how the "the brady bunch" actress is being remembered. the shopping rush is starting. >>live from the channel 4 studios in boston, this is wbz news this morning. good morning to you. 5:00 right now on black friday. i'm chris mckinnon. >>and i'm brianna pits in for kate merrill. thank you for joining us. you're probably up getting ready to you're not out there. >>it was unusual just coming out of my town this morning there were cars all over the place. there wasn't traffic, but there were more cars than you recalled normally see at 230 in the. we've got temperatures in the 30s north and west and mid 40s in cape cod right now. not much going on. we're seeing a lot of cloud cover. it's going to be a rather cloudy day for the most part. there's just a remote risk it could brighten up a little bit.

showing a few showers. the forecast is calling for just that, a rather cloudy day, you were around 48 to 50 in boston, lower 50s in the cape. and a few spot showers and a touch mist with a light breeze. the rest of my forecast coming up. let's get you on the roads this morning if you are heading out for some deals. we'll take a live look at the mass. pike. no major problems on the roads right now. we have brng south. a police cruiser was rear-ended by an suv just before exit 11 b in milton. you can see the damage. we don't know if the driver will be facing charges. new overnight long lines on the roads and outside the stores. once thanksgiving dinner was done, shopping was on the menu. from framingham, cambridge and boston we're finding out what's in store on this black friday. by the

>>anna meiler is live outside the plaza this morning with a closer look at the black friday shopping rush. >> reporter: chris, i can tell you outside of the south shore plaza the parking lot is already full and there are a lot of shoppers here carrying a lot of bags around the mall. i have with me the general manager of the plaza. can you describe for us what it was like when the doors opened at midnight? >>we opened at 11:00, had an orderly transition from the outside to inside and then they all stood in ne i guess the best description is it was a sea of humanity here. it was packed. i showed you a couple of pictures. the lines were massive. some stores didn't open till 12:30, so the lines kind of stayed and grew and grew. it was like pulling a bathtub plug. the door would open and it was like ants when they all went into the stores. target opened at 1, so their line was outside. >> reporter: you were telling

>>thank you very much. the annual macy's thanksgiving day parade was a success this years. thousands lined the streets of manhattan to watch the balloons and floats pass basement unprecedented security was in place this year -- to watch floats pass by. developing news an american service member helping to fight isis in syria was killed thanksgiving. the service suffered in an ied blast. officials say this is the first confirmed u.s. military fatality in syria since the operation against isis started there. breaking overnight florence henderson has died. the 82-year-old was best best known for her role on the "the brady bunch." her manager released a statement overnight saying she died surrounded by family and friends. a salem, new hampshire family is looking for a new home

the fire moved quickly and badly damaged the 100-year-old house. nobody was seriously hurt although a mom was treated for smoke inhalation. the daughter of the woman who owned the home was overcome with emotion. >>all that went through my family is this is my family's safe and they're safe. we may have lost the home by my mother and father is safe. >>her father says the fire seemed to be caused electrical problem. an investigator confirmed that was a strong possibility. at least one of the family's cats is still missing. this morning we're hearing from a man who tried to stop a wrong-way driver on 495. a man from norton was driving the wrong way on 495 south in plainville when he crashed into another vehicle killing himself and injuring another driver. a carver mantels us he saw the

flashing lights so oncoming traffic so people would be able to react before that happened. >>police are still trying to figure out how and why it happened. the other driver is at rhode island hospital with serious injuries. a roxbury man will be in court today accused of running down four boston police officers in dorchester. police were responding to reports of a person with a gun wednesday morning when they tried to stop after a struggle with officers, police say weeks took off dragging two officers and he hit two more officers with the front of his car. he got away but was later arrested. all four officers were taken to the hospital and have been treated and released. a family's last-ditch effort to crack a yearly 40-year-old cold case. they think new technology holds the key to solving the crime but they need your help. >> reporter: chris, it is a

violence. on thanksgiving president-elect donald trump tweeted that he was working hard even on the holiday trying to save jobs from being moved out of the united states. mr. trump says he's making progress trying to stop carrier ac company from moving hundreds of jobs to mexico. the company confirms there have been discussions with the incoming administration. president obama spending his last thanksgiving in office making calls to thank service members serving overseas. he members from the army, marines, navy, air force and coast guard wishing them a happy thanksgiving and thanking them for their service. a surprise for hillary clinton this thanksgiving. she tweeted this photo with the message, "i was greeted by this heart warming display on the corner of my street today. thank you to all who did this and happy thanksgiving." coming up a different kind of black friday sale. a local shelters using

