nbc 10 breaking news.ç the missouri national guard is heading to ferguson after another night of protests get out of hand. a big win for phillies little leaguers. the taney dragons move one step closer to a little legal world series tight until dramatic fashion. taking a live look outside at 4:00 a.m. on this monday. our camera in cape may showing us all quiet of course. it will feel like summer with highs in the mid-80s. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm chris cato. let's go straight to meteorologist brittney shipp.

>> as we head into the next couple of days we'll see a return of a chance of storms, too. it will feel more summer like like you were mentioning. here's a live look outside. mostly clear skies as we head into the rest of the day. temperatures starting off this morning in the mid-50s for the poconos, 58 degrees in allentown, 59 in doylestown, 57 in washington township. 61 in trenton and a closer look as we head into the next couple of days. we are going to see a return of storms. i'll go over the details on that coming up in your full seven-day forecast. for now, we send it over to jillian. >> britteny, things are quiet on the roads. this is a live look at 95, northbound side a little bit of construction at bridge street. really nothing out of the ordinary as far as that construction goes. typical overnight road work, that's what we're dealing with, especially here on the boulevard. northbound right at broad street is looking good. checking some of your drive times right now, 422 is clear

and the blue route is quiet. chris? those were the sounds again in ferguson, missouri, more confrontations overnight between protesters and police there. nbc 10's tracy davidson is live in our digital operations center where tracy has been following the developments. >> in the past several hours the govern of missouri is nounsed that he is sending national guard troops into ferguson in response to what happened overnight. which included a coordinated attempt to block roads and overrun the unified command center by protesters. here's video of how it started. last night's confrontation began when hundreds of police approached a shopping mall where police were stationed, that unified command center. that's when molotov cocktails

were tossed at them. they had no choice but to respond. >> there were multiple reports of molotov cocktails being thrown, police were shot at, makeshift barricades were set up to block police. bottles and rockets were thrown at police. based on these conditions, i had no alternative but to elevate the level of our response. >> meantime, attorney general eric holder has ordered a federal medical examiner to perform another autopsy on 18-year-old michael brown, the unarmed black teenager was shot to death by a white police officer. the brown family attorney revealed over the weekend that an autopsy they had done showed that brown was shot at least six times.ç here in our area about two dozen people wearing black staged a protest inside the cherry hill

mall, demanding justice in the brown case. many protesters were graduates and students from rowan, rutgers colleges. a decision was made overnight in the response to the chaos to close schools begun. we'll continue to monitor the situation from ferguson, live in the digital operations center, tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. crew had to rescue two men who got stuck on a jet ski near the 2700 block of bay shore avenue. neither man was hurt. no word yet on why or how they became stranded. well, happening later today, it was a crime that stunned the community and led to security overhauls at philadelphia schools. today the woman accused of kidnapping a 5-year-old girl from her kindergarten class and sexually assaulting her goes to trial. jesse gary is live outside the criminal justice center in center city this morning.

you talked to the defense attorney late last night. >> fred harrison tells me jury selection is look a crap shoot. you never know exactly what you're going to get. the process for picking the panel and alternates begins later this morning inside this center. she's charged with allegedly taking a 5-year-old from her west philadelphia school last year. the child was found the next morning in a park in upper darby. attorney harrison tells me he expects most people have heard about the case but seeks to seek jurors who can be fair and serve for the one month the trial is expected to last. coming up, more on the selection process, including the form that the judge will use to poll potential panelists. jesse gary, nbc 10 news. we're also keeping our eye on a breaking news out of iran.

a 6.1 earthquake jolted that area. many people are injured and buildings are damaged. we'll continue to monitor this situation and bring you updates throughout the morning. this morning, we're getting a look at u.s. air strikes in iraq. look at this. more than two dozen rockets pummeled targets. these strikes were aimed at helping iraq ihelp ing iraqi and kurdish fighters. yesterday, kurdish forces captured that dam. in the casino crisis in atlantic city, representatives from revel are scheduled to present themselves in a court hearing today. last week, they announced they will close on september 1st and the casino will shut down september 2nd. this all comes after at casino could not find a buyer after it filed for bankruptcy the second time. about 3,100 people will lose their jobs when revel closes.

