morning. the temperatures this afternoon going to go higher. you'll see a bit of a breeze, a northwesterly breeze blowing so far. a southwesterly win develops, helping move our temperatures up. for now, they're coming down, 50s and 60s and a couple 40s in the pocono mountains, 48 degrees. trenton is 60, 61 in wilmington. philadelphia international is 65 degrees. lots of 50s in south jersey and areas north and west. clear skies to start with and lots of sunshine. brilliant sunshine. 68 degrees at 7:00. by 9:00 into the 70s and then we'll be moving up at noontime, 83 degrees by lunch time today. jillian mele is watching your traffic on a monday morning. good morning. >> i was following an overnight accident on the northeast extension, blocking all lanes, just a few minutes ago on the northbound side between landsdale and quakertown. that accident has cleared just before our show started. the northeast extension is clear. we don't have any other issues

to report as far as accidents go. we have overnight kruk but nothing causing delays for drivers. this is a live look at 95 near cottman avenue. area bridges are also in the clear. this is a live look at the ben franklin bridge. we have the construction on the eastbound side, the right lane blocked in that area, for drivers headed into new jersey. westbound side of the bend is in the clear. vai? fire at a home in kensington. this is the 800 block of eastern cornwall street. the fire broke out just after 11:00 last night. no one there was hurt. today federal investigate ares will try to determine why the landing gear of a jet got stuck. nbc 10's jessie gary is live at the airport. why are the passengers now. their hotel beds after a long,

almost three-hour flight to nowhere in particular. we've raeched out to lufthansa officials to see if they have an exact cause as to why the landing gear got stuck. the flight took off at 5:45 yesterday afternoon. the malfunction was detected not long after becoming airborne. the pilot tried to raise the gear but there was no success. they made announcements in english and german that there was a problem and they'd burn as much fuel as possible before returning to philadelphia international airport. the vapor stream was the fuel burn in progress. the passengers are here at the baggage carousals getting their baggage. the airline put up those passengers in nearby hotels to try to get them back on their way tomorrow or tuesday. coming up in the next 30 minutes you'll hear from some of the passengers, what exactly was

going on inside the cockpit once they heard there's a problem. we'll have that for you in 30 minutes. live at philadelphia international airport this morning, jessie gary, nbc 10 news. new developments out of iraq just within the past hour, militants have taken over a town there, nbc 10's tracy davidson is tracking these developments. tra tracy? >> the militants we've learned in the last hour or so have captured this town, near the syrian border. it's the northwestern border of iraq. the mayor confirms it. the town has about 200,000 people. this is the third town or city to fall in iraq in the last week. meantime, the u.s. state department has announced that security personnel at the u.s. embassy in baghdad will be increased amid the current instability in iraq, about 150 marines have been sent to help with that. some staff has been moved out of the embassy. most remain. the embassy has about 5,000 personnel. then there are these disturbing

pictures. new photos posted online appear to show mass execution of iraqi soldiers by that militant group there. we're not showing the most graphic pictures but here are some of them. the photos were taking by a group. independent news cannot independently verify their authentici authenticity. we'll continue to monitor developments. live in the digital operation center, tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. video just in from kenya, scene of a deadly attack there. this took place in a popular coastal town there. we're getting information that at least 48 people have been killed. police say militant gunmen targeted two hotels there, a bank and a police station. kenya has experienced a wave of gun and explosive attacks. police shot and wounded two armed men during a neighborhood block party in north philadelphia. authorities tell us an officer chased down three men on north randolph street last night. two of them were armed. during the melee, officers shot

both gunmen. they ran off but were caught a block away and taken to the hospital. one of the men is right now in critical condition. happening today in delaware county, the trial is set to begin for the brother of an accused baby killer. police say rushdie threatened the lead investigator in his brother's case. he's charged with disorderly conduct and making threat. his brother ahmad rushdie is accused of kidnapping his girlfriend's baby from an upper darby home last summer and then killing him. according to police, heç admitd to his mother that he killed and buried ali. the boy's body has not been found. patrick meehan will visit the veterans affairs clinic in h horschum. the facility was flagged by the v.a. inspector general. this comes after a national

