live from the chant 4 studios in boston wbz news starts now with breaking news. >> a historic meeting president president elect donald trump now in washington where he is talking with president obama at the white house. there were trump's arrival at 1600 pennsylvania avenue this morning. he'll spend some time with president obama before meeting with lawmakers. good afternoon, everybody. >> thanks for joining us. we could get a glimpse in a few minutes when cameras are allowed. >> president obama has promised to smooth transition of power come january when donald trump takes over as commander-in-chief, and we're

trump and his wife are meeting with the president and first lady right now at the white house. the plane touched down around 10:30 this morning. the motorcade arrived at pennsylvania avenue just before 11 a.m., 2 days after trump was named president elect and months of the 2 butting heads. president obama did call trump to congratulate him following the election. lasted about 1 minute. it's unclear how long this meeting will last or how easily they are able to make amends and lead by example for the 2 parties that really clashed this campaign season to come together, somewhat unified just as they are urging the american people to do. this is more of a symbolic meeting between the president and their wives. this

mike pence is set to meet with the vice president biden as well. trump's transition team is already at work. they've debuted a new website, it includes an application process for people looking to join trump's transition team and unveiled a new twitter handle residing the latest updates and news. from california, new york with the election outcome took to the streets last night and tonight we can expect even more. we're live in boston with this story. . >> reporter: people who are upset with the results of the election are planning an anti-trump rally right here in front of the state house later this afternoon. this follows a massive protest of about 5,000

the presidential election may be over but the bitter feeling could still be felt wednesday night. . >> not our president. >> reporter: thousands of people angry with the outcome marched through the streets of boston. >> i am not satisfied i am not impressed with the selection as a latino, as a woman, someone who is brown i cannot feel safe right now. >> reporter: they chanted and boston mayor trying to quell some of their fears. >> we're going to protect the immigrants in our state. >> reporter: hillary clinton won the blue state of massachusetts but lost the electoral count. some say it's time to accept those results and move forward together. >> let's support him and hope he gets us where he says he'll get us. >> the mayor is encouraging

we get them. more breaking news to tell you about this time in worcester state police arrested 2 suspects wanted for a carjacking and stabbing. authorities say 2 people were stabbed during the carjacking in connecticut. police began chasing the suspects on 395. during the chase police say the driver tried to ram 2 of its cruisers and when they were cornered here in worcester the driver drove cruiser, a man and woman are now in custody. and breaking news in boston 4 people under arrest for chaining themselves to a td bank in downtown. police say they were at the bank protesting the dakota oil pipeline. turning to the weather now a crisp fall day, the sun is out but, of course, as always changes are on the way. >> what can we expect for the

>> it's a pretty nice afternoon out there. temperatures a little bit chilly if you are stepping outside maybe headed towards lunch only 49 degrees, feels like 47 with that wind. not too bad about 6 knots out of the west and looks like we'll have temperatures this afternoon getting into the lower 50. you can see we're approaching that 50-degree mark. mount washington a chilly 25 but not as cold as they have been so far this fall appeared temperatures in the 40s spine of the green and white mountains. as we go through the afternoon hours we're looking at temperatures getting into the lower 50s right around give or take a degree or 2 and falling back slowly tonight. we have even more changes coming up and i'll talk about the forecast for tomorrow and the weekend coming right up. reading police are investigating a string of bold break-ins, 3 homes have been hit in the last 12 days all

all 3 cases jewelry was stolen. police are urging people to lock your home and your car. developing right now at noon a pennsylvania police officer killed in an ambush. 2 officers were calmed out to a domestic incident in a town near pittsburgh this morning. as soon as they arrived the officers were shot. one of those officers like we said died the other was rushed to a pittsburgh hospital. swat teams were seen outside 2 homes there but so far a suspect has not been identified. schools in the area werese are searching off the coast, they are looking for 3 men who vanished on a fishing trip. the crews will be looking at the sunken boat spotted during yesterday's search. 3 men were last seen putting in their boat at the sandwich marina for a fishing trip. friends say all 3 are experienced on the water but still could have hit conditions

