responding to a call of smoke in a building and this chevy suv. >> it appeared that the driver of the vehicle came out in the intersection and the engine hit them. >> reporter: according to the fire commissioner, the sirens were flashing as it was sent to the sidewalk upon impact. it plowed into a parked coo -- and it set off a domino effect. nine cars crash. over-- they were towed away one by one from the scene as investigators began piecing together what happened. >> it doesn't appear that anyone in is the wrong. it doesn't appear that way. thankfully, no one was injured. >> reporter: and that was the general consensus out here. that it was remarkable no one was seriously injured. the same can't be said for all of these cars out here.

joseph-- of tewksbury, facing serious charges in connection with the violent death of a 15- year-old boy. identified as ethan costello also of tewksbury. it happened friday night on this property. it was an underage drinking party in an adjacent barn. >> the victim -- the defendant responded by picking him up and slamming his head floor which caused grievous injuries to him. the defendant bragged to other people about what he had done. >> reporter: he was not drunk and responsible for his actions. his lawyer has a different take. >> there was no one being thrown to the ground. there was a push. and in unspeakable tragedy, the victim in this case fell to the floor and it seems that he hit

teenagers were drunk. when friends tried to bring the victim in the house, the homeowner allegedly said get that kid out of here. i'm not dealing with drunk kids. they eventually drove him to the hospital. meanwhile an uncle of the defendant says his family is in pain as well. >> he's feeling horrible too. it's an unfortunate situation. we don't know the whole case and we haven't even really talked to apology. held on $10,000 cash bail and if we makes bail. he's subject to gps monitoring, confined to his home. new at 5:00. the mbta released surveillance video of the man they say attacked a trolley operator. early sunday morning, the man punched the operator in the head, pulled him off the

let the man on because he didn't have money to pay the fair. a school bus driver, mark woods, was cited for a violation. the bus hit a fire hydrant, snapped a telephone pole, ran over a mailbox, hit an suv and then a home. the electronic tolls on the mass pike passed their first test today despite big delays. things moved relatively well. the tolls were turned on friday night. and crews didn't start demolishing the old plazas until last night. >> reporter: if we take a look past these evacuate ant tolls -- these vacant tolls, traffic is not bad. there were fewer drivers on the pike and that made for a better

october was in a costume of november. and it was definitely a wet month. >> and november is our cloudiest month of the year. and when it comes to the rain, it's not beautiful but we needed it and we got it. 5inches of rain in boston. and some towns got 8 inches of rain this month making it the wettest since december 2014. and a month of above average temperatures in boston. that keeps the trend going. the average temperatures has been april. and we're on track for the 6th warmest year on record in the city of boston. september was well above the norm. autumn, first couple of months, definitely well above the normal mark. there's a chill in the air. and temperatures in the 40s and low 50s as you head to connecticut. much of the country has been talking about the heat. halloween, 83 in wichita,

and those are record highs. for us at home, we're not talking about anything unusual or record breaking. the warmest halloween was back in 1946. and the coldest was 1904. we had 2 1/2 inches in the '30s. and we've had snowstorms before halloween. you remember snowtober just a few years and overnight lows 25 to 33 and the winds will be calm. and the city of boston gets to 38. as we look to midday, a nice rebound. a light southerly breeze and many tops will -- many towns will top 30. sunset at 5:37 for tomorrow

56 in boston. and lawrence 55 degrees. and bedford hitting 57. and hyannis 54. this is where we have a chance for a pretty significant warmup. here is our warm front that we're watching, the leading edge of that really warm air. and you know how warm fronts are. tough to push them across the region. i think on wednesday we start with cloud cover. the afternoon will feature brightening skies on wednesday, and we get the milder air moving in. but there's a chance at northern massachusetts and new hampshire will never break completely to the warm air. then we head to thursday, same idea. the warm front is still camped out. and we'll see a strong southwesterly wind develop, eventually pushing in the milder air. and the chance of temperatures reaching 70 degrees will be along and south of the pike with the cooler air to the north. a chance of thunder late thursday to the afternoon and
