>> announcer:s in 10 breaking news. developing situation in h hammohnton. a standoff there has ended. a live look this morning as you're waking up in center city philadelphia. some low clouds over the area. the showers we had roll through overnight are moving out this morning. however, the humidity is not. it will be a steamy one. good morning, everyone. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm chris cato. yeah, rain moved through overnight. some of you may have heard the thunder and saw the lightning. this is what it looked like in lower marian overnight. let's go to bill henley. bill, you said we would see the

showers, possibly, thunderstorms overnight. they certainly rolled through. a big downpour. at lafayette hill. they're still coming down at cape may. the thunderstorms have ended. that is rain on beach avenue. a rainy start. settling down to now it's light rain in southern delaware and south jersey. there have been a few showers to the north so it's going to be a dry morning. and temperatures will be climbing from a mild start in the low 80s to near 90 this afternoon. 72 in philadelphia. 68 in trenton. we're starting off with clouds, we'll see the clouds thin out. and the temperatures will be climbing. we'll see afternoon temperatures of 90 degrees with just a chance of a shower. jillian mele is watching your traffic. good morning. >> good morning, bill. nothing real major happening on the area roads. this is a live look in south philadelphia. i-95 and broad street. you can see we have the

overnight construction is the up on 95 but no delays as a result of the construction. you see travelers making their way southbound from fox street to 76. 76 is also in the clear. for drivers on bucks county, construction near route 1 and route 213. chris. we're following breaking news out of atlantic county where we learned minutes ago a police standoff wrapped up. the situation is over. we're learning officers just left the scene in hammonton, this started after a report of shots fired there. nbc10's katy zachry is live. katy, what can you tell us? >> reporter: hi, chris, i can tell you we're away from the scene where police are holding us as soon as we got here, we saw a long line of police vehicles, emergency vehicles leaving the scene. i called hammonton police and they told me, yes, in fact, the standoff has ended.

there's really nothing behind me, the scene has completely cleared. what we understand, around 10:30, shots were fired at a police officer from at least one person from that that a barricade was created a police barricade. dozens of officers from as far as the jersey shore from bettener responded. it all happened at the whispering pines kocondominium complex. it was around 10:30 when someone fired shots at police. that barricade went up and just about 15 minutes that situation was dissolve we're trying to get information how it dissolved. if anyone was injured, if anyone was in custody. i'm told that the hamannton police chief was on the scene. and we'll break it down and hope to get more information and see you in the next half hour with hope.

fully more on how it happened and how it ended. chris, back to you. new developments overnight on this story on the missing malaysia airline plane. australian officials now say the underwater search will now shift farther south in an even more remote section of the indian ocean. and they say that the jet was likely on autopilot when it disappeared. according to authorities, this is based on stretch analysis. the plane vanished on march 8th with 239 people on board. happening today, a preview with big changes coming from the philadelphia museum of art. a live look at that iconic city landmark which will soon get a major makeover. nbc10's tracy davidson is live in the information center. are they doing anything to the lafayette steps? >> well, the plan is not finished yet but they're considering building a window in the middle of the iconic steps

that would lead to a series of underground galleries. the exhibition debuts next week it's called "making a classic modern." it's a plan for building it on the parkway. the project will allow more of the museum's more world renown art collection to be displayed. >> there will be a lot more gallery space and a lot of spaces where the visitors can tell where they're going and where they are. it will be very exciting. >> the proposed plan would add 169,000 square feet. there's no timetable for the master plan. a preview of "making a classic modern" is set for 9:00 this morning. the full exhibit on display beginning next tuesday.

july 1st. from our delaware bureau a state trooper shot in the line of duty is recovering in the hospital. state police say corporal mike mccann killed a suspect in magnolia kent county. they told us the suspect kenneth dix was wanted for a domestic violation. corporal mccann was hit in the face and chest but he's going to be okay. >> we all breathe a sigh of relief. >> police say the gun used by the suspect was stolen last june. corporal mccann is on leave while the case is being investigated. and philadelphia police shot a man last night after they say he pulled a gun on him. police stopped that man on champlost street in olney. police shot the man several times. he was taken to the hospital in critical service.

well, train services running on time again after a train hit and killed a person yesterday evening. in delaware county. the victim has not been identified. the accident caused delays on amtrak and septa lines. heavy police presence is expected at north field school after seventh graders made threats against other students. officers took the student into custody. they say he will not be charged. police are also expected to be at north field's graduation ceremony tonight. and this from the south jersey bureau. construction of the gloucester township premium outlets in camden got under way. those shops will be located between black forest pike and route 422. tonight, sixers fans can come going in dozens of locations across the area to

support sixers during the nba draft. tonight, 76 locations in new jersey, delaware and pennsylvania are holding draft parties. the draft starts at 7:00 p.m. the sixers have the third overall pick. andrew wiggins, anyway? we're just hours away from the world cup match for the americans. video here of the squad leaving their hotel and going to practice yesterday. of course, they're playing germany this afternoon. wane or draw will send the u.s. on to the next round. with a loss they will need some help from other teams to advance. world cup fever is rampant. xfinity live will start that game at noon time. the union was packed for the game against portugal and today should be no different. >> usa team wasn't expected to do well but after the first win against the team that eliminated them last year, i think people are just jumping on board.