audit of v.a. facilities after reports of long wait times for vets. from our delaware bureau, kruk workers union will kick off a national bus tour at the i-495 bridge to call for better infrastructure across the country. it's called getting schooled in infrastructure, the group's goal is to highlight the problems with america's roads and bridges and show the need for a long-term fix. the i-495 bridge has been closed since earlier this month after engineers said it was unsafe. after the stop in wilmington, the bus tour will head to philadelphia later on today. and there will be a special donation today for the schuylkill river trail in honor of fallen plymouth township officer brad fox. a steel post will be placed feet away from a memorial that honors him. the posts are designed to keep people who use the trail safe from vehicles. officer fox was a former marine and seven-year veteran of the

plymouth township police department. he was shot in the head while he and his canine partner chased a suspect. that suspect was found dead nearby after turning the gun on himself. environmental and consumer groups will push for changes to the way electric cars are sold. they are rallying this afternoon to ask law marks to support a bill that would allow companies like tesla to sell cars directly to customers. two months ago, the state motor vehicle commission banned companies from direct sales. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> getting a pleasant start this morning. skies are nice and clear. brilliant sunshine today and a warm day today. in fact, a bit warmer than it was yesterday. we'll be in the upper 80s this afternoon. and tomorrow, it turns even hotter. in fact, hotter and more humid weather will be on tap for wednesday when we can also see some powerful storms move in.

until then, we'll be looking at sunshine for today. clear sky this morning, 48 degrees. and a cool spot as the pocono mountains, trenton 60 and 61 degrees right now in wilmington. completely clear view of boat house row. we'll see plenty of sunshine along the schuylkill this afternoon. temperatures will be in the upper 80s. 65 in philadelphia. look at the cooler weather, north and west, pottstown is 55, 54 degrees in quakertown. in south jersey, delaware, a bunch of 60s. a few spot vineland and mount holly in the 50s to start with. they're see 80s this afternoon as well. a few high clouds off to the north. we are in the clear for today. but come tonight we might see a few clouds move in. there's a chance of scattered showers late tonight. until then, those clouds will steer clear of our area. we'll see sunshine drive the temperatures up. by 9:00 this morning, the

temperatures will be in the low 70s for philadelphia, trenton, upper 60s in allentown, reading and 60s along the coast in atlantic city. by noontime, we'll be in the 80s, possibly warmer than it was all day çyesterday. and look at the winds shifting, becoming more southerly at noontime as we go into the later afternoon hours, more of a southerly wind and some spots a southwesterly wind will push temperatures that the upper 80s. 3:00 in the afternoon by philadelphia. we may go a bit hotter than that. yes, hotter, more humid conditions are on the way. a look ahead when i come back. it is 4:10. let's get a look at traffic with jillian mele. >> no accidents to report out there. free of any incidences. no delays to report on any of the major roads. we have one problem, a downed tree in conshohocken.

a live look here at center city philadelphia in all its glory from across the delaware river. 64 degrees out there. and it will get warmer. the trial resumes for six philadelphia traffic court judges accused of ticket fixing. federal prosecutors say the former judges gave favorable treatment to people with political or social connections.

three others were accused in the investigation, have pleaded guilty. police tell us the deaths of two people yesterday in conshohocken was a result of a murder/suicide. the bodies of a man and woman were found inside the home on wilmer avenue. investigators confirm they are a married couple, their identities are still being withheld. police in burlington county are looking for the gunmen in a drive-by shooting. a dispute involving several people early yesterday morning on ernshaw lane led to the shooting. both victims are in stable condition. three people are recovering from injuries after an accident involving two vehicles and a bicycle. police say a jeep flipped over and caught fire after colliding with a mini van in the west oak lane section of philadelphia. a person who was riding a by si -- bicycle nearby was also rescued. we have video of a police