a dramatic final inning come-from-behind win for the taney dragons last night. the game tied, two outs, a runner on third. >> this one to short. fielded cleanly to first. high throw and philadelphia wins. >> the throw was high. that was ty shanahanç with the walkoff hit to give the team a 7-6 win and advance in the little league world series. >> the entire city is fired up about this. nbc 10's katy zachry is live in center city. what's next for the dragons? >> reporter: yes, it's such a great feeling, isn't it, chris, to watch the highlights. we didn't see the game as it was playing last night but to wake up and see the highlights, it's empowering. this team reached such stardom so quickly, i feel i'm along the fence of a field where celebrities have played.

the game as we said last night was a one of a kind win that brought fans to their feet. the crowd went weill at this watch party. the second one mayor nutter has hosted. a win didn't come that easy, things started off in the dragons favor. by the sixth inning they were down. you could feel here at home how crest fallen fans were. a surprise come-from-behind win. they won against the texas team they were playing 7-6. the dragons are two wins away from the championship game on wednesday. they will play a team from las vegas. that's at 7:30 and of course for that game, mo'ne davis, the pitcher will take the mound. coming up in 20 minutes, reaction from fans who were watching the game unfold last night. reporting live, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. couldn't the on nbc 10 for

complete coverage leading up to the game on wednesday. very exciting. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. >> just a few showers yesterday. as we head into the rest of today, it will be a great start to your workweek. plenty of sunshine on sunday. showers and storms are back in your seven-day forecast. and so is the humidity. so heading into this week, it's going to feel more summer-like, versing what we've been seeing, which is fall-lake temperatures. humidity at 70%. wind speeds out of the north/northwest at 3 miles per hour. across the region, 59 degrees in reading, 60 degrees in atlantic city at the airport. mid-60s for philadelphia one of the only places seeing a few clouds right now. everywhere else, clear skies and plenty of sunshine expected. we're at 56 degrees in the poconos, 62 in wilmington, 66 in dover. and a closer look at our radar, quiet right now. high pressure still in control but if you look here to our

southwest, you will see that we are going to see this little area of low pressure, this weather disturbance going to ride along a front. it will stay to the south of most of our area but the central and southern parts of delaware could see showers as we head into the rest of tonight. it's possible we could see heavy rain as we push into your overnight hours. so here's how your future weather breaks down. temperatures stay pretty close to average today. clouds are going to stay mainly to the south of us. as we head into the overnight hours we'll see a chance of showers, manly confined to dover and sussex county. don't be surprised if you live closer to dover that there is a possibility you couldáhp &hc& rainfall as we head into the overnight hours. closer to 2:00, 3:00 in the morning. we are going to see clouds increasing once again as we push into tuesday, wednesday and we have another chance of storms on those days. for today, expect to seeç sunn and nice conditions. temperatures range between 81

4:15. a live look at center city. 64 degrees in the city, nice and crisp. the humidity will come back according to meteorologist brittney shipp. it will more like august should with temperatures in the 80s, scattered showers this evening. a confessed hitman already behind bars for killing a rabbi's wife will be released from prison later this year. he spend more than 14 years in prison for aggravated manslaughter. daniels and len jenoff testified they acted on orders from her husband, cherry hill rabbi newlander. he was convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence. in burlington county, a fire at a vacant auto body shop is suspicio suspicious. it broke out in riverside yesterday morning. no one was hurt. witnesses say they saw someone

running from the scene. and we're following a developing story out of california this morning. hundreds of firefighters are trying to contain a brush fire in los angeles county. so far more than 400 acres have burned. camp grounds have been evacuated. some roads are closed as crews fight that fire from the ground or the air. no homes are currently in danger. >> federal officials are investigating a head-on collision between two freight trains in northeast arkansas that killed two crew members. it happened around 3:00 yesterday morning. the collision caused the two cars to catch fire. one was carrying diesel fuel, the other alcoholic beverages. it took seven hours to put out that fire. about 500 people had to evacuate their homes. the national transportation safety board is investigating. >> more charges could be filed today against the new york couple accused of kidnapping two amish girls. they were arrested friday and charged with kidnapping the 7-year-old and 12-year-old sisters.

