umbrella salesman. >> that and a fog horn maker. we have dealt with fogs and we have it again. the temperatures are cooler, we are seeing the coolness lead to fog at the jersey shore. light fog in cape may. it is thicker in areas north and west. zero visibility in coatsville and chester county. mount pocono, and one mile visibility in blue bell. not an issue. showers in the area. a steady shower moving into delaware county and salem county and gloucester county. it will be spotty at best. 63 degrees in philadelphia. five to ten degrees cooler than yesterday morning. hour-by-hour forecast when i come back. first, jillian mele has your

forecast. >> no big incidents to report. dealing with overnight construction. this is a live look at 95 in gerard. the road work has cleared. traffic is moving along fine in both directions. 76 looks good. so do the bridges. keep in mind, you could see slippery conditions on the bridge surfaces. this is the ben franklin bridge. no incidents to report there. for drivers in delaware, another day. 495 is closed in both directions between terminal and 12th street. you can take 95, 295 or route 13 to get around it. chris? we have breaking news. two hours ago, fire destroyed a popular tavern. jesse gary is live on scene. what is the situation there now? >> reporter: right now, officials are trying to determine if they are going to start to bulldoze the structure that was once the tavern or wait

for first light. the emergency call came in at 12:15 as the owners and employees were cleaning up and preparing to close. a grease fire started in the kitchen. they rekindled the duct system and spread to the roof. norwood fire and six other companies responded. they kept it from spreading to a nearby house. the roof collapsed. the building, a complete loss. there were no serious injuries, just one slight injury to a firefighter. a chance to talk to the fire chief about the challenges of fighting this type of fire. you will hear his comments in about 30 minutes as they clear away their equipment from the scene. jesse gary, nbc 10 news. chris? this morning, the countdown is on for a possible strike by the regional rail workers. 126,000 commuters could be

affected by the strike if it happened, starting friday morning. that is, if the new contracts can't be agreed on. it will lock in the same raise given to other unionized workers. they say it's unacceptable because they haven't been given the same deal. george spoke to one septa commuter about what's going on here. >> reporter: if the trains stop, you are in trouble? >> we would definitely be in trouble. there's no other way to do it on the bus or anything. we rely on the trains. >> there would be a huge impact. the final round of talks are set for tomorrow morning. the union planned to strike at 12:01 saturday morning if no negotiation is successful. a strike would not affect the subway plan. they are holding off a kick off for that today. this sunday morning, just after

midnight. it will replace the current bus service running saturdays and sundays. the kick off rally with the free wi-fi will be held this morning at 11:00. also happening today, parents and students are going to march for more funding for philadelphia public schools. demonstrators go from city hall. they are calling on lawmakers to improve $250 million in funding for the philadelphia school district. that's what they need to maintain current service levels. we have new information this morning. we know the official cause of death of michael ward. a medical examiner ruled his death in a hot tub aboard a cruise ship was drowning due to extreme sboxification. he was one of two survivors of the bombing in 1985 when

philadelphia police dropped a bomb on a row home. that's the video there. no one can forget the move bombing. 11 people were killed, including the mother of 13-year-old birdie africa. you can see he went on to live with his father and took the name michael ward. he was 41 when he died on the cruise ship last fall. beaten unconscious during a robbery. the m & m food market in rocks burrow shows him taking cigarettes and cash, then goes into a rage when he notices the owner hit the store alarm. he punched him repeatedly in the head, knocking him unconscious. >> he said come down and help me, i have been robbed. >> the victim suffered a broken

eye socket. if you have information about who this man is, call philadelphia police. happening today, funeral services in new york for james, jimmy, mcnair. he was killed in the accident that injured tracy morgan. morgan is still in the hospital. the actor of "saturday night live" and "30 rock" was coming home from a gig when a tractor trailer rear ended them. the driver of that walmart tractor trailer pleaded not guilty in court yesterday. kevin roper appeared in court in middlesex county. he may have dozed off at the wheel and had not slept more than 24 hours before the crash. happening today, governor will sign a bill that bans it sale of e-cigarettes to minors. it bans them from buying or

receiving tobacco substitutes. police are telling people to take precautions after two bear sightings. look at the photos sent by a viewer. he saw the bear. earlier it was spotted on warden avenue. when bears wonder into neighborhoods, they are looking for food. they remind you not to put the trash out until pick-update. if you see a bear, never approach it. here we go again. clouds are overhead. showers in the area. it is, however, a bit cooler this morning than what we have seen recently. temperatures are running five to ten degrees cooler that morning. the cooler weather led to areas of fog.

