dry. we'll see lots of sunshine today. right now we're watching the temperatures. 65 in philadelphia. wildwood is 63. 59 in millville and low 60s areas north and west and in delaware. clear skies warm us into the 80s this afternoon. sunny and 69 degrees at 7:00. by 9:00 we're in the low 70s and low 80s. low humidity at lunch time. we'll go through it hour by hour when i come back. first, jillian mele has monday morning traffic. >> this is near spring gardens. a couple drivers out there. for the most part. all of the major highways in the clear. we have normal overnight construction on the northeast extension near lansdale. it's not causing slowdowns for drivers right now. this is a live look at the ben franklin bridge, the view from camden, no issues there. we have one small problem for drivers in new jersey in moorestown we're dealing with a

downed pole, route 38 eastbound near nixon drive. one lane is blocked in that area. vai? police are searching for the armed robber who held up a sunoco gas station. officers are dusting for fingerprint fingerprints. investigators are working to figure out what was taken. happening today, pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane will release a special report that takes a closer look at how the jerry sandusky investigation was handled. nbc 10's katy zachry is live in the digital operation center to tell us why the report could have political implicatiomplica. >> that's right, vai, the report will be released later this morning. it looks into the scope and pace of the investigation. when charges first surfaced in 2008 governor john corbett was then attorney general. it took nearly three years for charges to be filed against

jerry sandusky. the former defensive coordinator for penn state football was convicted of sexually abusing young boys and is currently serving a 30 to 60-year sentence. attorney general kane suggested governor corbett may have had political motivation to slow down the investigation when his office first got involved. after a lengthy grand jury investigation, sandusky was arrested, that arrest led to the unpopular firing of famed coach joe paterno and at the time, governor corbett was serving as a university trustee. corbett maintains the case was handled properly, saying investigators needed time to direct reluctant witnesses. coming up at 4:30, we'll talk about the person attorney general kathleen kane has chosing to lead the review. nbc 10's rosemary connors will be in harrisburg when the attorney general releases this report at 10:30 this morning.

we'll continue to follow this story on nbc 10 and nbc10.com. from the south jersey bureau, a 9-year-old girl is dead following a tee-car crash in burlington county. this accident happened on mount holly road in burlington township. two other people were taken to the hospital, one in critical condition. police are investigating what exactly caused this crash. people in philadelphia's rittenhouse square say they're playing it safe after a woman was raped over the weekend. this video shows is the man coming up from a 26-year-old doctor as she's walking home early saturday morning. the woman was walking to her home on spruce when the man confronted her. the police are studying the surveillance video and the route the woman took on her way home. >> it's usually a safe bet to have a cab just atç least goin

home, because maybe all your wherewithal is not about you, especially late at night. >> police are investigating the incident as both a sexual assault and home invasion. today a presidential mediation board sits down with both sides in septa's ongoing stalemate with two of its unions. nbc 10's jesse gary is live. >> reporter: this is a chance for the boord to feel out concerns for both sides. speaking of the two sides, they have been at odds for years. the impasse took a turn nine years ago when the two unions walked off the job citing a failure in negotiations. 60,000 riders were left without a ride but only for a day. septa brass says what they want

would bust their abudget. 1983, a lot of daily passengers were hopeful this cooling off period will produce results. we'll talk to some of them as the morning moves along. we're live in chestnut hill this morning, jesse gary, nbc 10. vai. acme supermarket workers have refused the company's current contract proposal. members of local 1776 are prepared to authorize a strike but they voted to extend their old contract until august 30th. issues that need to be worked out include health care, pensions and wages. we're following developing story in iraq just in the last half hour, the past hour, secretary of state john kerry landed in baghdad as the crisis in that country continues. nbc 10's tracy davidson joins us with more on what's happening in iraq. >> as you just said, kerry's visit comes as the violence continues. eight people are dead, 13 others

are hurt after a suicide bombing in anwar province. kerry landed in baghdad a short time ago. he says the insurgent group isis has become a threat to all of the countries in the region. >> what's happening in iraq is not happening because of the united states in terms of this current crisis. the united states shed blood and worked hard for years to provide iraqis the opportunity to have their own governance and own government. >> the secretary of state is now urging all arab states to work together to stop the sunni terror group. kerry says the u.s. wants iraqi leadership to contain the insurgency. also, yesterday, iran's religious leader condemned any u.s. involvement in iraq. we'll continue to follow this still developing story overseas. tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. now yub nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> monday morning, the temperatures are cooling down.