. thanks to a text mix-up an arizona woman shared her thanksgiving meal with a complete stranger. we told you about this last week. the woman thought she was texting her grandson, but instead it was 17-year-old jamal hinton. he explained to her she was not grandson but he asked if she could still come over for the meal and she said of course. >>that shows me how great of a person she is. i'm thankful for people like that. >>the grandmother says she got 6 hung messages asking for a thanksgiving plate after her number was -- got 600 messages asking for a thanksgiving plate after her number was posted.

yesterday thought he was texting butter ball turkey, also texted a random person at 5:00 a.m. asking how do i keep the skin crispy. >>is that true? >>yeah. >>going to try it again this morning. >>we straightened it out [ laughter ] what are we dealing out there, black friday shoppers? >>crazy, i've never seen so many cars out as this morning. a lot out there. so a good day fo shopping, no question about that. not much happening. we've got temperatures right now around 44. that'll be -- the high yesterday was 44 in boston. you know how gloomy it was yesterday and we had a couple of flakes of snow here and there and it rained a little bit later in the day. the coastal weather off to the northwest, the -- the coolest weather off to the northwest. the temperatures have not changed much from yesterday, mostly in the 30s to the south, and so on.

highest temperatures down to the cape and islands. the forecast we'll be in the upper 40s in boston and lower 50s southeastern massachusetts. the farther north and west it's going to be a little bit cooler, lower 40s into southern new hampshire. those would be your wise today. not much wind today. across the whole country, not too much weather going on almost coast to coast. there was a system on the west coast which is giving some ann there, giving some rain there. very nice in florida to my recollection 82 in oral -- very nice in florida today. 82 in orlando. drizzle will be generated from time to time. there could be a couple of showers, but no big systems anywhere in the country. so we're not talking about any bad traveling conditions anywhere if you have to do that today to get back to destinations for the

today as we go through the day, some rain may develop here and there, patches of mist, upper 40s to near 50 or so near boston. a little cooler to the north. a few snowshoers mixed with rain in the mountains. a lot of ski areas are opening today. some had been open but more are opening today thanks to the snow that they had been getting. and we're going to be seeing temperatures tomorrow the low to middle 40s but tomorrow the rain should come up over southeastern massachusetts and possibly up to boston, so this will be the wet area tomorrow, maybe up to the i-95 corridor, not much north and west of there. here's the 7-day forecast, you go from that 46 tomorrow and the rain mainly over southeastern mass., sunday breaks of sunshine possible but still lots of clouds and cooler. and sunday will be the day when

a lot of people looking to score deals, anna. >> reporter: chris, you were just speaking about tradition. i have a group of black friday shoppers who have been doing this for 30 years. give me some insight of how this started. >>30 years ago it started with just my mother going to the department store. their black friday consisted of opening an hour early, a couple of items on sale, and so we'd race down there and so that progressed. other family members came. they changed the rules on black friday. other stores got into the habit. they started opening at 5:00 a.m., 4:00 a.m. now we're way back at 1:00 a.m. >> reporter: and you've been going all night long, right? >>we left the house at 11:30 this is our 4th mall. >> reporter: just tonight? >>yes. >> reporter: that is very impressive. what are some of

do have is an election that was surrounded by hacking. >>stine raised over $4 million in just 24 hours for election recounts. the opening of marijuana retail shops in massachusetts could be pushed back several years. the globe reports that lawmakers are discussing delaying the opening of pot shops until mid 2018. they're also looking at pushing back the start date for when people can legally grow marijuana at ei it would still be legal to possess and use the drug in the state. boston public schools says it's reviewing the communications breakdown following an alleged sex assault on a charter school bus. this involves a route serving boston renaissance charter public school parents heard about the incident from a facebook page and not school officials. boston public schools tells the harold it's conducting an internal review.

an odd sight in japan, snow in november. this is the first time tokyo has seen snow this early in the season in more than half a century. above freezing temperatures kept the snow from sticking in most cases, though it did accumulate on sidewalks
