. good morning. thanks for joining: i'm kate merrill. >>and i'm chris mckinnon. breaking overnight a series of similar attacks on police ac a mother of four dies following a fight outside a party. we're hearing from the victim's family as police open an apparent murder investigation. a boat taking on water and highs winds and waves with a rescue off the coast of massachusetts. and it feels like winter this morning. >>we had some snow falling overnight. there's actually been some accumulation in spots. let's check in with danielle niles for a look at what we can

suspect was also shot and has died. the officer is expected to be okay. this was the 4th officer shot in less than 24 hours. a man hunt is under way in texas where a police detective was shot and killed while writing a traffic ticket yesterday while sitting in his patrol car. police say a driver pulled up behind him, walked up to the driver's side window and shot the officer in the head. police released a picture of a person of interest. and in st. louis, investigators say a police sergeant was ambushed while sitting in traffic. police say a car if you would along sited cruiser last night and opened -- pulled up alongside the cruiser and opened fire. the suspect was killed in a shoot out with police officers. in florida a police officer was shot while conducting a traffic stop on sanibel island. the officer was in his car when he was hit in the shoulder. the suspect was arrested after a standoff. the officer was treated and released from the

that was the first-ever officer-involved shooting on sanibel island. a mother of four dies after a fight outside a party and police are investigating whether anyone will face charges. nicole jacobs is live with the latest. >> reporter: kate, family members are trying to make sense of the various stories floating around about exactly what happened, but they say whatever happened this mother and grandmother did not deserve to die. gathers to remember a life lost. >>it was like i didn't want to believe it because it didn't seem real. >> reporter: there are many questions surrounding what happened here late saturday night. >>for them to sit there and take her life away over something because an attitude or something, everybody knows these girls. they are a pack of wolves and it's disgusting. >> reporter: this man says his mother was jumped, beaten and

girls. >>first they say she got into a fight and then a car ran her over and then i found out that there was 8 girls hitting my -- jumping a lady and stomping her. >> reporter: the fight started at a party. the district attorney's office confirms the 44-year-old mother and grandmother was asked to leave the party family members say she was with her other son who has downs syndrome. >>the arms and fists were going and i and hit the ground and hearing another voice calling out his mother's name, that he loved her. >> reporter: no one has been arrested for what happened here, but they simply want justice for this woman who died. it appears as though there are several people who know exactly who was involved in the fight, but, again, no arrest at this time. the district attorney's office is investigating. we're live in lowell morning nicole jacobs

this morning. a hit-and-run caught on camera, an elderly woman knocked right to the ground. today the accused driver is heading to court to face charges. let's get out to anna meiler live at the scene in chelsea this morning. >> reporter: and, chris, arrested arnold hernandez on an unrelated warrant over the weekend. this morning he's expected to face charges for allegedly hitting a 72-year-old woman at this intersection and taking off. police say they've tracked down the man behind the wheel of this video hitting a 72-year- old woman walking in a crosswalk knocking her to the ground. >>that's horrible, just tragedy. there's no reason for that to happen. >> reporter: the hit-and-run happened friday morning at the intersection of broadway and 4th treat in chelsea. >>very dangerous on broadway because they don't know how to slow down. it's like a racetrack out here. >> reporter: a witness says the van initially stopped and the woman tried to make sure the driver saw her. >>the car was at the stop sign

. in today's money match apple is dealing with its own smart phone battery issues, although like samsung. apple says it will replace batteries in some 6s models because the phones shut down. the defects only effect a small number of phones manufactured between september and october 2015. toys-r-us as temporarily stopped selling a dump truck after it burst into flames. a family in washington state was taking the toy home when it

are investigate the death of this 44-year-old mother and grandmother. she is identified as gloria arango who witnesses and family members say was jumped by a group of girls, beaten and stabbed. the district attorney's office says she was asked to leave a party. her body was later found outside in the parking lot of an apartment complex. family members say this was a vicious attack that she did deserve. >>for them to sit there and take her life away over something, because an attitude or something, everybody knows these girls. they are a pack of wolves, and it's disgusting. >> reporter: so it is clear there are several people who know who was involved in this fight. again, no arrests have been made at this time, but the district attorney's office is investigating. we're live in lowell, nicole jacobs wbz this morning.

country have been shot in the last 4 hours and there are some -- last 24 hours. in st. louis the police chief says an officer was ambushed while sitting in traffic. three other officers were shot during traffic stops by suspects who just pulled up to the scene. cbs's henna daniels has the latest. >> reporter: the search continues in san tan tone you don't this morning for the man police say shot and killed detective general gentleman min the force. >>when the suspect reached the driver's door he fired a gunshot toward the detective striking him in the head. the suspect reached through the open window and fired a second shot. >> reporter: this was not the only case of an officer being shot in the line of duty in the last 12 hours. a st. louis, missouri, police sergeant is in critical but stable condition in what investigators are calling an ambush.

this one in gladstone a suburb of kansas city. the officer is expected to survive. and in sanibel, florida, outside fort myers, officer jared shikone was shot in the shoulder while sitting in his car. he was treated at the hospital and released. henna daniels, cbs news. a suspect accused of assaulting two boston police officers on boston common is due in court today. the officers were trying to arrest joseph demayo on a an connecticut on friday when they say he turned violent. both officers offered head and knee injuries. they were treated for their injuries. demayo is facing several charges including saab on police officers. a hit-and-run caught on camera. an elderly woman knocked to the ground. today the accused driver is headed to court to face charges. anna meiler is live in chelsea this morning with the story. >> reporter: kate, police

a new place to celebrate thanksgiving because a stolen car came crashing through their front door. brianna is back with the details. >>the cohen family is thankful this morning after their door was smashed by this car trying to elude police. police say the suspects were driving on route 290 when they got off the highway and crashed into this home. inside the home were two children and elderly may re they're thankful more damage wasn't done. >>glad that they hit the platform because if they didn't they would have went through the house. >>we cannot live in there until it is repaired because it's not structural sound. >>the two suspects got out of the car and ran, and police say k 9s weren't able to find them. the information is going on. anyone with information is asked to contact police. 6:37 right now. the wife of

on see. 28-year-old jason san did he hearson of carver died saturday while in a trench when the equipment he was using kicked back and sliced his neck. his wife wrote on facebook saying her heart is beyond broken. federal safety officials want train operators across the country to be tested for a sleep disorder. the new recommendation comes in the wake crash in new jersey. the training's engineer was diagnosed with sleep apnea after the crash. a new confrontation between law enforcement and protesters in north dakota at the site of the dakota access pipeline. the morton county sheriff's office believes 400 protests are on a bridge heading north. at least one person has been arrested as law enforcement has formed a line to stop protesters from moving forward.

the cruiser and opened fire. the sergeant is in critical condition. the suspect was killed in a shoot out with police. in florida a police officer shot while conducting a traffic stop on sanibel island. the officer was in his car when he was hit in the shoulder. the suspect was arrested after a standoff. the officer was treated and released from the hospital. 6:49 right now. police investigate the apparent murder of a mother in lowell. >>police say 44-year-old gloria bell arango died tu an apartment complex. police say the victim and several others had been asked to leave a party. her son tells us she was beaten and possibly stabbed. she was the mother of four and a grandmother. 6 people safe this morning rescued from a sinking boat off the coast. the coast guard deployed a rescue swimmer to help evacuate everyone on the boat. no one has hurt.