we have a nice day ahead. we'll see a lot sunshine today but not a lot of humidity. bright sunshine especially brilliant this morning with barely a cloud in the sky. just a few high clouds late in the day. through the day, however, the humidity stays low. the temperatures will climb into the middle 80s and then the temperatures stay warm tomorrow and humidity starts to increase and that could lead to midweek storms. the day will be dry. clear in allentown, 61 degrees. plenty of sunshine in northeastç philadelphia. right now 63 and it's 59 degrees and cooling in millville. flags are blowing just a breeze. that's a bit of a southerly wind in central philadelphia, center city, most areas are seeing dry conditions and very little wind. the water on the delaware is barely moving right through. the wind speeds, mt. pocono, allentown, trenton.

a light breeze in wilmington and pottstown. we'll see more of a southerly wind during the day today. that will help boost temperatures from the 60s to the 70s. 75 degrees this morning, the arrows starting to line up with that southerly wind, pushing us into the low 80s at noontime. 81 degrees with upper 70s from allentown to doylestown, millville and south jersey. as far as clouds are concerned, not too many of those. scattered clouds well to our west with a sprinkle or two to our west. we'll stay dry today. that's a quick look at what's happening right now. a look ahead to the midweek storms with the extended future weather when i come back. >> thank you, will. a look at what's happening on the road this monday, june 23rd. let's check in with jillian mele and the first alert traffic center. >> this is near mcdade boulevard for bravers in delaware county. both directions are clear. drive times on the blue route between 95 and 76 will take you 18 minutes north and southbound

right now. average speeds look good across the area. 54 mile per hours is what we're seeing right now on route 202. 55 on the northeast extension and 55 on 76. the only problem we're dealing with at this hour is a downed pole for drivers in morristown right now. route 38 eastbound, near nixon drive in the area of route 73. deep that in mind. the right lane is blocked there. this is a live look at the 42 freeway. that's the northbound side as drivers pass creek road and head out to the bridges. bridges are in the clear. so far we're not reporting any accidents on the majors in delaware. >> it was a great weekend to get out on the water. nbc 10 at bartrums community riverfest on the schuylkill. it features a boat parade. folks are out there fishing as well. the goal is to connect people with the habitat along the river. american dreams are running high following sunday's soccer showdown for team usa.

4:13 this monday morning. 64 degrees out there as we take a live look at the philadelphia museum of art and bill henley says it will be brilliant sunshine, hardly a cloud in the sky today. we'll get his first alert forecast coming up in a moment. a 43-year-old gloucester county man faces charges including dwi after an accident that injured a police officer.

the suv hit the monroe township officer as he was standing on the shoulder of the black horse pike saturday night. the officer suffered a broken leg and knee injury. he is listed in stable condition. it was a violent weekend in the city of philadelphia. three people were killed in at least nine shootings. the most recent happened sunday evening in west oak lane. police say they found more than a dozen shell casings on the 1900 block of 69th avenue near ogonwgontz avenue. no arrests have been made in any of this weekend's shootings. ten families are out of their homes one day after a fire in montgomery county. it started in this building on 4th street in pensburg. the red cross is providing food and shelter for those who have nowhere to go. firefighters have a wildfire in new mexico 60% contained. the fire has burned more than 22

square miles since it began more than a week ago just east of the arizona/new mexico border. areas north of the fire re-opened yesterday as the firefighters made progress against this blaze. investigators believe the fire was likely caused by a human. a dog belonging to a california firefighter who disappeared during a backpacking trip has been found but his owner remains missing this morning. 36-year-old mike herdman had been missing since june 13th.ç he was backpacking when his dog ran off. the search will have to be scaled back. >> sadly at some point you have to make a decision about what the odds are and what's the likelihood with all these resources that might be successful. >> the dog was found in the parking lot where herdman parked

