about two hours ago a frightening home invasion in philadelphia. a woman tied up by robbers who ransacked her place and business. we're live with a report. we should learn how and when a closed interstate bridge in delaware will be repaired. amid reports that the problem that led to the closure was reported a long time ago. a live look at nbc 10 first alert radar shows showers in parts of the area, clearing out, though, but we are tracking more showers moving in. the first alert forecast ahead. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm chris cato. let's get to meteorologist bill henley. welcome back, bill. a few showers to greet your return. >> we've got clouds, fog and

showers and some thunderstorms that we're tracking at this hour. clouds are overhead, warm and muggy and lots of low clouds too. obscured view of the buildings from the adventure aquarium. the radar view shows storms moving through northeastern maryland. rain in lancaster county heading to chester county. heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning as well will be moving across the area this morning. temperatures are going nowhere for now. 71 in philadelphia. 67 in trenton, 72 in wilmington. a warm muggy start and it is going to be a mostly muggynd somewhat stormy morning. showers, possibly thunderstorms around. 72 at 7:00, middle 70s at 9:00, and a chance of showers and warm and 81 degrees at lunchtime today. a look at the future weather when i come back to show you when the showers are likely. first jillian mele has traffic. >> good morning to you, bill. a pretty foggy start in some

areas, fog, low clouds. this is a live look at the ben franklin bridge, the view from philadelphia. you can barely see the bridge, you see the lights out there. we can see a f cars on the bridge but we're not reporting issues, no accidents. so we're off to a quiet start as far as traffic goes right now which is definitely good news. this is 95 at girard avenue. you travel 95 this morning you're not going to notice changes from yesterday. the construction project expected to start last night was pushed back until tonight. 95 at girard is typical, no issues there as you see 76 is also clear, so is the blue route. >> this story is developing right now. philadelphia police are looking for two men wanted for a home invasion and robbery. the men broke into a tern above a tavern. we understand thathe owner of the business was tied up by these criminals. >> reporter: that is right, chris. she was able to give police valuable information.

detectives finished dusting the crime scene for prints because the victim says the criminals were not wearing gloves. take a look at our video. the districtot the call around 1:30. the break-in happened long before that. the owner of the tavern says she was asleep when two men broke in, second floor back window. they tied up the 68-year-old woman and ransacked her apartment looking for money. detectives say the only thing the pair stole was a registered handgun. the men are in that 20s and 30s. detectives could be aided by surveillance cameras in the area. we're going to talk more about that, how many cameras and how they could help this investigation. that's coming up in the next 30 minutes. jesse gary, "nbc 10 news." >> we have a developing story overseas in afghanistan. nato says five service members were killed in an attack in the southern part of afghanistan yesterday. officials say a group of taliban

attacked a patrol there when helicopters came in for air support, they bombed the outpost mistakenly killing the five service members. it's not clear if any of the service members are from the u.s. new developments on the shutdown of the 495 bridge over the christina river. deldot says it will release its plan to get the bridge reopened. "nbc 10 news" learned that no dangerous contaminants were found in soil samples taken from the mound of dirt believed to have caused some of the support pillars to tilt when the mound was pushed against the pillars. the bridge was shut down after an enginr noticed it looked odd. a local business owner recorded that the median wasn't lined up properly back in april. >> new developments this morning in the deadly crash involving comedian tracy morgan. walmart says its truck driver who is charged in the accident was operating within federal

regulation. kevin roper is charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. he is scheduled to appear in court tomoow. according to documents roper dozed off moments before his tractor-trailer slammed into the rear of morgan's limo saturday morning on the new jersey turnpike. court documents claim that roper had not slept in over 24 hours. a walmart spokesperson says that roper was operating within federal regulations requiring drivers to work no more than a 14-hour shift. 911 calls from the crash were released. >> there is a terrible accident. the car flipped. it's on its side. i'm just calling it in. >> comedian james "jimmy mack" mcnair was killed in the trash. morgan remains in critical condition with several broken bones but is improving. three other passengers in the limo were also hurt. >> firefighters are still looking at what csed a shuttle

