good morning. we are glad you're waking up with us. we are following breaking news this morning. former cuban president fidel castro has died. his brother and current president raul made the announcement on state tv late last night. . >> reporter: to supporters he ruthless dictator but for better or worse castro was cuba for nearly 50 years. in the late 1950s castro along with other rebels began a campaign that topple ed toppled cuban strong man z. i was happier here, you know, everything was

live pictures this morning meanwhile as people are taking to the streets of miami celebrating the news of his death. crowds gathered all across the city people chanting and dancing while holding cuban flags with people hugging and embracing each other. barry standing by with a look at our 5-day forecast. did you see that picture? >> i did. looking out undercast not overcast. they've got the high level clouds above the center and the low fog underneath. that's quite a picture indeed. any way let's take a look and see what the numbers look like. we've got temperatures currently in the upper 30s around boston. lower 30s as you head out and mid to upper 40s down over the cape. so it is generally foggy and the foggiest weather is
6:35 am
into northern new england. so this is where the national weather service has a dense fog advisory up until 8:00 this this morning for much of eastern and southeastern new hampshire. but the visibility down to a quarter mile in lawrence. there's a weak disturbance coming along here which may spill a couple of scattered showers and a touch of midst in some spots but a lot of this is going to be focused farther up north andes so the idea is the fog will be lifting. average high temperature today 45 not much wind, there may be a couple scattered showers, but no widespread long lasting rain indicated or today. sunshine is just around the corner. my forecast is as well. see you in a few minutes. let's check our top stories. a woman is hospitalized after being hit by a car while trying to cross route 9 in framingham. the wreck happened around 6 last night.
6:36 am
police are investigating the crash but so far no charges have been filed. another black friday is in the books but this one was a little less busy. the number of people who shopped yesterday dropped 28% compared to 2 years ago. many did head online or shopped through mobile apps. online shopping hit nearly 117 billion this holiday season. the man suspected of killing # people at a church in south carolina will stand trial. a judge dylan roof is competent. he's charged with hate crimes in the deadly attack at a charleston church. prosecutors say he targeted his victims based on religion and race. he's now facing the death penalty. well, new technology helped solve near a 40-year old cold case. the family of a teenage murder victim certainly hopes so.

well good morning. patriots have a date tomorrow. everyone's been worried about tom brady who missed practice wednesday and thursday listed with a knee injury. so it was great to see him taking part in yesterday's work out although listed as having limited participation and questionable for the game tomorrow. could missing a few games of practice really affect his performance? well, remember brady missed the first month of the season and that didn't slow him down. >> i feel like i've got a lot of football kind of stored up, not
6:43 am
but if you can't practice then you can't practice, like i say you do the best you can do until you get out there. then when you get out there do the best you can do. if i get my shot on sunday i'll do the best i can do. >> i guess he'll do the best he can do. >> gronkowski questionable for tomorrow's game also slater out with a food injury. pats and jets 4:25 here followed by 5th quarter post game show over on my tv 38. black friday a bruins celtics double header at the garden. yesterday afternoon the celtics hosted the spurs, last night the bs entertaining the flames. second period bruins down 1-0. former goalie johnson gets caught out of position and puts it in from a tough angel but the flames challenge.
6:44 am
out marshan going one on 2. scores the take down. bruins certainly playing with a lot of emotion last night. had lots of scoring chances too. and finally they got one to go through. it's tied at 1 and yes, the kids in the crowd certainly happy about that but only 70 seconds later former bu terrier all alone beat hodobin. bs go down 2-1. they'll host the lightning tomor in the day celtics and the spurs. celtics went on an 18 run early to take a lead. bradley had 19 points and 8 boards but of course they came back. 4th quarter, spurs up 89-84.