sexually assaulted a drunk man month was placed in protective custody on halloween. investigators say the act was caught on cameras. his attorney says the encounter was con sense wall. the officer's wife by the way is the chief of police in salem. >> the reflection of, you the alleged actions of one person shouldn't reflect badly upon the department and the officers that were working every day to do their job. . >> the chief is taking a voluntary leave and asking for privacy. her husband has been put on paid administrative leave. the owners involved in a deadly men guys outbreak have been subpoenaed for financial crimes. the majority owner of the new england compounded center was sentenced yesterday

evacuations are underway after a number of people started feeling dizzy. what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, employees here at the brookline animal hospital said they were feeling light headed this morning sos as a precaution the manager tells me she called in the brookline fire department. crews have been here for about 40 minutes trying to determine what's going on but have not been able to find any source. so a level one hazmat has been ordered and these teams are expected to

10 to 12 employees were inside with several animals. brookline says if necessary they will bring in a temporary pen to hold onto them. none of the employees wanted to go to the hospital. no one reported smelling anything so that's why the hazmat team will come in and try to figure out something with the ventilation, perhaps something with the equipment but the manager says once the employees came outside they did start to feel better. starting tonight anyone who takes the needham commuter rail will have to take another line. it will be suspended starting tonight until monday morning. alternate bussing will not be provided. the mbta is asking commuters to find another way to get back and forth from work tonight and tomorrow or use the parallel bus routes.

website cbsboston.com. and there is some good news for come nighters the first phase of the toll booth demolition on the mass pike will be completed today. phase 2 is already starting the holidays are coming and as you know that can be a tough time for travel but officials hope electronic tolling will make things go more smoothly. >> we know even now that we have a system that is saver and more convenient and by the end of next year when all of will literally look as though they were never ever toll booths on the mass pike. >> throughout the demolition and road construction process crews will use 230,000 tons of pavement, that's enough to pave 160 miles of roadway and they'll excavate enough dirt to fill 27,000 dump trucks. if you line them up they would stretch 128 miles. now, to a special delivery on the cape. >> twins born a half an hour

the second twin was actually older than the first because they were born on sunday when daylight saving time ended. so samuel came out at 1:39 a.m. but his brother ronan who was born after the time change his official birth time is 1:10 a.m. instead of 2:10 a.m. so they'll be fighting over who is the older brother probably for the rest of their lives. >> and literally telling that storyor lives. all right. well it's a fairly nice day out there, a little bit chilly. >> good afternoon, and it is a little bit chilly out there but also november, and it's expected to be chilly but a lot of sunshine and the drought does roll on. no significant rain ahead. the next even chance i see of rain gets us some time into next week, but that's just a chance, and that would be towards maybe wednesday or thursday. and that far out, you know, it can change and disappear.

you have of evergreen plants in your garden probably want to give them a nice drink over the next couple weeks before the grouped freezes. it's going to be a chilly start to the week ends. we'll be up near 60 degrees by monday. one good thing is that the leaves are nice and dry so you can kind of rake them easily. temperatures at this hour mostly in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees. i'll widen the shoot out a mild air back towards the west, chicago, saint lewis temperatures in the lower 60s, upper 50s and that's headed in our direction here briefly tomorrow before we get another cool down on saturday. tomorrow morning about 45 degrees not as chilly as it was this morning, a bit breezy sun up at about 6:31. that means at about 6:05 you can kind of get around outside without necessarily a lot of light and temperatures tomorrow about 55 degrees, a gusty wind,

but look at this winds 50 to 25 plus an over the waters a small craft advisory depending where you are out over the waters and it's going to fall pretty quickly with that colder air rushing in. temperature of 44 and the wind still gusty. so if you're waiting for public transportation tomorrow or walking around the buildings in boston you're definitely going to feel quite chilly with that wind, wind chills will be down in the 30s, even upper 20s by 10:00 tomorrow evening. before the temperatures fall down and then the wind kick in and that ushers in that one day shot of colder air for the day on saturday. so the cold air is going to come down from canada, it's going to rush in pretty quickly for tomorrow as we have that northwesterly flow. the cold air comes in and out of here and then we get back into warmer weather later on in the week. let's check the 7 days

breaking news police say a 14-year old girl was grabbed this happened this morning. police say a man grabbed the girl from behind threw her to the ground and grabbed her by the neck, another person came to the girl's rescue. the good news she was not hurt. patriots tight end is taking it back to the '80s for a brand new video. just call him gronk jovi.
