we're following breaking traffic news early this morning. this is a live picture of i-76 and the boulevard where a tractor-trailer carrying eggs has overturned. crews are now working to clean up the mess. our other top story of course. labor day weekend. people getting ready to enjoy the long holiday weekend. a live look here at cape may. many people will be down the shore today trying to enjoy one last long weekend of summer. of course that means it will be really busy on the roads this weekend. looking live at the ben franklin bridge. if you're trying to get an early jump on traffic, we'll tell you about areas to avoid including that egg truck accident. not a great weekend to drive into center city.

a live look at the area around the bend ben franklin parkway. made in america music festival back in philly this weekend. tens of thousands of people will be in town for two days of music and that means big crowds and road closures. welcome to "nbc 10 news today" on this friday. i'm chris cato and then we have hurricane cristobal creating that risk of rip currents down the shore. you see the satellite image here of cristobal very far away but still churning up the surf. we expect that rip current risk to wind down over the next few days. at the indian river inland at delaware, surfers enjoyed some big waves this week. the rip currents have been dangerous for some swimmers. lifeguards had to make dozens of rescues at the shores over the past few days. we have team coverage of what to expect over the weekend with jesse gary checking out made in america. katy zachry an eye on the roads. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley with a look at the forecast. bill? >> we're starting off much cooler this morning. temperatures are down 15 degrees compared to yesterday morning

under clear skies very comfortable conditions. the humidity is so low and will stay low today. nothing but sunshine is in store for center city. today, 62 degrees at nbc 10. currently at philadelphia international it's 62 degrees but look at the 50s for trenton, wilmington, pottsville, millville. most of the area is in the 50s. philadelphia might cool into the 50s as the numbers are still falling right now. a sunny, breezy day. 64 degrees at 7:00. by 9:00, 68. lunchtime instead of 80s like we had yesterday at noon, we'll be in the middle 70s. we'll go through it hour by hour but first katy zachry is in for jillian mele with traffic. >> i'll following a developing situation affecting drivers on route 1 southbound those headed to 76 westbound. take a live look. this is an overturned tractor-trailer. it's been out there for the last hour or so. completely blocking the ramp from route 1 southbound to 76 westbound. i do have alternates for you.

an alternate to get around this mess, take ridge avenue to the city avenue bridge and then back to 76 westbound. it looks like it will be out there for quite some time. you'll want to heed that warning. of course we're talking about the made in america music festival this weekend. road closures already in place right now on the ben franklin parkway talking about inner drive. it's closed between 20th street and eakins oval. alternate is fairmount avenue. coming up at 10:00, more closures in place so throughout the morning i'll give you updates as to those. this is a live look at 42 roadway. other than typical construction zones which aren't active, traffic is moving great in both directions. let's get back to what you were talking about there. made in america this weekend. a big weekend for philly. a live look this morning at the art museum where the stage is being set for that two-day music festival with some huge acts coming to town. concerts on saturday and sunday will bring tens of thousands to

the ben franklin parkway. it's already brought one person there. nbc 10's jesse gary live on the parkway this morning. is it all quiet or are crews working even at this early hour to get ready for this big festival? >> reporter: we have some crews further down by the main stage down by the george washington statue doing work. but other than that, pretty quiet and security crews. you can see all along the parkway philadelphia police have lined up blocking off the inner lanes to the ben franklin parkway and outer lanes will close later. bear that in mind. you heard katy talk about that. preps are moving into place for the two-day weekend event. this year made in america will have concerts taking here and in downtown los angeles. hundreds will descend around noon to see 50 acts headlined by kanye west. organizers stress the event is

new from overnight, a funeral was held in jerusalem for a student from ocean county. this was the scene just a short time ago outside the service. people gathered at the school in jerusalem where aaron sofer was stu studying. sofer's body was found yesterday almost a week after the 23-year-old from lakewood disappeared in israel while hiking. searchers found his body about a mile from where he was last seen in the jerusalem forest. investigators say he was hiking along a ridge at the time he disappeared and there are no signs of foul play. this morning president obama is weighing his options when it comes to dealing with two foreign policy crises. one is isis in the middle east and the other is growing violence in eastern ukraine. >> reporter: let's start with isis. the president says the united states does not yet have a strategy in place to deal with that militant group. yesterday mr. obama held a news conference at the white house.

