to deal with here. >> reporter: they canvas the house. they are searching for the men responsible for holding a 70- year-old woman up at knife point inside her own home. >> they held a knife to her throat, were demanding money and the location of a safe. and there was no safe. >> police say 23 masked men -- three masked men tied her up with duct tape and left with and call police. >> maybe they can trace the car. >> it's very troubling. this doesn't happen in the town of sterling. we live next door to princeton. crime is affecting the small communities in central massachusetts. >> that was chantee lans reporting. a bad crash on route 44

involved in this crash. a highway safety truck. police don't know if any were injured but the cars with badly damaged. all the lanes are open. we do have a crew heading to the scene. and we'll bring you new information as soon as we get it. police have cited a driver after a crash involving a fire truck. the driver of the suv didn't stop for the fire truck which was rushing to five people were hurt, four of them firefighters. the good news is that everyone will be okay. the woman accused of hitting a trick or treat erhas lost her license -- at least for now. she hit the 4-year-old on marshall avenue. the woman got out, looked at the child, talked to a few people at the scene and then got back in the car and left. a witness followed the car. and the police took the 27-year- old into custody.

from surgery. tonight a spirit of a different kind found in a walpole child's halloween candy. >> this was no ghost, it was a nip of vodka. police are warning parents to check kids' candy. >> reporter: good evening. police were telling us if you go by the look of the bottle, there was a green apple on the label. and they said it was very easy for a kid candy. and that's why they went door to door, giving parents a heads up. >> it's pretty sad to think somebody would do that. >> ghosts and goblins --s, the usually suspects. last night in walpole, a 6-year- old discovered a spirit designated for adults. >> they found this bottle of alcohol that was inside with all of the rest of the candy.

sweets was this mini bottle of smirnov green apple vodka. she found it especially hard to believe that this bottle came from her street. >> it's a small street and we're all very close. we all know each other. and it comes as surprise to me. >> walpole police made the gave out the nip. >> if it was in a bowl of candy and someone put it in the bowl and the child took it out. we don't know how it happened. but somewhere along the line, someone had ill intent. >> reporter: and police are citing this as a prime example of why parents need to go through the candy after halloween. they fully intend to find whoever ended up putting that

and the investigation does continue this evening. live in walpole, nick giovanni, wbz news. day two in the books, but the switch to electronic tolling seems to be going off without a hitch. you can see cars moves at a normal clip for the evening commute. the massachusetts department of transportation says they are ahead of schedule right now. more than half of the toll booths have been demolished. and by the way, the is up and running. the countdown is on after a long election season. we are a week from election day in the race for the white house. and governor baker has made up his mind not to vote for anyone for president. >> i said months ago that i didn't think donald trump had the temperament. and i thought hillary clinton had believablity issues.

every time a new charter opens, it takes money away from the regular public schools from students like mine. massachusetts schools already lose 400 million a year to charters and question two means we'll lose even more. we've got to stop taking from the 96 percent of kids who don't attend a charter school. if you believe every child deserves a great public

hampshire. happening near ermer road. you can see what appear to be investigators and three vehicles involved in the crash. we have just learned in the last 10 seconds one person has been killed in the crash. we were told that med flight responded to the scene. route111 is closed in both directions. also here at 6:00 tonight. a major fire has left a local foundation wishing for christmas miracle. flames destroying thousands of gifts meant for military families. it takes all year to stock up for the annual christmas party. and with less than two months to christmas. they desperately need our help. paul burton has the story. >> it's all gone. melted, destroyed. >> reporter: he believes in miracles and he's going to need

operation christmas party. the donations have gone up in flames. >> everything, four years worth of work in flames. >> reporter: there are four events a year. for hundreds of military families and their children in december. >> it takes a whole year to collect gifts and give aways, and we do a section for moms and dads. they can take them home and put them under the tree. >> the fire donations he planned to give away from the christmas party. now he has 31 days to pull it off and needs a lot of help. >> we need cash donations to replace the decorations and supplies to pull the party off. we need toys, we need stocking stuffers. >> and while time is running out. don hopes the season of giving

in the city of boston we see the first snowflakes in the month of november. odds favor inland areas, the farther north and west you go, the better chance of seeing snowfall. out there tonight. temps back in the 40s now as the sun sets. and we look to the west. and unbelievable warmth continues across much of the middle of the country. minneapolis is at 60. world series game six, i think they maced that in cleveland? ev still in the 70s at this hour. a fabulous night for baseball.

look to the southwestern horizon great season for night sky viewing. a warm front will be moving across the area. and brightening skies. tomorrow is the pick of the week. this will be the day. up in the 60s during the afternoon. and a southwesterly breeze and nice mild feel. a little bit of a bonus day for the month of november. taunton up to 68 degrees. portsmouth hitting 63. and i wouldn't be shocked if a few on thursday, a little change. the warm front is going to back in a little bit. and for the morning, we start cool and always with cloud cover. and then it starts to nudge farther north as we head to the afternoon. there'll be a big temperature difference across the area. i think most of the day is going to be in the 40s and 50s. much cooler the farther north

of showers and downpours for the afternoon and evening. that's going to leave us with a blustery and colder day. and it's going to feel chillier with the winds. a quiet and cool saturday and then on sunday an ocean storm tries to develop. this is going to be a little too far east to bring us significant rain. we might get a sprinkle or a northern new england. on saturday night we set the clocks back an hour. daylight saving time will come to an end. and next week a chance for milder air to try to work back in with 60s by tuesday. the mayflower two, a historic replica of the ship that carried pilgrims to our shores is getting a facelift.
