >> reporter: it was the ripple effect of this. passengers are climbing through windows as their train filled with smoke just moments later some were left struggling to catch their breath.

well tonight emergency workers are helping thousands of people who have been left homeless by the earthquake and the aftershocks in central italy. they're also looking now under the rubble for people or pets who were caught in the debris. right now there are no reports of any deaths. two earthquakes hit yesterday. the largest was a magnitude 6.1. these were aftershocks of an august earthquake that killed nearly 300 million to survivors of a deadly derailment in philadelphia and the victims families. in may of last year eight people were killed. more than 200 others were hurt when this train went off the tracks. the train hit a curve at more than 100 miles an hour. investigators determined not long after that the operator had been distracted. a different kind of distraction here, a sky west pilot is off the job facing charges of being drunk before the flight.

to a few inches of rain. it's moving its way westward. this warmer air is is taking control. now it will change all those areas over. most of the soft snow this morning to the west will get it all washed away tonight and during the day tomorrow. so our end of the state we're looking at mainly just rainfall including new hampshire as well. temperatures are too warm to see any snowfall here, but we will see areas of moderate to heavy rain. right now providence down towards fall river and new bedford. l temperatures closest to the ocean in that time of the year where they will bring in the milder air. 47 degrees in provincetown. this is why it is so tough. but inland look at worcester at 36. look at springfield at 33 degrees. pittsfield at 32. you can usually see the fence of them block some of the warmer air. as we head through tonight areas of the moderate to heavy rainfall for this evening. but the heaviest downpours

for many of us that's after midnight. these yellows and oranges, a chance for some thunder and lightning as well as the biggest rain totals. you think overall the highest risk could top two inches towards cape cod and the islands southeastern massachusetts. now that'll start wrapping up tomorrow morning. for the drive over northern massachusetts and lunchtime. a lot of clouds are lingering for tomorrow and wind will be the biggest th rain totals looks like many of us. i'm sure that there will be a few pockets that don't quite get to one inch. no doubt about that beneficial rain. now when those heavier downpours move in tonight, they will help channel down some of the stronger winds. wind advisories are out. down through boston and all of southeastern massachusetts until 10:00 a.m. we could see the gust here at 30 to 50 miles per hour. since there are still a lot of leaves on the tree, we could

maybe a good idea to make sure that your battery is charged on the cell phone if you use that alarm to wake up in the morning. as we look at those winds by midnight this is where they will start to increase gusting out of the south-southeast at their strongest points. notice by 4:00 a.m. this is where it is really ripping outside. then tomorrow morning when you wake up, i expect those stronger winds towards the seacoast as they will all turn around for the rest of the day gusting up to 20 to 30 miles per hour and throughout the day on friday. we will start the day th rain tapering. still continuing across new hampshire. and otherwise it will be about wind with a lot of clouds around and some glimpses of sunshine. temperatures will hold steady. and then we'll start to fall into the 40s as we head towards the evening. there is a break down of some of the highs with the coldest temperatures that will be across south central mass. towards the weekend fairly quiet here. we'll see one system approach here on saturday. bring those clouds in with a slight chance for the shower to

some of these rain showers should move across towards sunday evening. all told that it is not a bad weekend, fending off those clouds on saturday afternoon. we reach the upper 50s, then the middle 50s as we look towards sunday. after that halloween monday. weather looks great with less winds and sunny skies. low 50s with a cool and great night. but the warming trend and the 60s return. just maybe a shot of 70 degrees next week. big changes are coming. david over to you. >> all right eric thank on the health watch tonight, millions of american children, they have peanut allergies. the allergies usually last into adulthood. but there's a patch that could one day help. obviously a huge development. here with some new and promising research, affecting so many people. >> it really does. it is a daily skin patch that will develop that tiny dose of peanut protein into the skin to help train them and how to tolerate peanut. in the small one-year study

maybe some people are not ready for it. mitch sent in this picture from lennox, massachusetts. you see a little bit of fall mixing in. here here is a look another radar. too warm for that with the snow going as far east. that line is retreating off towards the west now. no accumulation central and eastern mass. we'll be looking for a rainy night. no question about that. the heaviest rain in the middle of the night. you could see the localized flash flooding in the middle of the road, not when they are out there on the streets, but a chance for scattered hundred dollar -- chance for a scattered wind gust. tonight the sheriff deputy who ended the mall rampage says that he still struggles with memories from that night.