chillier this morning. that has led to some fog. we are tracking light showers moving through the lehigh valley and delaware county, light showers. it is dry where we saw the heavier storms to start with yesterday morning in lancaster county. the showers are pulling away from the newark area, which had a bit of rainfall to start with. the clouds are thick overhead. yes, there is fog. it's thick in coatesville and the pocono mountains. philadelphia international seven miles visibility. just under a mile in blue bell. along the coastline, light fog. wildwood, two mile visibility right now. we are going to see clouds most of the day. the fog will ease this morning. there's a chance of spotty showers at 8:00 this morning. light showers in the area, 67 degrees in philadelphia. by lunchtime, you might see a few sprinkles, but mainly cloudy.

76 degrees at noontime. it's later this afternoon that we'll start seeing thunderstorm development and potential heavy downpours at 5:00 this afternoon when temperatures are in the upper 70s. there's drier weather ahead. when to expect that, when i come back. at 11 after 4:00, we have a traffic problem in the princeton area. jillian mele has that. jillian? >> some kind of chemical spill on route 1 southbound. two lanes are blocked. route 1 can get busy later in the morning. i'll continue to watch it. right now, traffic is getting by. two lanes are restricted in the area. 42 past creek road to the bridges, the bridges are looking good. no issues to report there. 76 is pretty quiet as you can see in both directions. drive times on 76, between the blue ridge and the vine will take 14 minutes now.

sell. outgoing owner, george norcross tells the associated press, the sale was finalized. we reached out for comment but he's out of the country. the philadelphia district attorney added charges against a mother and her boyfriend. the girl's mother is charged with an extra count of child endangerment. those charges are related to the condition of the home. now, this is video of hunter from earlier this week as police escorted her from john berry elementary school to the police station after a teacher discovered a 6-year-old showing classmated a dozen of heroin, some of them open. police initially tried them with possessing narcotics and endangering the welfare of a child. now additional charges have been

filed. a delaware mom says her son saved her life when he dove in front of her to take a bullet. it happened last night in new castle county. patricia buckworth and her son were in their apartment when a neighbor barged in firing shots. exactly why is unclear. her son through himself in front of her and was hit twice. he's in the hospital in critical condition. the suspect shot and killed himself. a man arrested in a sniper scare near new york's lincoln tunnel has ties to the area. donald wallace has an arrest record in pennsylvania. the last arrest in philadelphia. he called 911 saying the d.c. sniper is here in your city. he claimed there was a gunman on the roof of a lumberyard. authorities swarmed the scene tracking down and arresting wallace in new york after he

left his cell phone on. philadelphia police are looking for whoever threw soda bottles full of chemicals on the lawn of a neighborhood. a man inside a house did get some of the chemicals in his eye. he was treated by paramedics. house republican leader, eric cantor will step down next month after losing the virginia primary. we told you about that yesterday morning. he said he will resign asmajority leader. he lost to david brat. he says he has no regrets about his campaign. >> there's a balance between holding a leadership position and serving constituents at home. never was there a day i did not put the constituents of virginia first and i will continue to do so. >> at least three republicans are up for his leadership post.

thousands of veterans who endured long wait times are now getting the help they needed from congress. the senate passed a bill to make it easier to get treatment from doctors. that's similar to one approved in the house. they are optimistic a compromised bill can be sent to problem for his signature. held in honduras. a family is fighting to bring home their son. devon hunter went with a dive team. the men were arrested for gun smuggling even though they had permits for five guns they were carrying for protection against pirat pirates. we spoke to his family in bucks county. >> it's illegal and they need to be where they are safe. they have not done anything wrong.

nice win by the phillys last night. looks like we are going to see a few showers in the area during the day like the last couple days. it's part of a slow-moving system that doesn't want to leave. it will leave in time for the weekend. that's the good news. most the area is dry. we are watching for areas of fog and a bit of mist. we'll get a few more showers during the day. on and off, not an all-day rainfall. thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon and evening. if you are making plans for the weekend, things will be improving. 68 degrees at the shore. the beaches today, upper 60s. tomorrow, warmer, 74. there's a good chance we'll see showers and thunderstorms. it's possible in the morning and afternoon and into the evening on friday. but, it will clear out in a hurry. saturday will be nice and much more comfortable. the humidity coming down. sunshine at the shore, 76 degrees.
