news boston, this has wbz news at 5:30. millions of people deciding the future of america. the polls all across the country are packed. and the people know every vote can make a difference. i'm paula evans, >> and i'm david wade. >> the candidates are holding their parties a mile and a half from >> the clinton camp is manhattan. and donald trump at the new york hilton. we have team coverage for both. leah martin is live in manhattan. >> hillary clinton and her motorcade are on their way at this time. donald trump will make his way to his event in manhattan shortly. and this morning they spent their time calling into radio shows and trying to tell the

and they voted themselves. donald trump voting here in manhattan. we have video of that. he was alongside his wife melania, along with the rest of his family. he was cheered and booed as he exited his motorcade. he is expected to lose manhattan. >> and hillary clinton her vote this morning in chap a quarter. >> and there's little doubt about the outcome. hillary clinton has a 20 point edge in the state but both sides will be anxiously watching the national results tonight. and we have -- live in braintree with the trump camp there tonight. >> reporter: and as you mentioned with this state expected to go to clinton, massachusetts trump volunteers

new hampshire. they've spent much of the day up there today. and they've been calling other states on behalf of the trump campaign. and as we know. governor charlie baker was not supporting trump even though trump took 50% of the vote in the primary. party members were supposed to be here earlier but they are staying in new hampshire longer where the race is tighter. the state is set here in braintree for what is being billed as trump's massachusetts campaign victory party. the republicans themselves have billed this more as a place for the party's faithful to get together as there's no republican contested state race. those four electoral votes in new hampshire so key. how is clinton's camp feeling?

in boston with a massachusetts democrat. >> this is where some of the massachusetts democrats will be gathering as the polls close and the numbers start to come in. and it was a busy day for clinton supporters, we visited some of them as volunteers were working the phones and canvassing. volunteers tell me just because the support is there for their candidate doesn't mean everyone will take the time to go out and fill out the ba among democrats that one vote might not be all that urgent. >> it is a little last minute but there's plenty of people that may not be thinking about voting and they need to get out there and do it. >> we look for the designated voters, and make sure they voted. if they have not, we call them and make sure that they are going to and ask them if they need a ride.

vote out up until the end. >> reporter: that was a group of volunteers in newton. there are groups like that all over new england working even at the last minute. and they are sending busloads and carloads up to new hampshire with the idea that that state and its four votes could make a bigger impact on this race. we expect to see some massachusetts democrats throughout the night. and we'll be ta as the night unfolds. live at the copley plaza hotel, wbz news. >> no complacency. the clinton and trump rallies will begin. and we might have a good sense of where the race is going by 8:30 or 9:00 tonight. the polls in the state of florida start closing at 7:00.

an edge we might have a sense that this will be a tough hill for donald trump to climb. if it's close in florida, we might have a long night ahead. live in new york city, i'm liam martin, wbz news. charlie baker has been extremely vocal about his choice not to vote in the presidential race but he took an active role in the state races. and he voting all together. >> look, everybody gets to make their own decision with respect to how they want to respond on election day. and we had a million who turned out before election day. and based on the lines, it's going to be a big turnout day in massachusetts. and for me, the most important thing is that people get out and exercise their constitutional opportunity.

in the charter school question and he's against recreational marijuana. new hampshire's votes are key for hillary clinton and donald trump. and some voters wait until the last minute to decide who to cast their ballots for. nick giovanni is live with that part of our coverage. >> reporter: and 85 minutes to go before polls close in manchester. and some of the decisions have yet to be made voters making their way to the polling location, adding to numbers already flirting with records. ballot boxes were humming in new hampshire tuesday as a steady stream of voters lined up across the granite state. many feeling a sense of relief that election day had arrived. >> i woke up this morning saying thank god it's election day. it's been a long haul. >> blocks away from where

trump made the final stops in new hampshire in the final hours of the campaign. thousands stopped to cast their votes in manchester, having made up their mind about who should be the next commander in chief. >> when they get through, they are informed students. >> he's not a politician. hillary, all the others have been in there forever and haven't done sides. >> and at 89 years young, she's cast a ballot in every presidential election since she was 18 and never saw the day coming she'd get to vote for a woman. >> it's going to settle my mind that this country is going to come to a place where everyone can work together. if anyone can bring the

