>> announcer: nbc10 breaking news. that is the breaking news we're following overnight. police in missouri using tear gas to break up protesters in the fourth straight night of unrest here. we'll have an update four. here at home, it is the second of the visit of the democratic national as civic leaders make their last big push to bring the convention to town. and a live look at a pretty dark cape may out there. if you like the cooler weather we've been having, you're in for another day. good morning, everyone, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm chris cato.

let's start with the forecast. meteorologist brittney shipp is in. >> it's cooler than average temperatures. that's what we're going to see over the next few days. it's going to be a nice treat especially today heading into tomorrow. taking a look outside, we are going to see plenty of sunshine. and a closer look at the temperatures as you're getting ready to head out the door. we're going to see temperatures in mid-50s. 63 in dover. on the chilly side in lancaster, 56. 62 in atlantic city. heading into the day, temperatures stay below average, mostly sunny, less humid, we stay in the high 70s and low 80s. i'll let you know how long for the "first alert" seven-day forecast. let's go to jillian for i look at traffic. >> good morning. it's a much different look this morning for drivers in lehigh

valley. this is 22 near airport road. traffic is moving along just fine. 22 is clear, 78 is free of any problems. you do have the normal construction at the northeast extension, near quakertown and lansdowne. we also have work on 202 northbound approaching 76. two right lanes are blocked in that area. average speed on 422, in the 50s. and for drivers, 52, and watch out for a downed tree, atlantic city expressway eastbound near cross keys road. we do have one lane there but traffic can get by. chris. back to that dramatic new video out of ferguson, missouri, that just came in overnight. police in riot gear were firing tear gas canisters at protesters after the protesters lobbed

molotov cocktails at police. nbc10's tracy davidson is live in the digital operations center this morning. tracy, does it appear that police can get any calm on the situation? >> every night it seems to be out of control. this is the fourth straight night the violence over michael brown's shooting death has followed into a nightly event. here's more of that dramatic video that's been coming into the newsroom overnight. that green tint from the video is from night vision lenses on the camera. protesters threw molotov cocktails and other things at police. protesters are now demanding that police release the identity of the officer who shot and killed 18-year-old michael brown. police say brown was killed saturday night after a scuffle inside an officer's patrol car

spilled on to the streets. two witnesses said brown was on the street with his hands raised when officers fired at him repeatedly. journalists were also part of the story. a news from the al jazeera cable channel, two reporters covering the story say they were told by police to stop recording the chaos. they were arrested but later released. we're continuing to monitor the separation in ferguson, tracy davidson, "nbc10 news." police are looking for a gunman following a double shooting in south philadelphia. two 18 year olds were shot after 10:00 last night at 10th and baneridge street. both in stable condition. as from overnight the search is on for threeo fled om germantown.

police say hey man was shot several times. police tell us the man is critical but stable condition and is expected to live. several other adults and a 1-year-old inside the house at the time of the shooting were not hurt. breaking news now. we have this information just coming into the newsroom. in the past ten minutes about a shooting that happened outside a peace awareness convert in philadelphia. nbc10's katy zachry is live outside of temple university hospital. katy, what have you learned? >> reporter: hi, chris, that's right, new information that we we just got from police sources is that this is a homicide investigation stemming from a shooting that happened at 8:30 last night outside the dell music center. the victim was unconscious after shot twice. ironically, it was happening outside a concert to promote peace. let's go to our video. again, the shooting happened around 8:30 last night. irony was not lost on

concertgoers to promote peace just in the wake of weeks of violence we've seen in philadelphia. a fight broke out over two men, possibly over a woman. the fight escalated and police say an 18-year-old took out a gun and shot a 20-year-old. the shooter drove away in a white chevy impala. the victim was rushed here to the hospital. >> the irony of it does make you feel bad for the fact of the matter we work for this. you know what i mean? this is what we worked for and it's defeating the purpose. >> reporter: again, the sad irony, a man was shot and killed outside the dell music center while going on at the music center was a concert to promote peace. i'm told that central detectives is reviewing videos. that's evidence they have in their hands.

