joe biden is a top the list to be hillary clinton's secretary of state. he talked about what he wants to do when he leaves the office. >> i'm going to spend the rest of my life working on a cancer moonshot. >> reporter: he turned down the chance to run for president after his son beau biden died from brain cancer last year. craig boswell, cbs news, the white house. vice presidential candidate mike pence is talking about what happened when his campaign airplane skidded off of the runway. it was landing in rainy conditions at laguardia airport last night it came down hard and overshot the runway before coming to a stop in the grass. he shared what he saw and felt on cbs this morning. >> there was about 10 seconds of uncertainty as we landed. we had a low ceiling, and came in -- but once we were on the ground, you could tell that they were trying to break -- to stop the aircraft as quickly as possible. it slid back and forth a little bit and then it left the road but all are well. >> mike pence says that he and his family are grateful for the concern expressed for them and they are back on the campaign trail using a different airplane. a safety system is credited with stopping mike pence

it is engineered so that the wheels will sink in, safely slowing down and stopping an airplane if it overshoots the runway. that is what left a gash on the runway in new york. the system is installed at dozens of airports across the country including logan. a man is dead after police say that he fired shots at officers last night at the mary martelli hampton new hampshire police say that the 38-year-old suspect shot at police and took his life. the hotel was evacuated and police and swat teams surrounded the motel. the suspects name has not been released. police say that they are still investigating. a new hampshire man could face kidnapping charges after police say that he dragged his girlfriend out of her workplace but a worker at issue company and londonderry called 911 when he saw victor rosario dragging his girlfriend out. the police put a picture of him and his car on social media. he and his girlfriend were found by massachusetts state police in worcester. >> the victim was inside the

rude -- released by the investigation continues and he is facing charges pending the outcome. >> the potential charges include kidnapping and domestic simpss was not in the car the time. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a crash that killed an elderly driver. the car apparently hit a curb and slipped and burst into flames. yesterday afternoon. police say that they have reports of an erratic driver, just before the crash. a fight over a cemetery in central massachusetts may have to be decided by a court. this is the parcel of land in doubly where the islamic society of worcester wants to buy and use for a cemetery. the town has been blocking the plan and 10 months of talks have broken down. the group is now suing massachusetts -- in massachusetts land court and the aclu plans to file a civil rights suit in district court. they're getting ready for

so a lot of dry periods this weekend, high temperatures, 55 to 60, pretty normal, pretty seasonal and there will be a gusty southwest wind and that will shift around on sunday, middle to upper 50s, places like bedford and boston, low 60s may come from taunton to plymouth and along the south coast and monday is halloween. we have had all types of extremes on halloween. the warmest was 81, back in 1946, the coldest, 27, 1904, 2.5 inches of rain in 1939 and a trace of thankfully no weather-related issues for halloween. 53 with sun and clouds, the 40s for trick-or-treaters, citing clouds, upper 50s for tuesday and a warming trend, in the mid- 60s on wednesday. >> i like that.