the district attorney said over the weekend the girls were sexually assaulted before being let go. an experienced skydiver died during a jump in massachusetts. now authorities are trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. the 37-year-old hit the ground hard yesterday morning, police say. authorities say his parachute was open during the landing but now they're working to see if it opened too late. pope francis wrapped up his first trip to asia, urging koreans from the north and the south to come together. the pontiff met with leaders of south korea's 12 religious orders and some north korean defectors. he ended his visit with a mass to pray for peace and reconciliation on the korean peninsula. some say this trip confirms the importance of asia for this papacy because the church is young and growing there. ukrainian troops are making big advances against rebels in a city in eastern ukraine. those rebels have held that city for the past four months. at the same time, the foreign ministers of ukraine and russia are meeting in germany to try and find a political solution for the crisis.

they want to come up with a timetable for a cease-fire. in the middle east, a cease-fire betweenç israel and hamas is due to end today. a palestinian negotiator said his side is less optimistic about the current peace talks and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says his country will not be forced into any agreements. the united nations helped three couples tie the knot over the weekend. the joint wedding took place at a school operated by the u.n. which has been used as a shelter for people displaced by the fighting. the u.n. organized the ceremony, paid for the celebration and gave each couple gifts. the westboro baptist church plans to protest robin williams funeral. they are known for hate-filled protests targeting gays and other issues. neighbors in georgia rushed to the rescue of a child who became trapped when a deck collapsed. six to ten people were

barbecuing on the second floor deck when it collapsed. the 12-year-old's leg was stuck under a concrete slab. >> there were heroes that mustered up brute strength and lift that piece that fell off of the leg of one of the victims. >> that 12-year-old boy has a broken leg and five others were injured. the cause of the collapse is still under investigation. texas is drying out after some heavy rain there caused flash flooding in parts of that state. this was the scene just north of dallas where firefighters had to help this woman whose car stalled in the floodwater. driving conditions were treacherous at the time. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. humidity increases as we head into the rest of the week. a great start on monday showers and a chance of storms returning

to us. a closer look at citizens bank park. for philadelphia, a few clouds in the sky. 65 degrees. humidity is at 70%. light wind speeds this morning and across the rest of this region, cooler here in reading at 59 degrees. atlantic city at 60 degrees with clear skies at the airport there in atlantic city and temperatures, the warmest right in center city. closer look at the rest of our temperatures, 56 degrees in mt. pocono, 59 degrees in reading. 62 in wilmington. 66 in dover and cooler in millville at 57 degrees. a closer look at the radar, quiet, high pressure will stay in control for us. we're also watching this area of low pressure that's just to the south of ohio. it is going to continue to track to the east but it will stay mainly south of our area. although the central and southern portions of delaware are the exception to the rule on that. but as you take a closer look at our radar shot, you can see clear conditions. what we'll see is this little area of low pressure work closer to us. so by 2:00 a.m., we are going to

see rain moving into parts of dover, sussex county. it's going to be short lived. we could see a heavy downpour embedded with the cell that is expected to move in. clearing up by the time you get ready to go to work if you live in parts of delaware. for the rest of the area, we'll see a slight chance of showers as we head into tuesday. today, sunny and nice. tuesday, we are going to see the chances of showers returning to us. more humid as we head into the rest of the workweek. we don't get rid of the showers until next weekend. we already have an accident out there this morning. let's get an update with nbc 10 first alert trafficç reporter jillian mele. >> the accident is not on a highway. but if you live or travel through plymouth meeting. sheffield drive at brighten road is where the accident is located. use caution there. you can see all of the marks on the map. this is the overnight construction we continue to follow. on the northeast extension,

still deal, construction on the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound near bensalem. broad street, one lane of traffic is getting by there. we have that normal construction set up on 95, northbound especially near bridge street and allegheny avenue. this is 76 at montgomery drive. both directions of 76 are moving along just fine. chris? up next, moving day. it was supposed to be a simple job as simple as moving 3,000-pound letters by helicopter can be. the nine letters that led to an engineering nightmare in center city. running toward trouble, a little boy on the loose and an alert officer who saved the day. you have to see how this ends.