he says the united states will need help from partners in the middle east and according to officials, the president is considering striking isis targets on their home turf in syria. the u.s. is already hitting militant targets in iraq. officials say there have been more than 100 air strikes there in the past three weeks. but when it comes to syria, officials are still working on a plan. >> i don't want to put the cart before the horse. we don't have a strategy yet. as i've said rooting out a concert like isil will not be quick or easy but i'm confident we can and will working closely with our allies and partners. >> the president is ruling out military action in ukraine where russia is sending forces into the country. mr. obama says he'll meet with ukraine's president next month and discuss more sanctions against russia with nato allies

during his trip to europe. the president believes sanctions put in place in russia have been effective. reporting live in digital operation center, christine maddela, nbc 10 news. fiji's military says 43 of its soldiers working as united nations peacekeepers have been captured by militants in the golden heights. those troops are alive and unharmed right now. the rebel group that kidnapped them has not been identified. testimony will resume in the trial of a philadelphia woman accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a young girl. christina regular usters is acc of kidnapping and sexually assaulting the girl. she's expected to take the stand in her own defense. prosecutors say regusters is the woman in this video. yesterday in court we heard testimony from the girl's

father. he became emotional when describing how he felt when his daughter went missing. he said he fears the worst. today court will adjourn early for the labor day holiday. a firestation in old city that was damaged during a fire will reopen later this morning. this is video from that fire last september. since that time, firefighters have been working out of nearby firehouses. workers installed new doors, ceilings and other features at a cost of nearly half a million dollars. today u.s. senator will honor u.p.s. drivers who have 25 years of safe driving. 20 employees will be recognized this morning at the u.p.s. facility in newark. sunshine is on the way. it's going to be a beautiful day today. you're looking at clear skies over center city. that's a live view from the adventure aquariaquarium.

we'll see plenty of sunshine and not much humidity. nice breeze blowing yesterday has made a difference this morning. much cooler. down 15 degrees compared to yesterday. a real beautiful day. for august very unusual to see temperatures topping out in upper 70s. that will happen today. things change quite a bit over the weekend. heat, humidity return and so do the chance of showers for the weekend. all right. 55 degrees right now in allentown. 56 in atlantic city. 60 degrees currently in northeast philadelphia. still falling and dry in cape may. there's a clear view of beach avenue. a nice sunny view during the day. satellite shows no clouds for the shore. inland we're cloud free for today. there's a chance of showers as we head into the latter part of the holiday weekend later sunday and monday. we could see some wet weather but it's not happening today. hour by hour forecast has us at 67 degrees in philadelphia.

look at the 50s for the pocono mountains. we head to noontime, temperatures climb. 74 in philadelphia. 70 even in allentown and atlantic city is at 69 degrees. and this afternoon we'll be in the upper 70s. 79 degrees in philadelphia. the winds will shift a little bit and become more easterly but a lighter wind than yesterday staying below 10 miles an hour during the day today. so standby for lots of sunshine. your shorecast when we come back. katy zachry has an update now. >> as drivers hit the road later this morning, we're going to see issues on 76 westbound. so we've been following this tractor-trailer accident. overturned tractor-trailer accident. it's affecting traffic in two directions. drivers going from route 1 southbound to 76 westbound, thi is what you're dealing with.

an alternate around this is ridge avenue to city avenue bridge back to 76 westbound. it's also affecting traffic for westbound drivers. 76 westbound drivers. the off-ramp to city avenue is blocked because of this. an alternate for you continue west on 76 to the second exit ramp for city avenue. it's quite a mess out there this morning. we'll keep you updated with alternate routes around it and of course the made in america music festival happening in center city philadelphia today. ben franklin parkway inner drive is closed from 20th street to eakins oval. later in the morning there will be closure midday through tuesday. i'll tell you about those coming up. >> all right. thanks. it's a story we've been following since it broke early wednesday morning. three men kidnapped, stabbed and dumped in the schuylkill river. two died and now police say they know the motive. and apple's announcement. why september 9th is a date plenty of people will mark on

it's 4:15. there's new information on the three men who were kidnapped, stabbed and thrown into the schuylkill river. the two people that died were brothers. we know the motive behind the be a destruction was drug money. the brothers gambled away $100,000 they were given to buy drugs. the third man couldn't come up with enough money to free them and he was abducted, bound and stabbed. the attackers put weights around the brothers' legs. police say they now know who they're looking for. >> they have a lot of money and

they have a lot of different locations they lived at through the years so right now we don't know where they're at or where they're headed. >> also yesterday police towed this car. it's apparently part of the investigation but police are not saying how. and this morning philadelphia police are also looking for the man who robbed and shot a northeast philadelphia businessman in a parking lot filled with witnesses. security cameras captured the suspect's van here. two masked men waited for the victim, rushed up, block the in his car, broke out his windows and demanded his money. they shot him in the arm before getting away with $70,000 that was going to be deposited. >> the motive obviously for the shooting is robbery and it appears that this particular victim was the intended target. >> my wife comes here all the time. i don't think she'll come here anymore. i'll tell her not to. >> a lot of people were in that pathway parking lot when the robbery happened. the victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to

survive. look at this. two people taken to the hospital after a tractor-trailer crashed into a row home. it happened last night. police say the driver of an suv ran a red light and driver of the big rig lost control trying to avoid a collision. no one was at home at the time of the crash. in canada, dozens of tourists were hurt after their bus crashed in british columbia. all 56 passengers were injured. six people are still in critical this morning. the military says an f-15 pilot died in this crash in the virginia mountains wednesday. the pilot was on his way to new orleans for maintenance when he reported an in-flight emergency before losing radio contact. he has not been identified. the coroner in las vegas says the firearms instructor shot and killed by a 9-year-old new jersey girl learning to use an uzi suffered a single gunshot to the head. the coroner says he's working on blood tests which will take several weeks to complete.