6:45 am
high 24 points 8 assists, cs down 3 with a minute to go but the spurs's beverage made the difference. mills with a 3, celtics lose 109-103 putting an end to their 3 game winning streak. . >> we have to play a little bit better to win that game against a really good team. . >> kind of what you get when you play a veteran team like that. >> every possession counts you have to be perfect. ey ends of the floor. they're all on the same page. almost like watching a machine play. >> against the really good teams we can't have those lapses. maybe other teams we can get away with and this team will make you pay for it and they did. >> it's frustrating but we made mistakes that the spurs capitalized on. we've got to learn from it.
6:46 am
college hoops bc taking on kansas state. the eagles came in on a 3 game winning streak. eagles lose it about 18, 72-54 as they drop to 3 and 2 on season. that's the very latest in sports for now. a wbz exclusive a doughnuts worker speaking out after a customer intentionally tosses hot tea on her. the mbta police are searching for that customer. she work at the dunkin doughnuts near the t station. . >> she there was a fly or something and i told her it wasn't and said she don't want that she want her money back. i
6:47 am
do drama. we have every kind of people come in here, good people, bad people. but i never don't expect that. >> after the woman was offered the replacement she was handed the tea. she tossed right back on her burning her. she is recovered but customer has not yet been identified. . >> that's so sad. that's terrible. all right, barry, can you give us some good news. you're really not bin >> not much today, tomorrow you get it. so hang in there just a little bit longer. >> good thing you trust you. i've known you long enough. >> lots of trust going on here. >> take a look, hey, look at that, hardly see the top right now. >> great shot. >> we saw a little bit of the top of the building just a little while ago but there's that, we can almost call it if you were on the tomorrow you'd be looking at an undercast. there's a layer of clouds over the top of that so that means we're really not going to have a
6:48 am
not just a plain undercast and this is going to burn off. that's the way it looks. we can take a look at it in other locations as well with some fog from our wbz weather bug network. there you can see the dense fog which exists more of a ground fog there. it's pea soup in spots, 34 degrees so be careful this morning. allow a little extra time for traveling around maybe a touch of midst in places too in some of these places and could be a little bit slick going in some s. most of the fog is widespread across northern new england, and extending down into parts of extreme northern massachusetts. visibility at lawrence is a quarter of a mile and just dropped to a quarter of a mile in bedford. pretty foggy but not much fog across extreme southern new england, a couple pockets but pretty good visibility down in here. so it's up to the north where we have this dense fog advisory from new hampshire into maine and maybe down into extreme
6:49 am
that advisory is up until 8:00 this morning. we've got temperatures in the 30s here, low to middle 40s down over the cape right now. not much precipitation as you can see. then we get the warmest weather over southeast massachusetts just like we had yesterday morning and highs across the nation will be similar to yesterday as well although a little bit warmer in chicago than it was yesterday. then it warms up as you head to the south and the warmest area will be across southern texas. most all of florida the 70s to lower 80s and around the southwestern part of the nation around phoenix around 80 degrees. here's a weak system coming along, seeing it produce a mixture of snow and rain. that's moving northeast. so is looks like a lot of this is going to be charging up in areas northwest of boston but we may have a sprinkle or a touch of midst, scattered showers around. as you can see this is
6:50 am
heavy rain we thought would move up is not going to do that. so look what happens though we get into more clearing with time as a storm develops offshore, drying will take place and sunshine tomorrow with patches of clouds around but certainly sunny and brighter than it's been in quite a while. and monday will be sunny all day long. after that it starts raining again tuesday afternoon and we get left over drizzle wednesday morning and another batch of heavy rain late wednesday and wednesday nig so temperatures pretty much, you know, about the same all week long in the 40s. here's the trivia for this hour, let's check it out. what location is the foggiest in the usa? point rays california, how about cape disappointment in washington? >> come on is that really a place? >> san francisco california or mistake island maine. >> you know, this just looks like -- i don't know. i don't know what to believe here.
6:51 am
>> everybody talks about the fog in san francisco but the place that get the most fog point rays california. they have 200 days a year on average. >> really? a it's dangerous and b depressie the other 2 real? >> yes, yes, they are. they all have fog. >> really? >> and also mistake island that's at moose peek white house. i love that. >> thank you. we'll be right