>> reporter: and as you can see by the line that's still growing, election night is far from over in manchester. as far as voter turnout is concerned. officials believe the numbers will likely surpass those of 2012 at this location. at 9:45 this morning, they surpassed the numbers of the entire primary. nick giovanni, wbz news. someone intimidate voters at a college in maine. and the governor is taking heat for backing the controversial claims. someone put up flyers at bates college. the flyers said students would have to register their cars instate in order to vote. >> it's just a little upsetting that someone is trying to make students not vote.

a splash landing. the pilot of this ultra light plane managed to get out alive. and the faa is investigating after the plane crashed into the river. jim smith has th wing in the front here which is what they are getting out now. >> crews work to retrieve what's left of a plane that crashed into the river. >> apparently, he wasn't climbing well. and he ended up there. they saw him go by and heard a splash, and then he was swimming to shore. so that's the good news.

airplane. and you're only cold and wet, that's good news. >> any time an aircraft crashes into water, it's a big problem. when it came to rescuing the pilot. every minute counted. >> fire crews scrambled, joining a civilian working in a nearby hanger. the pilot made it partially to shore and still needed help. >> we couldn't life. we put on the cold water rescue suit and i went in and started swimming towards the airplane. >> we loaded him in the canoe and made him as comfortable as possible. and got him back to the shore. >> the pilot was taken to the clinic with non-life- threatening injuries. the cause of the crash is under investigation. >> the coast guard rushed to the rescue after two boats

coast of block island. when a yacht and a lobber the boat collided, the yacht started sinking. a person was pulled out of a burning home in brookline and rushed to the hospital. firefighters rushed to the home about 3:30 this morning. one firefighter did suffer a minor back injury fighting the fire. investigators are trying to fi and a broken water main caused big problems for the beginning of the morning commute and traffic is now back to normal. you could be saving money on your utility bill this winter. coming up at 6:00. a closer look at what this election could mean in the years to come. the lasting effect today's vote

after waiting in long lines to vote today, hundreds of people went on to wait in another very long line -- to visit the grave of susan anthony. they are all there paying their respects to the leader of the women's suffrage movement. i voted tickets cover the tombstone. there's a station there with a live feed of their camera. and it is remarkable to see how many hundreds and hundreds of people are filing by. >> did i read that's a tradition. it's not just this year. >> i don't think it's just this

control. >> it's perfect weather for waiting outside. a lot of people waiting up to three hours. >> you know what struck my attention? the fact that the foliage was ongoing in rochester, new york. i want to share a picture i took. it was gorgeous, gorgeous in christopher columbus park. i went for a stroll after voting. it's so quiet. the streets today. everyone is at a polling station maybe hiding. but peak foliage. and i compared pictures to this time last year. and i took about that same picture 10 days earlier last year. the foliage coming 10 days later than last year. and we have the drought. it's been an unusual season. a lot of the oaks are putting on the best color right now. and it's the secondary peak of foliage season. temperatures in the low 50s.

across the board, and we're watching the next front approach. a band of rain showers from buffalo and moving into rochester. and towards memphis, and the clouds will start increasing and then we see the rain showers arrive by tomorrow morning. with the increase in cloud cover not as cold. in the mid-30s to low 40s for the most part. and not talking about freezing temperatures across the region. tomorrow morning, mainly cloudy skies, an the interior and temps in the 40s. for midday, more scattered showers and a little bit of patchy fog. and we're well up in the 50s. and as we head through the afternoon, the winds start to turn around to north and west. and the showers in far southeastern massachusetts. and especially towards cape cod, the south coast, and the islands. and highs well in the 50s to around 60.

and cooler towards central mass mainly in the 50s. ups and downs but nothing major. everyone sees less than a quarter inch of rain. thursday is cool and bright. and friday an isolated shower. we'll get into the mid- 50s and a sharp cooldown friday afternoon and evening. an arctic front will be moving through. that's going to pick up the northwesterly winds, and the same type of weather will be but not unusual for heading to mid-november. and of course, we have cold days as we look to the end of autumn. and by sunday the cold air is pulling out. the other story here is that outside of a couple of rain showers tomorrow and a sprinkle on saturday, over the next seven days, this is rainfall from the east. and there's very little coming. the gains that we saw in