authorities are investigating the shooting. and this morning joan rivers is resting comfortably in a hospital after going into cardiac arrest. she was at a doctor's office at the time and immediately rushed to the hospital. the 81 year old was scheduled to perform a schedule in red bank, new jersey, this evening. that show has been postponed. rivers' representatives have not commented s eed so far on the m situation. apple will make an announcement on september 9th. the company is expected to show off a larger iphone and possibly computerized watch. apple has not released details about the new gadgets. we all wait with bated breath. >> monitoring the weather this morning and so far so good. nice and clear and comfortable. humidity is low and cooler. a bit of a breeze not as strong

as yesterday. enough to keep humidity low. 60%. look at that number. 62 degrees. down 15 degrees compared to yesterday at this time. shore waiting for plenty of sunshine. there's still a problem with the ocean. still churned up. cristobal is still well offshore turning up the seas. 15 degrees cooler in trenton this morning. down 16 in northeast philadelphia. and in millville and that cooler condition will stay with us this afternoon. we'll not make it into the 80s later today. 62 in philadelphia. 51 in chester springs. quakertown down to 52 degrees. and it's 56 atlantic city at the airport. cape may is 67 degrees and 50s for much of delaware. newark and dover at 59 degrees and still cooling down at this time. with clear skies, we'll see plenty of sunshine today but we are watching storm system well off to the west. that will start moving in sunday. we'll feel the difference with clouds and possibility of

showers and thunderstorms. meantime, that hurricane is pulling away from us. it is still churning up the sea so there's still a risk of rip currents today. a moderate risk. 77 degrees this afternoon. that risk diminishes as we head into the weekend. 78 degrees. winds will shift around. humidity comes back on saturday and then the chance of showers and thunderstorms for the jersey shore and delaware beaches sunday afternoon with a high of 78 degrees. got the full holiday forecast with the seven-day in the next half hour. >> 4:20. let's get an update on the situation on 76 at the boulevard. overturned truck could lead to big problems later this morning. nbc 10's katy zachry has that. katy? >> an overturned tractor-trailer. an update from penndot and state police hope to have it cleared out in the next hour, hour and a half. right in time for rush hour which would be great news for drivers. drivers on route 1 southbound you are affected because you cannot exit on 76 westbound because of this overturned tractor-trailer.

an alternate around that is ridge avenue to the city avenue bridge and then onto 76 westbound. it's also affecting drivers going from 76 westbound to city avenue. that first city avenue exit is off-limits. alternate to get to city avenue is continue westbound on 76 to the second exit ramp for city avenue. so lots of reworking around this tractor-trailer mess. we'll keep you updated as it continues. of course in center city philadelphia the ben franklin parkway inner drive is closed from 20th street to eakins oval and then alternate around that is fairmount avenue. a south jersey community wants you to start your holiday shopping this labor day weekend. they are kicking off the campaign shop dine and go local. local leaders will support local businesses. >> take your pledge and raise your right hand. >> they really did make a pledge. i thought that was just a cliche we were using.

the campaign encourages people to give back to their neighborhood by spending at local businesses. county officials say every dollar spent locally gets reinvested. >> look to local small business. >> we shop here. we dine here. we live here. the vibrancy and vitality of our community depends on supporting that. >> county officials say the push to get people spending locally this labor day weekend will help them get away of the big brand name stores on black friday. philadelphia police were on the move overnight after gunfire on a city street and nbc 10 camera was there. it's what officers found a few yards away from the shooting scene that makes this investigation interesting. and return trip. the suspected thief that local authorities came back twice in a school break in caught on camera.

eagles fans waking up happy this morning if they're waking up at 4:25. 62 degrees as we take a live look at the link. eagles finished up preseason last night with an impressive win over the new york jets. birds backups put up points. matt barkley got things started in the first quarter. 43 yards. barkley would finish with 253 yards passing and a rushing touchdown to cap it off. michael vick back in philly. he was in for one play. and then the jets took him out and he received a nice ovation from the crowd. this morning police in ocean county are looking for a burglar who broke into the same school twice in the same day. it happened monday at st. dominick's. a staff member saw the burglar inside the building. he said he was looking for