widespread heavy rainfall we saw overnight. in mt. pocono, clouds are trending in wilmington. starting to thin out, 70 degrees. you'll notice the high humidity. this is a live view of the buildings from the adventure aquarium. the clouds will thin out. look at that. there we go. the high clouds with the showers pushing offshore, now we're dealing with low cloudiness and you'll see breaks in clouds justify to the west. but when you're watching the future weather, as we go through the day, there's a possibility of more showers popping up later this afternoon, and that's most likely to happen at the jersey shore. a look at the ball game forecast when i come back. >> now, it's time for a look at the traffic forecast. the situation with nbc10's traffic reporter jillian mele. good morning. >> good morning, chris. it's quiet on the majors right now so if you're waking up and have somewhere to go, you can

see both directions of the schuylkill expressway is clear. the vine street expressway is also pretty quiet. that the the westbound side as drivers make their way off of the vine into 76. both directions of the vine looking good right now. keep in mind, we do have construction following some in upper providence, if you need to get around, sandy road is a good option. on hawk road in levittown. habitat helps folks realize their dreams of home ownership. a family of five will be moving from a two-bedroom to rental to this three-bedroom home. good for them. connected again. back on the map. plus, gm sends an umpent message to its dealers do not sell it's popular car.

14 minutes after 4:00. a live look at citizens bank park, south philadelphia. the phillies came up a little short yesterday against the marlins. losing 3-2 in that one. 72 degrees. we're in for a steamy thursday. women who are worried about their safety following that shocking rape in rittenhouse square over the weekend gathered last night for a community meeting. more than 50 people met and learned self-defense techniques and learned to watch out for each other and pay attention to their surroundings.

this comes from that sexual assault early monday when police say a man followed a woman home and raped her. >> i just wanted to learn how to avoid this happening to me or any of my friends. >> as we told you tuesday, milton garcia is the suspect. he's charged with rape, kidnapping, robbery, among other things. officers believe he may have exposed himself to another woman an hour before committing that rape. and update to breaking news we brought you yesterday morning. monique braxton was on scene yesterday morning. new arrest in the double stabbing in olney. both were stabbed many times. police believe this happened in front of a home in front of north street. they found a knife in front of the door and also a dozen cats in what they call a case of eck treatment hoarding. and repairs to that i-95

bridge in wilmington are moving along quickly. crews are working around the clock to get that bridge reopened by september. you remember, they closed the bridge after the closure they found many of the support columns are tilted. authorities are hoping to have the southbound lanes reopened by labor day. starting monday the greenwood avenue bring in jenkintown is expected to rehope. the project took nine months longer than expected to complete. that bridge connects jinxentown to cheltentown. a toddler left in a hot car for hours died of heatstroke. harris said he forgot to take his son to day care last week, instead, he kept driving, went straight to work, left the child in the backseat for hours. investigators say he didn't realize his son was there in the 90-degree heat until after he left work that afternoon.

dozens of concertgoers in boston got sick after a concert last night. officers say many of the people showed up drunk at the td garden. they had to be taken to the hospital. venue was very hot. about 80 people were treated at the show. about 35 was taken to the hospital. officials believe this is a mix of dehydration and alcohol and possibly drugs as well. the concert featured a swedish singer. kerry spoke at a nato meeting in brussels. he specifically singled out syria and iran. he said iraq has to take steps to defend itself from the insurgency there without relying on outside help. the u.s. is sending 300 advisers to iraq. outgoing israeli president simon perez is in washington to receive the u.s. congressional

medal. yesterday, he met with president obama at the white house. the two talked about concerns about iran's nuclear program. and mideast efforts. perez is on his final foreign trip before leaving office. general motors is temporarily stopping sales of its top-selling car, the chevy cruz. gm has told dealers not to sell the models until they can work with the air bags. the company is working with the supplier of the identified part to identify which vehicles are affected. and online site has suspended its campaign for a 3-year-old amid questions for the family's story that they were asked to leave a kfc restaurant. the site called go fund me as offered refunds for those who felt they were duped. the family said kfc asked them to leave the restaurant because

4:23, and if you liked yesterday's muggy weather, you'll enjoy today as well. meteorologist bill henley telling us it's going to be steamies, temps around 90 degrees, upper 80s. the showers that rolled through last night moved out as we take a clear look at the art museum. if you recognize this man here, take a look here, police in bucks county want to hear from you. this guy they say stole a wallet from an umpire. a baseball umpire. he apparently took the wallet from the umpire's car during a game in hatfield township on june 14th. investigators saw him in a surveillance vehicle using cards from that wallet. they believe he drives this white ford explorer. the woodbury club now has a new owner. william burress bought the sight for $3.2 million. it will be turned into a medical

the area. good morning, this is "nbc10 news." i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm chris cato. some areas got a lot of rain in fact, this is what it looked like in old city. move going through there had to take out the umbrellas as they moved through. also some of you saw and heard the thunder and lightning as well. let's go to meteorologist bill hen. bill, the rain is out of here, right? >> yes, just a slight chance we'll see pop-up showers this afternoon. it was impressive rain overnight. parts of philadelphia, we saw two-thirds of an inch of rain, more than an inch in lafayette hill. and the clouds not producing any rain at this time. that's a cloudy view of center city. cape may close to a half inch of rain there. that's all offshore. but the humidity is still with us. and showers to the north have dissipated this morning. 72 degrees in philadelphia. 68 in trenton. wilmington is 70 degrees. and we're heading to the upper 80s to near 90 this afternoon.
