it's a milestone birthday for a local coffee company. new england coffee just turned 100. >> and one of the best workers is 90% of the way to the century mark. slowing down is not his cup tea. roasting, cooling, and packaging beans. there's a lot of people working hard at new england coffee in malden. but we found the boss is on long coffee break. >> oh, i'm only 90. >> joking about his age and sipping coffee. you might think it would make him un-productive. but he's the straw that stirs the company's coffee.

up. >> i preferred milk to coffee. >> reporter: he started liking coffee in the navy and when he got out in 1946 he took over for the founder of new england coffee, his dad. >> my father said steve, you got to come to work 'cause i'm not well. and you got to replace me. >> reporter: seven decades later, his job now is quality control. >> consistency is key. >> reporter: he and two coworkers are in charge of cupping he calls it >> sip and spit. >> they are making sure the beans meet the standards. every day at this table is something she'd like to package. >> i feel honored to have had a chance to work with -- and especially being trained by him. he's my mentor so not only in coffee but in life. >> after working full-time for 70 years, sometimes 60 hours a

country, it's very quiet and very, very warm. 70s and 80s. 80s all the way up to nebraska. and we have a shot of the 60s returning for parts of the area. tonight, upper 50s to low 40s. mainly clear skies develop ask overnight lows, 36 to 41 for us. about 43 in downtown boston. tomorrow mostly sunny skies an cumulus clouds mixing in. and chilly in the morning. and pleasant for midday and the afternoon. well in the 50s with a northwesterly breeze and the sunset is 4:20 p.m. in the 52 to 58-degree range and a nice day to be outdoors. warmer on friday but it will be dependent on where you are. we're watching the ocean storm and how close it comes. the closer it comes to the

likelihood that the clouds can get across far eastern massachusetts. if the storm trends farther east, many of us will be in the 60s. we'll be certainly warmer weather and brighter skies as you work into central and western new england. there's a better chance of cloudiness on saturday across cape cod and far eastern parts of the state. and look at that slice, th well up in the 50s to around 60. the idea is warmer to the west and cooler to the east. and windier on the coast. and overall not a bad start to the weekend. and sunday here comes the next storm system and that's going to bring showers, more wind and colder temperatures in the day. join ugh at faneuil hall. and if not watch here on channel four. temperatures in the 40s and there might be mist of drizzle

actual rain. it won't be cold or warm, kind of in between. and here comes the cold shot of air. it brings with it the rain showers. the winds will kick up and temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s by monday. with the change, you can see some smoke flakes in the air late sunday and into monday morning. i don't think it will be a significant accumulation. just a chilly start week. >> just a reminder. traffic was moving slowly in new hampshire when a herd of cows took a walk on 93 in canterbury. they broke through a farm fence minutes earlier. and they were safely returned to the farm. >> we really milk some of these stories for punch. coming up in june, the first ever dr. seuss museum
