suddenly lost control of a power saw with fatal results. a coworker saw it all happen. >> i saw -- the saw jammed on him and kicked back, and got him in the throat and, you know, he stumbled and went down and we tried to do everything we could to, you know, stop the bleeding until the paramedics arrived. >> reporter: his fellow worker dying in a construction hole right next to him, he did everything he could. >> i ripped off my jacket and my safety vest and i s cut was and i tried to just apply pressure. we kept him up right, tried to keep the flood from coming out. >> reporter: paramedics rushed the 28-year-old victim to the hospital but he later died. >> obviously chaotic. he was down in the trench. there was a bit of extrication that had to be involved getting him into -- on a backboard and getting him up out of the trench so we could get him in the ambulance.

will be investigated by osha and other agencies. a gruesome workplace tragedy only days before thanksgiving. >> you do what you've got to do, you know, somebody is there dying in front of you, what are you going to do? >> reporter: the trench where that pipe was being laid and being cut has now been filled in. the investigation is underway as of late saturday night, the victim's name had not been released pending notification of his family. in duxbury, jim smith, wbz this morning. c man for a hit-and-run of an elderly woman. 25-year-old arnold hernandez of lip was arrested on an unrelated warrant. police are charging him with several crimes relating to the accident, including driving without a license. the 72-year-old woman suffered cuts and bruises to her head. is a bra dipping company has issued a voluntary recall of some of its hummus and spreads because of listeria contamination. the fda receives the affected

well, out of the ashes, a lancaster turkey farm rebounding after a devastating fire. for a while, it looked like bob's turkey farm wouldn't survive. but thanks to hard work and a lot of help, the farm is booming once again, just in time for thanksgiving. >> reporter: it's the busiest time of the year at bob's. thanksgiving tables. leaving about 1,000 with a reprieve until christmas. >> we've -- we love it. >> reporter: the family-owned farm opened back in 1954. and today, the refrigerators are stuffed with fresh turkeys waiting for next week's rush. but after last summer's barn fire, the thanksgiving season was in jeopardy.

the fire. most of them were thanksgiving turkeys. >> reporter: richard and sue are brother and sister. their father built the farm. the fire changed everything. >> it was devastating. didn't know what was going to happen. >> reporter: what happened sur surprised both of them. >> didn't surround us and give us the support that they did give us, i'm not sure what we would have done. >> a lot of people came and helped clean up the nests and some people came and helped rebuild. >> reporter: money was donated >> a lost people you wouldn't think would do that but they did. >> reporter: you can still see the charred posts but the barn is mostly rebuilt and the stock is growing and that means, happy customers. >> it's honestly the freshest turkey that we have ever had. >> reporter: next thursday, the farm family will give thanks with you guessed it, turkey. >> turkey of course. >> that was paula evan reporting. while selling 6,000 turkeys

saw with fatal results. a coworker saw it all happen. >> i saw -- the saw jammed on him and kicked back and got him in the throat and, you know, he stumbled and went down and we tried to do everything we could to, you know, stop the bleeding until the paramedics arrived. >> his fellow worker dying in i aconstruction hole right next to him. he did everything he could. >> i ripped off my jacket and my safety vest and i stuffed it into his throat where the was and i tried to just apply pressure. we kept him upright, tried to keep the blood from coming out. >> reporter: paramedics rushed the 28-year-old victim to the hospital but he later died. >> obviously chaotic. he was down in the trench. there was a bit of extrication that had to be involved getting him into -- on a backboard and getting him up out of the street so we can get him in the ambulance. >> reporter: authorities worked into the night, the accident

we are saying no dogs but he is reactive. once he meets them, he is oddly not interested anymore. so best as an only dog although we would not rule out a companion maybe. in terms of people, he is afraid of people he does not know at first when they come into the home or if they get too close to him. until he trust you. there you go, buddy. so we arson for that reason, no small children. an adult only home because it is more quiet and steady. he does really well meeting people out in the driveway on the leash. it is not as scary as them walking in the home and that kind of thing. i have a ton of information on that. for the person he is good with calm he is quiet, clean, crate trained and housetrained and a super mellow dog. he will hike with you. but if you want to hang out, he

good morning. thank you for joining us. somewhat like -- as you know, we pretaped the segment in advance, in this case on friday which happens to be the eve of the first installment of an ongoing discussion of race in the city of boston. initiated by and i guess moderated by our guest of this morning, boston mayor mayor -- marty walsh. welcome. >> thank you. >> it is hard to talk about what is going to happen at an event that has not occurred but by the time this occurred. what you expect to achieve? >> really what we are going to do on saturday -- we are going to begin the conversation about how we are going to frame of the race conversation in the city of boston. it is something that i heard it during the campaign when i was running in 2013, something that we have been building towards in the first couple of years of my administration. we have had conversations around the neighborhood. what we are going to be doing on saturday is going to be talking about how we're going to be going out into the neighborhood that having these

