and this crime was not random they believe. >> very unnerving. it's supposed to be a safe neighborhood. >> reporter: a quiet neighborhood in sterling rattled after a 70-year-old woman was tied up and robbed at knife pint. >> they held a knife to her throat and were demanding money and the location of a safe. there was no safe. >> police say three masked men entered the house up with duct tape on her bedroom floor. they left with her car, a 2004 black cadillac de-ville 641 wkm. she was able to free herself and call police for help. >> it's very trouble. we live right next door to princeton and princeton is undergoing something much worse than this. and crime is affecting small communities in central

nowadays. keep the doors looked i guess. >> and so far no arrests. if you have any information about the cadillac de-ville contact police. chantee lans, wbz news. more breaking news at 5:00. police have cited the driver of an suv for a crash involving a boston fire truck and several other vehicles. the driver did not stop for the emergency vehicle and five people were hurt in that crash in the back bay. of dartmouth street and con av. today we learned that demazzi is not termly ill. his cancer is in corruption. a judge sentenced him to eight years in prison. and since then he's been diagnosed with throat cancer. he's had trouble heating and

choking. a judge was asked for a compassionate release. >> at the time of the trial he weighed 240. annoy he's in the 170s. >> judge has taken the request under advisement and no word on when he'll decide. one child got a bit more of a trick. a small bottle of vodka mixed in with now police want to know if this was a fluke or something more sinister. >> reporter: police went door to door this morning, giving parents a heads up about the discovery while trying to figure out how the bottle got in the book. ghosts and goblins, the usually suspects encountered by young trick or treaters.

boston. and then temperatures should be up in the 60s and maybe close to 70. it doesn't last too long but a couple of days to get outside. we have a developing story in maryland. federal investigators are already on scene looking for clues in this deadly crash between a school bus and a transit bus. there were no kids on the school bus but the crash killed the school bus driver and five people on car, struck the entrance to a cemetery, and veered into on coming traffic and hit the transit bus. >> it literally looked like a bomb exploded in the bus. >> 10 other passengers on the bus were hurt. lowell police suspended the license of a woman who took off after hitting a child who was trick or treating. the car hit him as he was

sunshine and cool temperatures and looking over the next couple of weeks, i think there'll be more days like this. here's a preview when it comes to highlights in the month of november and daylight. our average high in boston goes from 56 -- hey, john, what's up? we'll get political commentary coming up. average high goes to 47. we fall back this sunday and of course, the earlier sunsets. and flakes fly in the month of november. the average snowfall in boston is 1.3 inches. we did have one storm back in 2014, around thanksgiving. it put down some snow and odds are highing inland than they are at boston logan airport. temperature-wise this evening. we're in the low to mid-50s and we look to the west, a lot of

green bay, wisconsin is sitting at 70. and there are record highs from the gulf coast all the way up to the u.p. of michigan. we're going to have a day that starts with a little bit of cloud cover and not as cold. we'll have the 20s out there. sunrise is 7:19 and as the morning progresses, we should work in bright day. and tomorrow is the pick of the week if you want to get outside. we're in the 60s by lunchtime. and we stay in the 60s through the afternoon. and if we can get more sunshine i wouldn't be surprised if a few towns could hit 70. 67 in boston. manchester, 64 degrees. and a southwesterly breeze will develop and a good day to be outdoors, no question about that. and thursday, things are more complicated. the warm front which is the

back southwest during wednesday night and thursday morning. that means we start the day much cooler on thursday. it nudges just a little bit farther north and the warmest temperatures will be along and south of the pike. but once you're in new hampshire and far northern massachusetts a good part of the day on thursday, we'll stay in the 40s and 50s. we'll get rain showers moving through thursday evening. and the front will usher in colder air as we head into not just the colder air but the wind, gusting out of the northwest. the friday night plans look pretty chilly. we're looking at temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s. and looks like an ocean storm tries to develop late on sunday but just offshore. for right now. maybe a sprinkle or a flurry on sunday and that would be it. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast. and it's a cool one after the next two days. a mild treat, a chilly friday,

live from the channel 4 studios in boston, wbz news at 5:30 starts now with breaking news. >> a terrible crash on route 44 east in middleborough near the carver line. at least three vehicles, inclg truck were involved here. it appears one of the vehicles may have caught fire. we do not have any confirmed information on injuries but the crash is causing big delays on route 44. there's a second crash on 44 as well east of the first scene. two cars were involved. one is flipped over. and no word on injuries at this scene either. and sterling police are

year-old woman was tied up and threatened. the woman was targeted. this was not a random attack. the suspects fled in her black cadillac seville. and police have recovered the car but not the suspects. scary moments for a convenience store clerk. robbers armed with pistols rush in. and one robber fired off a shot. >> police were able to catch up with the two teens and they both facing charges. bill shields is live in hyannis. >> reporter: sadly it's not unusual to hear about a convenience store being robbed. but it's unusual to hear that they pulled a gun. the robber pulled a gun and fired a round right in back of the clerk. >> it is a little scary. that's a different element. >> reporter: if police say it was scary. imagine you're this clerk.