officer in rio de janeiro who appears to fire a shot at world cup protesters. he pulls out his pistol and shoot the weapon at one of the demonstrators. some protesters threw fireworks and molotov cocktails during the clashes. police had to use pepper spray on the crowd. in san antonio, texas, fans fill the streets. san antonio beat lebron james and the miami heat, a rematch of last year's championship game which the heat won. the spurs wrapped up the series in just five games. people are paying tribute to legendary radio host kasey kasem following his death. he died yesterday in a hospital in washington. people laid flower on his star on the hollywood walk of fame. he was the voice of shaggy on

scooby doo. kasey kasem was 82 years old. kfc corporation is investigating if an employee in jackson, mississippi, asked a 3-year-old to leave a restaurant because her facial injuries were frightening other diners. victoria wilcher is recovering from a pitbull attack in april. a spokesmanç says kfc is also giving $30,000 toward her medical bills. and in connecticut, police say a case of hoarding turned deadly after the cluttered first floor of a home collapsed into the basement. the homeowner, 66-year-old beverly mitchell died. police say the first floor was piled waist high with clutter and they didn't realize the first floor had collapsed. mitchell's body was found while they were removing debris with a backhoe. a phoenix priest who was badly beaten in an attack that killed not clergyman is expected

to mack a full recovery. the two priests were attacked at a roman catholic church in downtown phoenix. one priest was shot to death. police are searching for a suspect describe as a white male between the ages of 40 and 49 years old. and scientists say they made progress on developing a bionic pancreas to help people who live with diabetes. doctors say the experimental device passed a real world test by monitoring blood sugar and automatically giving patients insulin. it improved blood sugar control better than standard insulin pumps. a parking garage in virginia that gained game after the watergate scandal 40 years ago will be demolished. it will be replaced with residential and commercial towers. bob woodward met a secret source there, called deep throat during the watergate investigation. the demolition won't take place

until 2017 at the earliest. your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> it is springtime but it will feel more and more like summer over the next couple days with bright sunshine. skies are clear right now. sun coming up just after 5:30 this morning. we'll see a lot of it, too. 65 degrees currently in philadelphia. the wind is calm. that is going to change. we'll see a southerly wind develop, help boost our temperatures. you can see how calm the water is right in front of the boat houses this morning. very little wind. temperatures are still falling as a result with less wind and clear skies overhead. radar will be watching that for late tonight. there's a possibility of some showers and some thunderstorms. there's not much to them just yet but you can see clouds that are moving into the ohio valley. those will be here late tonight. but before they get here, we'll enjoy plenty of sunshine today. and a nice day along the coastline. the jersey shore, the delaware beaches. we'll see temperatures into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. nace and comfortable today with low humidity.

a live look at citizens bank park where the phillys dropped their game to the cubbies, 3-0. they are headed to atlanta where they begin a set there with the braves later on today. meanwhile, new video has surfaced of a man in thailand who has a close encounter with a charging elephant. take a look at this. watch as he stands his ground and stops the huge animal by putting up his hand. this took place at a wildlife sanctuary in february. the video just recently turned up online. wow. happening today, rutgers university breaks ground on aç state-of-the-art chemistry and chemical biology building. the $115 million facility will provide teaching, laboratory and research space. governor chris christie will be on hand for today's groundbreaking which happens at 10:00 this morning. don't forget about nbc 10's grant challenge for local

two problems out of montgomery county right now. let's start with the accident in norristown, trooper road at pot shop road. the other is a downed tree in conshohocken, balligomingo road. this is a live look at route 309 at the pennsylvania turnpike. both directions quiet, 309 is clear the entire length of the way. the p.a. turnpike is looking good. we have construction on the turnpike but all long-term, nothing causing slowdowns. 42 freeway off to a good start, the northbound side as drivers pass creek road and head out to bridges, area bridges are in the clear. tracy? new from overnight, a fight escalates to a shooting inside a north philadelphia bar. police say a man was shot in the leg at the bar on north second street. he told investigators he was not part of the fight. police say he is in stable condition. the shooter took off running. new from overnight, fire at a hon