his car. a public memorial service was held for a teenage boy killed in an oregon school shooting. family friends and classmate filled the church to play tribute to emilio hoffman. he was in the locker room at reynolds high school east of portland when he was shot and killed by a classmate on june 10th. the 15-year-old gunman later killed himself. the police are working to figure out a mote knife the shooting. aaron hernandez was taken from his jail cell to the hospital this weekend. hernandez visited doctors for an undisclosed problem and returned to jail about an hour later. officials say they can't say what caused the problem because of privacy laws. hernandez is accused of killing two men in boston in 2012 and another man near his massachusetts home. and now the world cup, the u.s. team let a win slip away in the final seconds of a nail

biter in their march against portugal. the captain, clint dempsey knocking in this goal off his chest to give the u.s. the lead. deep in stoppage time, portugal ties it up at 2. unbelievable goal there. the u.s. just seconds away from winning this match, instead, they have to settle for a draw with portugal. hundreds of soccer fans packed 15th and locust in center city. everyone was stunned by the last-minute goal. >> kind of demoralizing the way it ended. a tie is good but at the same time, a win was what we needed. >> next up for the u.s., they will play germany on thursday. the match between the u.s. and portugal is now in the history books after the ref stopped the match for the first ever water break in the world cup. this happened in the 40th minute. a water break is allowed if the game is being played in extreme

heat but not mandatory. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> we are getting a humidity break this morning that's going to last through the day. 65 degrees. just a few high clouds over philadelphia. a light breeze out of the southeast at 5 miles an hour. humidity at 81% but we'll be watching that number drop during the day. and we'll be watching bright sunshine warm the coastline into the 80s this afternoon. philadelphia nice and clear this morning. it's a live view from the comcast center in center city. a day filled with sunshine but not humidity. that changes as the week goes on, however. we're watching the satellite imagery, no clouds for us today but you can see what is going to slowly work its way this week. and come midweek, we could see showers and thunderstorms from this system that's producing rain and some thunderstorm activity in the chicago area and into missouri. it has a ways to go before it gets here. it will be threatening our area

by midweek it looks like. 3:00, you can see showers sitting well to the west in western pennsylvania. tomorrow, we'll see wet weather off to the north and west first thing in the morning but storms will likely stay to the west during the day. that's 4:00 tuesday afternoon. nice and dry in philadelphia. you'll notice more humidity. then come wednesday, starting off wednesday morning, 11:00 a.m. into the afternoon hours. we see showers and potentially some thunderstorms as well developing midweek. until then, we're looking at pretty nice weather. today, sunny skies, warm but not humid. the humidity stays low. temperatures into the 80s this afternoon. i'll show you how long that lasts in the next half hour with the seven-day forecast. >> it looks like we have a hiccup on nixon and route 38 in south jersey. >> that's right. it's blocking one lane at the intersection of route 38 eastbound near nixon drive near

4:24. 64 degrees out there. cool but bill henley says it is going to be a beautiful day. summer solstice started over the weekend. going to be a great day. >> what should have been a great day at the beach turned deadly for a philadelphia man who drowned in a rip current in philadelphia. the 25-year-old man was walking in shallow water with a friend. he was visiting in near smear th -- smyrna beach when he slipped and went under. the man is known as debrice dzoyem. a friend says she screamed for help as dzoyem was swept away in the current. >> i couldn't do anything. i'm not a strong swimmer.

>> search crews combed the ocean all day. tonight they did recover his body. from our jersey shore bureau, the mayor of atlantic city plans to ask the federal government to establish a port in the resort town. mayor don guardian says he'd like to make atlantic city a stopover port for a regional cruise lines with smaller ships. gas prices are slowly rising, up an average of 2 cents in the last two weeks. analysts say prices could keep increasing as violence in iraq continues. here's a look at our area compared to the national average. right now the average price in the u.s. is 3.71 a gallon. that's compared to an average of 3.65 here in our area. get ready to pay a little more for your morning starbucks latte. the company says it's raising prices on some but not all drinks starting tomorrow. on average, the drink pricesç