bus to catch fire at philadelphia international. look at this video sent by a vier last night. this happened around 8:45 at the terminal e baggage claim. an airport spokesperson says the driver got out safely. there was no one else on board. th road was shut for a short time as you can imine. this morning voters in trenton are headed back to the polls to choose the next mayor, a run-off election. so whoever wins will replac disgraced forme mor tony mack. nbc 10's katy zachry is live at trenton city hall. why turnout could be problem. >> reporter: hi, chris. that's righ today's election bween the two who received the most votes in last month's mayoral election. paul perez and eric jackson were the top vote-getters. since neither captured more than lf the vote in the initial election they are back on the ballot for today's run-off election. jackson had 30% of the vote and

backing from top democrats from trent trenton. both are running on cleaning city government. mack was ousted from t position earlier this year after he was convicted on feder corruption charges, run-off elections typically don't yield the same number as general elections. frankly, voters say they went to the poles so they don't make coming to a run-off election a top priority. polls open later this morning. live in trenton, ky zachry, "nbc 10 news." >> something else we're watching this morning today a new jersey economic development board could approve some big tax crets th would let the 76ers build new practic facility in camden. as camden waterront is the location where the sixers hope to build that new facility with help fromhe state of new jersey and the taxpayers. the sixers won a grant from the state to bld the gym. they practice at the

philadelphia college of medicine. today airport workers will pack city hall demanding a back in a raise in minimum wage. on may 20 voters pass add referendum to raise the minimum wage for subcontracted workers in philadelphia to $10.88 an hour, that would include airport workers. today the workers will gather at city hall asking the mayor to enforce that pay limit immediately. >> happening today in the lehigh valley a court hring for a woman accused of leaving her baby alone in her minivan for hos ile she drank at a bar. lisa alset is charged with child endangerment. lice say she left her 2-month-old daughter alone in the van for five hours while she was in the keystone pub. investigators say the temperature outside was 39

degrees at the time a bar patron spotted the baby in the van and told the pub manager who called police. >> people who live in a homeless encampment in ocean county will march today protesting a looming shutdown of their tent city located in lakewood on township-owned land. for months the town has demolished with plans to close it by the end of this week. people who live there and their supporters are fighting that. they are going to march for the encampment this morning to hold a demonstration. tracking showers, thunderstorms and areas of fog this morning. lots of humidity around and summer-like conditions are starting things off. thunderstorms just moving into the area now but fog is here in spots it is getting thicker by the minute. more showers and thunderstorms expected even later in the day

today. it's going to be an on and off event. right now the fog is on in the pocono mountains. 62 degrees, 67, warm, muggy for trenton and dover at 72. showers, thunderstorms are not far away. this is center city. you can see -- you can't see the buildings this morning thanks to the low clouds and some of the fog that moved in. a murky view. the thickest fog is off to the north and west, dense fog now in the pocono mountains, quarter mile visibility there, down to a mile and a half in quakertown. it's down to two-mile visibility at northeast philadelphia and look at mount holly, a half mile visibility there. no issue for central and southern delaware and most of south jersey when it comes to fog. but there is rain in the area today and we are tracking those rain showers already moving into lancaster county, a few raindrops in parts of the extreme southern chester county.

you can see scattered showers offshore and showers moving into southern delaware. but this is the primary area of concern, heavy downpours with thunderstorms that are pushing off to the northeast. and they extend up into the harrisburg area, just clearing right now but expected to move into berks county in a short time. we've got wet weather ahead this morning. and more showers and thunderstorms on and off during the day. 7:00 this morning you see the storms, the temperatures in the upper 60s in philadelphia. and a chance of spotty showers in south jersey. should see some breaks of sunshine by late morning and early in the afternoon. that will send temperatures in the 80s and that heat along with the high humidity will help fuel more showers and thunderstorms later in the afternoon. this is 5:00 this afternoon, look at the storms popping up. temperatures dropping down into the upper 70s. a look ahead toward tomorrow with more storms on the way when i come back with the extended future weather. >> now we have to look ahead to traffic at 4:11. you showed us the fog, let's

