live from the channel 4 studios in boston, this is wbz news at 5:30. >> now at 5:30, a weather alert. a storm headed our way. and combined with the super moon and the king tides that come with it. some areas could see some flooding. >> the biggest concern is the coast. eric fisher is here with a closer look. >> the storm is not a particularly powerful one but we'll see some areas flood us starting to work up the coastline. and some of the rain will evaporate. we're not expecting showers to reach us until tomorrow morning. and there's the culprit, the super moon. mary sent this in from rock port. the highest annual tides, highest astronomical tides basically. easterly winds for tomorrow so

coastal flooding. it's about an hour that the water will be high. and areas that fill up with a storm coming in are the most prone. we'll see localized road closures and water up over the wharves in boston. you'll notice the water coming up over the walls. very high water and this is not a significantly powerful storm. it's been a really dry november so far. we'll talk about the rain it to pick up in intensity coming up in a little bit. hate crime concerns in a neighborhood. a man receiving threatening letters with racial slurs. >> one was handwritten and the other typed. do investigators think the same person sent these letters? >> police are not specifics or

potential hate crime. neighbors are scratching their heads, trying to figure out who is behind all this. >> to have this happen kind of shook us. and we're feeling insecure, just heartbroken. >> reporter: residents on this street in natick are upset after their neighbor received several threatening letters. >> that's pretty bad if it's true. >> we've been on this street like this has happened before. >> reporter: the neighbors allegedly written by another neighbor warn the man to stop bringing people of color to his home. police are investigating the incident as a potential hate crime. >> based on the threats in the racial slurs it would fit the

the safety and security and that every resident feels safe in this community. >> we're so sad that this happened to this gentleman. and we just wanted as a neighborhood to come out and say it's not what we feel. >> police presence on monday was noticeable on maple street as investigators went door to door in search of clues. speaking with residents who know little but certain of one thing that the letters letters are not indicative of the neighborhood's values. >> the notes were signed from the neighbors. these are not from the neighbors. >> police are taking the threatening letters seriously, and they hope anyone with information will come forward. wbz news, back to you. controversy surrounding one of the first major appointments by president-elect donald

all seems beautiful to me. fast moving fire lighting up the sky north of los angeles. this fire started early this morning. it began as a quarter acre and

minutes. no word on evacuations or injuries. cracked highways and damaged buildings all across new zealand after a massive earthquake. the military sending in helicopters and a navy ship to rescue tourists stranded. the 7.8 quake killed two people and caused a small tsunami. caught on camera -- a package thief. the couple put this video online in a private facebook group to report thieves and crime in their city. and within minutes, people identified the thief. less than 24 hours later, the package magically returned. >> oops, that was yours? the cameras are so high def. it's not the blurry image any more. >> we might get some flooding. >> remember in october we had

towards rhode island, the south coast, and areas south of boston. by midday, we're seeing areas of rainfall move in. and maybe a rumble of thunder in the afternoon. and then it tapers off to drizzle and lighter showers, and clouds will linger all the way to wednesday morning. the wind is very light. and then the wind starts to move around and turn easterly. the storm is moving quickly and the winds are not terribly strong and they don't have a wave action on top of this or pile up the water. the easterly winds are there through the afternoon. and by tomorrow evening. the center of the low pressure is moving up across the area and the winds will change direction and they'll head offshore by winds. the tides will be lower. here's a look at the high tide timing for tomorrow morning. a little after 11 a.m. coastal flood warnings are out

out. and an hour on either side of high tide. more see boulevard, search at harbor -- scituate harbor. and more high tides around eastern massachusetts. nantucket. rainfall a half inch to 1 inch of total rain. temperatures in so a cooler day, considering we won't have the sunshine. after that we dry out and mild weather continues. well up into the 50s. on saturday is where we start to bring in cooler air as the storm system approaching from the west. we stay dry to kick off the weekend. and notice the wedge of on shore winds will keep us in the 50s. and sunday we bring about more significant changes. right now looks like a lot of

storm watch weather alert. we're tracking rain moving in and the return of the king tide. and threatening to flood areas along the coast. with the rain and the high tides, we could see trouble in certain communities. >> to make sure you have the information you need, we've launched the first ever weather alert today. >> so this is a program that we're going to use to basically give you a heads up when something is heading our weather, something that's going to bring a significant impact to the area. and tomorrow is one of those days. the super moon brings the king tides. the super moon is when the moon is closer in orbit to the earth. and the gravitational pull is stronger due to the alignment of the sun. a weak coastal storm is coming up the coastline. and that's bringing on shore

with no on shore winds. mainly focused around a late morning and midday. here's a look at the high tide times. areas like hampton saw a lot of water inundation in october. you can likely expect that tomorrow. boston's high tide is 11:08. some of the walkways will fill up with places like more see boulevard may have to shut down. scituate harbor is another place that could see flooding. moving up the coast, you can see the winds, and they'll be turning on shore. showers begin by the morning. and areas of rainfall continue midday and into the afternoons. locally heavy downpours and a rumble of thunder. we'll take look at the timing coming up after that.
