right now over the westin tolls where construction started yesterday. traffic being routed to the left and to the right as they are in the process of ripping out that center toll plaza. speed limit through the construction zones is 15 miles per hour. so we're expecting that to really slow down the commute. 23 simultaneous construction sites right now on the mass pike as they begin phase 1 of this project. so just seeing some light traffic right now. nothing too crazy. things are looking pretty decene this as the morning goes on and as more people hit the roads. >> and like she just said we'll see how bad the commute is as drivers get used to this new traffic pattern. >> transportation officials are warning everyone to expect a rough ride this morning. we're live along the pike with more. >> reporter: this is the snowstorm mass dot was warning everybody about this morning.

booth demolitions and new traffic patterns. no need to be alarmed this monday morning. >> i think it's going to be crazy. >> reporter: when you're a.m. commute looks a little like this. >> there's going to be a lot of activity, less road to use. >> reporter: activity sure to lead to bumper to bumper traffic even more than you'd typically see. mass dot now well underway with toll booth demolition along the pike ahead of schedule they say but slow down. >> we're reminding people to obey the 15-mile an hour limit through the old toll areas which are now construction area. >> you can't -- there's no way around that. >> reporter: because what became habit for so many is no more. >> do not stop at these old toll blasts is as. >> reporter: forcing us all to become creatures of a new one.

can see these morning commuters slowly making their way through what used to be the westin toll booth plaza. of course the speed limit they want you to go about 15 miles per hour. you can see police out here monitoring the situation making sure everything goes just as they planned as much as you can plan for something like this. this is the big test and unfortunately mass dot says it's one you'll have to retake possibly every day through november 22nd, but of course they say it should be okay. . breaking overnight a pedestrian hit, this happened just before 11 last night. no word on the victim's condition or if the driver will face any charges. now, to a developing story out of salem this morning, 2 children and an adult rushed to the hospital after police say they were hit by a drunk driver.

>> reporter: police say a woman and 2, 10-year old girls were hit at this intersection during salem's popular halloween celebrations that attracts thousands of people. take a look at this video showing police responding to the scene and reconstructing the accident last night. police say a 52-year old was driving under the influence when he hit the woman and those 2 girls. one of them was taken to mass general hospital, the woman and the other child were taken to salem hoit they were hit while walking in the crosswalk and that the driver initially took off but returned to the scene. police say the driver is facing charges of operating under the influence, failing to yield and leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury. even though the victims were seriously hurt they are expected to survive. fire officials tell me they were huge crowds here this weekend and tonight is the big night. so this really serves as an important reminder to be extra careful tonight

out and about celebrating halloween and trick or treating. and other news an mbta trolley operator recovering this morning after he was attacked by a man wearing a halloween mask. police are still searching for the suspect who took off leaving the employee unconscious. that operator says the attacker told him he didn't have the money to pay for his fare and that's when he went on the attack. he said he punched him in the head and pulled onto the platform. >> pretty tragic, i think, and unfortunately not so surprising. >> why would you do that? i mean, that's just ridiculous. you hurt people because you don't have the money? i mean, that doesn't even make any sense. >> the governor released a statement about the attack saying quote such a vicious and senseless violent attack on a public employee is intolerable. a boston college student sexually assaulted an the

morning. police say the woman was walking from cleveland circle back to her off campus residence just after 2:30 sunday morning when she was followed by 2 men. the woman says one of them grabbed and saw him her. she was able to break free and get away. police are now reminding students to avoid walking alone at night and use the university's escort service. and to stay in well lit areas and avoid taking shortcuts checking in on campaign 2016 for you this morning. the fbi has obtained a warrant to start searching through thousands of newly discovered emails that could be connected to hillary clinton's use of a private email server. it is shaking up the presidential race. . >> reporter: as hillary clinton tries to move past the latest chapter into her email scandal. >> i'm not stopping now. we're just getting warmed up, rp

carved pumpkins, who knew that was a thing. more than 3,000 feet long here. each had 2 eyebrows, eyes a nose and a mouth. again a world record officials was on hand to verify the attempt which saw the final tally 3,975 pumpkins, that is a lot of pumpkin seeds that you have to bake after all that work. that's so hard. >> scraping them out. >> it's the hardest thing. it's not easy. didn't you say it. >> we do do it. we did it this weekend. i made the best seeds yesterday. i put a little butter and roasted them. it's like addictive. >> a little snack? we have all different types

all this, that's not true. >> at some point the individual pulled out a large enough and started to go at the ems personnel. our officers who are outside heard the commotion they went in and he started to come at the officers. at that point -- it left them know choice they fired, and unfortunately they had to take this young individual's life. >> he does not think a taser would have worked in the officers were not wearing body cameras on that shift. both officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave. >> the response to a gun buy back program surprising even the police. it was the first time the police held the event. residents brought in 174 rifles and assault rifles, shot and shotguns. turnout was so large police actually ran out of gift cards and had to go get more.

yeah, today marks the end of an era here, construction underway on the mass pike. here in westin it almost looks unrecognizable that center toll booth hags already been torn down. all that is left is chunks of concrete and debris. actually just got another alert that the toll booths were just demolished and said that construction is ahead of schedule in many places along the pike. just a couple of make sure you leave the house early. give yourself plenty of time and if you can work from home do so. also make sure off full tank of gas and follow mass data on twitter, they'll be doing updates along the day. hundreds of police details and construction workers at all of these at the same time. we're starting to see some slow and go traffic eastbound as you make your way into the city. traffic westbound still looking pretty

out more sun this afternoon as that wave is way out over the ocean now. high pressure is building in today. temperatures will be right around 50 degrees, the wind will gust occasionally over 20 miles per hour. tomorrow a blend of sun and clouds the high slips east and we get a warm up for mid-week. warm front comes in on wednesday, there's not a lot of moisture but you will notice clouds on wednesday morning. that's a sign of the warmer air pushing in. so as the warm front lifts north the sun breaks out we wednesday afternoon. dry through mid-week as well. next chance of rain comes through with this front not until later on thursday and we'll be warm again out ahead of that disturbance thursday afternoon. so high temperatures today right around or over 50 degrees we should be about 57 in boston this time of the year so a little cooler than average day. 46 in worcester a blend of sun and clouds some of the clouds will linger on cape cod after

let's get a check of the roads live in the chopper. >> good morning. yeah, we're live in sky eye right now. we made our way closer to the city. to we're hovering over the tolls right now. definitely some heavy traffic delays. look at it. the center toll pleas is completely gone already. mass dot has sent out an alert that they're ahead of schedule in many spots along the pike. so that is some they have removed canopies and booths from a lot of the plazas. now, we have a couple of tips this morning, if you're making your way into the city you want to give yourself plenty of of time to leave the house. this is expected to get busy as the morning goes on. we do have mobile on the ground and you can see he's moving at a pretty good pace. between the 7 and 9:00 hour that probably will not be the case. the speed limit through the construction zones

will significantly slow things down. when the center toll plaza booths are being removed traffic is being rerouted to the left and right. so that is obviously going to slow things down. there is makeshift lanes out of traffic cones. everyone is going to be getting used to these new lanes all at once this morning. mass dot has said if you can work from home, great, public transportation, if you can travel at off peak hours basically anything to kind of offset everyone road at once. we'll continue to monitor these traffic continues for you. right now a little bit of back up, not so bad. breaking overnight a pedestrian hit, this happened just before 11 last night. no word on the victim's condition or if the driver will face any charges. just about 6:58, checking