they're also talking to witnesses. one witness in particular, i'm told was with the victim who was shot. that victim, a 20-year-old man who was rushed here to temple university hospital within the last hour or so was pronounced dead. if you have any information, contact philadelphia police. reporting live in north philadelphia, katy zachry, "nbc10 news." here's what else we're following today, it in just a few hours, philadelphia leaders could spend a second courting the members for democratic national convention. jesse, what's on the menu for the democratic officials this morning? >> reporter: the second day kicks off with a breakfast meeting. on the menu, high-dollar funding with a side of persuasion. the city is showing the city's best in hopes of convincing the dnc members this is the best

option. the furs day included food and heroes and landmarks. later, the serious numbers crunching that could make the difference for this city and the markets. >> they've seen our market, they've seen the great convention center and i think people are impressed with what we have to offer. >> reporter: new york, phoenix, columbus and birmingham all in the running. coming up in the next 30 minutes, we're going to dig into more of the costs that it would take to bring the convention here. to read more about how philadelphia is trying to impress that dnc selection committee go to our website nbc10.com. from our jersey shore bureau, we may learn of more arrests concerning last month's heist at caesars casino. plummer worked as a security guard. they face charges of robbery,

aggravated assault, weapons violations and receiving stolen property. police say on july 21st, to armed men wearing masks and gloves robbed the casino. state police are holding a news conference at noon today in which they say they will discuss more of the details of the case. >>. happening today, a suspected serial rapist who taunted one victim telling her he is hiv positive. ian gabriel is charged with three rapes. police say a dna test links gabriel to two other rapes in 2012. phillies' own bill cosby will be in town to give a show for the men gymnastics program. the comedian will perform for 200 guests at the independent visitors center.

men's gymnastics is one of the program temple cut last year to save money. it now is a club sport. >> announcer: now your nbc10 "first alert" weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. good morning, now that we're done with the rainfall, we'll see less humid condition, sunny skies and below average temperatures. we're normally in the low 80s for this time of year. today, we'll stay in the high 70s and low 80s. philadelphia, 66 degrees, mostly clear skies. wind speeds out of the west at 9 miles per hour. throughout the rest of the region 61 and reading and atlantic city at the airport where temperatures are at 62 degrees. again, mostly clear conditions for us. right now throughout the rest of the area, we're at 55 degrees in mount pocono. low 60s in wilmington and 62

degrees in millvale. we're down 13 degrees in allentown. 10 degrees in mount pockno. 8 degrees in pottstown and 7 degrees in wilmington. a quiet day, big change from yesterday. we do have a cold front that is associated with the system that moved through here yesterday. so, our temperatures are going to stay below average. we could see a passing shower as we head into your afternoon and early evening hours. allentown, pocono mountains, that's the best chance for the passing shower. but for the most part, we'll see mostly sunny skies and a comfortable day into the work week. those temperatures are going to stay this way as we head into the rest of the work week. expect temperatures to warm to 80 degrees into the 7:00 hour. the seven-day forecast coming up. the weather is cooperating. let's see if the traffic is.

it's usually pretty quiet at this hour. jillian mele will tell us of any obstacles to watch. >> we do have construction on 76, chris, part of that repaving reconstruction. and it's tough to see in this area, we do have cone set up in both directions, west and eastbound, one lane blocked there but as you can see it's not creating any slowdowns right now. new jersey southbound, at the pennsylvania turnpike, two lanes are blocked and that's expected to be out there until 6:00 this morning. keep in mind, you could see lane restrictions, and as we approach that 6:00 hour, possibly volume in that area. leave yourself extra time. a downed tree out there one lane blocked in that area. a local mother of two is murdered. her husband charged with stra e strangling her and how the family is victimized again.

the widespread reports being squashed by robin williams' publicist. and how local police are trying to stop this summer plunge that could have deadly consequences. we continue to follow the breaking news out of ferguson, missouri, overnight where that video came in. police in riot gear firing tear gas canisters at protesters after some of those protesters, threw molotov cocktails at police. that protest sparked with the unarmed shooting of a teenager over the weekend. we'll have that and more right after this.

and again, we show you that dramatic video in night vision scope from ferguson, missouri, where police in riot gear fired tear gas at protesters after some of those protesters lobbed molotov cocktails at police. the fourth night of unrest in the st. louis bush is there. that is sparked by the shooting of an unarmed teen. this morning, a local community is grieving following the sudden and very public death of a public official. the west ocean township supervisor was killed when a truck slammed into this grocery store in westchester yesterday. dr. robert wright was also a dentist who ran a practice in town with his son. about 12:30 a pickup truck going in reverse ran over wright who was on the sidewalk pushing him through the front of the store.