in florida two people are dead after this plane crashed at daytona beach international airport, just after takeoff last night. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the crash. they say the plane belonged to a flight school nearby. the couple who killed three people in las vegas had been kicked off of a ranch where anti-government protesters faced down federal agents earlier this year. jared and amanda miller briefly

joined the arm anti-government protesters who were supporting nevada rancher bundy back in april. police sayn sunday the couple walked into a pizza shop, killed two police officers, crossed the street to walmart and shot a shopper before killing each other in a suicide pact. the suspects had posted a manifesto on the internet blasting the government saying that stopping oppression can only be accomplished with bloodshed. >> at 4:16 new details on the v.a. health care scandal. audit shows more than 57,000 veterans have waited more than 90 days for their first v.a. medical appointment. that review also shows that additional 64,000 veterans never got appointments after requesting them and the audit finds that it's not just a backlog program. in a facility by facility report 13% of schedulers supervisors told them to falsify appointment schedules to make it appear that patients were waiting shorter

times. the scandal has forced v.a. secretary shinseki to resign. >> more on bowe bergdahl. the armtd services committee will investigate the prisoner swap that freed that p.o.w., he was held for five years after being kidnapped in afghanistan in 2009. he was freed a couple of weeks ago in exchange for five taliban detainees. lawmakers say they have serious concerns about that swap. they also say the white house violated the law not notifying congress 30 days before the deal. president obama defended what happened saying that bergdahl's health was in jeopardy. >> in a reversal the owner of the los angeles clippers says he intends to fight to keep his basketball team. nbc 10's tracy davidson is live in our digital operations center with more on this about face for donald sterling. tracy. >> reporter: the draw ma continues, despite his lawyer's announcement last week that sterling would sell the clippers, now he says he's going

to hold on to the team and fight every attempt to make him sell the team. he also says he'll continue with his plans to sue the nba for $1 billion. he released a statement titled the team is not for sale. sterling says he worked for 33 years to build the team and never wanted to sell. sterling also lashed out at nba commissioner adam silver who banned sterling from the league for life in response to those racist comments made during a private conversation. sterling says silver illegally ordered the forced sale of the clippers. now, it's unclear how sterling's statement will affect the deal that he and his wife shelly made to sell the clippers with former microsoft ceo steve ballmer for $2 billion. more to come on this for sure. tracy davidson, "nbc 10 news." >> 18 minutes after 4:00. we have this for you from our south jersey bureau. cash taken from a charity event. volunteers are asking the community to help make it right. th angels of god clothing closet in pitman tells us that

someone took $600 from their cash box at a yard sale on sunday afternoon. that's awful. they say all of that money they raised was all the money they raised for the entire day. the organization collects clothes an food for those in need. 17-year-old katelynn who started that charity when she was 12, has a message for the thief. >> we are a charity and we give out clothing and food so if they are in need of something like that we would actually love to help them. >> whoever took that money may not be looking for clothes and foot. she'll have another fund-raiser this weekend and hopes that people will donate to help them recoup their losses. >> from the delaware bureau this morning, if you are headed to the beach listen to this. life guards at a beach are on high alert after a teen says he was bitten by a shark. 16-year-old tells parks officers he felt something grab his arm yesterday around 5:00 at cape

sightings are nothing new but this year there seems to be more of them. look at this. sunday morning howie spotted this hump back, shot this video b. a quarter mile from the beach and a few minutes later the creature came within ten feet of his kayak. luckily he says the hump back didn't dump him. the sighting was one of several this past weekend. >> alarming when he came up behind us the last time because i had no idea what his plan was, was he going to come under us an role us? >>ther whales made a splash too. some whale watching operators tell us the whales are coming closer to shore because they are following food. >> we are tracking thick fog this morning and low clouds too. this is the murky view from the loews hotel camera in center city. cloudy skies and showers are in