we are looking at -- it came out of the conversation that happened during the campaign of a woman who questioned me on what i thought of races of in the city of boston and the state of racism in boston and i stumbled on the answer. we went back and said we need to raise the dialogue. >> let me start the dialogue a little bit early have you directly addressed the hundreds of black and latino families in boston who came to a decision that their children were receiving inferior education in the public schools that they were attended? ed -- they went out of their way to get on the waiting list to get into a offer a better opportunity. but they are now. -- not going to get that opportunity because you and other opponents are lifting -- you prevailed on election day. why don't you speak to them? >> they are going to get the

>> there are hundreds of people on the waiting list. >> there are thousands. one of the things about the ballot question that was on the ballot last tuesday is that the aggressiveness of at raising up to 12 schools per year into the future -- i felt that there does it was aggressive. there is a way that should be done in the legislature and there needs to be funding but that question last tuesday -- question 2 -- it was not a question against charter schools but it was against a lifting the capital city of boston. i made it perfectly clear that i support charter schools and parochial schools and i support private schools. i support our boston public school system. we should not be putting scol that question -- that ballot question was not saying that we want to get rid of charter schools in the city boston. i think it is contrary. we have some of the best charter schools in our city and i think the people need to understand -- what i'm saying is that we need elected officials and hopefully the legislature will be able to address this issue paws -- properly -- 12 schools is to aggressive and i think it would have heard the charter school movement and the boston public schools. there was not a mechanism for

families are out of luck. >> in the meantime the families have an opportunity to go to our schools. >> but they have already judged that it is in severe -- in fear. >> i would not say it is inferior. >> why are they applied to a charter school? >> they are looking at options. >> why do they want to pursue options? >> you have some families that have kids in parochial school, charter schools and public schools. it is based on some of and the schools for different reasons but i would not say that i would not discredit -- again, this feeds into the argument of -- it is charter school versus public schools but it is all one -- it is really one system and we have to approve all of them. >> we have to take a break, but you have been a staunch supporter of charter schools. >> i am in the a board member. >> they do great work.

the teachers association particularly under the leadership hates charter schools and sees them as an existential threat to the union. if they thought that they could get away with it they would like to wipe out charter schools. what is your message? >> the wrong way to go. when i talk about adults putting schools and could against each other, don't do it i am a strong union supporter and i am a union member but i am also a very proud supporter of charter schools. >> okay. we will take a break and consider -- continue our conversation with boston mayor marty walsh in just a moment. please stay with us. at fallon health we realize that no matter where you are in life

between you and governor charlie baker? >> we are okay. we are back. >> you were on the same site in question for mac appearing the marijuana but you were opponents on question 2. >> we had a disagreement. >> a few weeks ago you were part of the commons unit, anti- privatization rally where you characterize baker as mom -- modest efforts to restore financial order and confidence to some areas that need them as a, quote, fix on th working people. what is that about? >> you cannot do that but i have had conversation. >> you cannot do privatization? >> it is not going to work. by taking an entire bus transit system and putting it on the street because in the long run -- >> that is not what he is proposing. >> you mentioned privatization. >> it is changing the whole scheme of what happens at business.

that has been privatized and the first contract is beneficial to the commonwealth, city, government and the next one is -- it blows out of control but i think there's an agreement to be made. i think that i have had conversations with the governor and i've talked to the head of the community. i think -- i encourage both sides to stay at the table and work through this and come up with compromises that work in the long term even though workers -- they need a fix because they need -- to preserve their jobs so there has to be -- there is middle ground somewhere and i hope and i think that they will get to it. >> you consider what the baker administration has on the table now as far as privatization to be talking about privatization, it is a big word and it has been -- it has been unclear what that means but i think it has been blow to the point where people are fearful of basically taking the system in place today, moving people out and bringing in a new system. i do not think that is on the table.

election there is a lot -- as always, a lot of soul-searching by democrats, seth maltin, for congressman has joined other voices and calling for a shakeup of the house democratic leadership. we just elected a new state party chairman in the massachusetts democratic party. in your view, what is wrong with the democratic party? >> i think what is wrong with the system is -- in washington dc is that the republicans and democrats need to think about bipartisanship and a lot of this backlash was felt on the inability for congress and the senate and washington to get things done but i think th sides is too much and i think the american people are frustrated. i think that people does you talked about the romance -- people like the fact that that we get along and we talk. we might have disagreements --