we spoke to his neighbors who were stunned to learn of his death. >> he cared about the community. he cared about his neighbors, he cared about the township and trying to do right by them. >> now white has served as west goshen supervisor since 1992. he leaves behind a wife and two sons. police are calling this an accident and not releasing any information about the driver who ran over them. from our south jersey bureau, we're working to bring more about the story we brought you last night. a man was stabbed to pine hill, camden county. no word yet from police on any arrests or what led to the stabbing. this morning, two men are charged with trying to break into the home of the woman who was murdered in penneypack park. connie murray's body was discovered. police say her nephew and another man tried to break into her home on to bert street.

her husband is charged with her murder. police say they have surveillance video showing christopher murray riding up alongside his wife and they started arguing. later that evening, he strangled her to death. a man is in jail for killing his twin brother and a man with a sword. you're looking at the video that was taken at the pottstown directory. prosecutors argued that mccann drew knew exactly what he was doing and knew. it was wrong. but the judge disagreed that he knew what was going on. a spokesperson for the late comedian is denying that he had money problems. last month, he listed his napa valley estate for sale for $30 million.

he told a magazine he was selling that estate and returning to tv and a sitcom because he had bills to pay from two divorces. and broadway paid tribute to williams by dimming its theater marquee. williams was found dead monday in his home in northern california at 63 years old. south korean defense officials say north korea fired three short-range rockets into the waters off the country's east coast. it happened just hours before pope francis arrived in south korea for the first papal visit in 25 years. this is the scene there when the pontiff arrived there. he will beatify 124 korean martyrs. he mr. preach for peace and reconciliation for north and south korea. >> announcer: now your nbc10 "first alert" weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. good morning, you're going to love the forecast over the next couple days especially if

you like temperatures a little on the cooler side. staying below average. less humid conditions expected. and we're going to stay below average for at least the next three days. a live look outside right now, mostly clear skies in philadelphia. 66 degrees, humidity at 9%. winds out of the west at 9 miles per hour. atlantic city, 62 degrees this morning. and throughout the entire region we're seeing mostly clear skies which will give way to mostly sunny skies as we head through the rest of the day. right now, 61 in trenton and atlantic city, 62. 62 in wilmington, if you're waking up with us in pottstown we're at 60 degrees. a light jacket as you head out the door. a 24-hour temperature change shows we're down 13 degrees, 10 degrees in the poconos. and 8 degrees cooler in atlantic city than yesterday. we're definitely done with the rainfall we saw yesterday and the clouds.

so mostly cloudy skies expected for us as we head into the relevant of your thursday. one thing to tell you about as we push into the afternoon, we're going to see a chance of a passing shower but throughout the day, we'll stay mostly sunny. don't be priced in allentown and the poconos, a few sprinkles. as we head into the rest of the day, temperatures will stay in the high 70s, low 80s. 81 degrees on your friday. and beautiful conditions over the next few days. your seven-day forecast is coming up. great looking weekend, but before we can get to that, we've got to get to work a couple more times. nbc10's "first alert" traffic report jillian mele will hit us know if there's anything out there to hit the road. >> no big accidents throughout right now. this is a live look at the boulevard. you'll notice on the northbound side we have that arrow, that

construction that started this week. we're not seeing any delays as you can see the southbound side of the boulevard at broad street is pretty quiet as well. heading into middletown, road work, route 299, and still have this downed tree on the atlantic city eastbound, and near berlin and cross keys road. left lane traffic is blocked as you make your way to that scene, chris. ♪ it was just the ticket on a summer night. the beach boys brought their goo vibrations to sun center studios in aspen, delaware county. this is the finale of the summer concert series. this may look like a good way to cool off, but it could also have devastating consequences. thanks to hidden hazards below the surface of the water there.

out in anaheim, different night, same result. the phillies dropped another one-run game after blowing a lead. today's an off day before the phills visit the san francisco giants. a video posted on youtube shows young people trying to get a thrill and cool off at a local rock quarry. but police are warning this is dangerous, even deadly. the video has attracted visitors to the abandoned old slate

quarry in bangor. the mayor said the police arrested 15 people on monday, most of those from out of state. >> first responders have a very difficult time coming in here. it's not easy to come in. it's not easy to get out. if you're hurt, it could take a while to get help to you. >> now, here's the sad thing, police say one jumper was paralyzed after he jumped into the quarry. another was pinned under water by old steel cables and he drowned. township officials say they don't have the manpower to keep people out or the money to close off the quarry. >> announcer: now your nbc10 "first alert" weather. and we're gearing up for a nice stretch of weather, below average temperatures. low humidity. i'll let you know how long it will stick around and what's in store for the weekend, jillian. good morning, brittany. dry roads, unfortunately word of an accident.
