atlantic city takes another hurt. in hours, revel will close up its hotel. we are live with what it means for workers there. and today grief counselors will be at a bucks county school after three students die and three others were hurt over the weekend. taking a live look outside. we're in for a steamy labor day. temperatures will soar this afternoon. some may see a scattered storm. welcome, this is "nbc 10 news today." look at this video from black wood, camden county.

there was plenty of this around as the storms rumbled past. the rumble of thunder could be heard in audubon, camden, county. this area got hit hard. let's get to meteorologist bill henley with his first alert forecast. any more storms like this on the way? >> the heavy storms are offshore. still a chance we will see scattered showers and thunderstorms. not as widespread as last night. heading out the door now, it's steamy. the road is damp. in cape may, that's beach avenue. some showers are inland. scattered showers, mainly on the light side. there can be some brief, heavy downpours, even later this afternoon. right now watching one heavier shower moving eastward through lancaster county through west cullen in chester county. also watching for fog, too. visibility down to two miles in coatesville, just under two

miles in allentown. the temperatures are warm. it's steamy outside. 74 right now in philadelphia. 73 in trenton. the temperatures will be climbing. we made it into the 90s yesterday. it will likely happen again this afternoon. this morning, 70s to start with. upper 70s by 9:00. middle 80s by lunch time today. katie zachary is watching traffic. >> there is some fog out on the roadways, some roads are a little whet. we are watching an incident on a holiday no less, 76 westbound, you can see the flares up here in the left-hand lane. an accident happened a short time ago. that's taking out part of the left lane. that's near montgomery drive. philadelphia, center city, they are cleaning up from the made in america music festival. one of the biggest road closures, ben franklin parkway, inner and outer drive from 20th street to aikens oval.

there are so many roads closed, atroid tvoid the drive. mlk drive between parkway and sweet briar, kelly believe between fairmount and eakins oval. all of those roads are closed right now through tomorrow morning. of course, for all of the shore-goers, this is a live look at the garden state parkway near the cape may toll plaza. if you want to hit the road early and get back home after your long holiday weekend, this is a great time do it. philadelphia police are investigating what caused a deadly crash. it happened around 8:30 last night on north delaware avenue and lewis street in the port richmond neighborhood. police say the driver lost control and slammed into a utility pole. he died at the scene. police have not identified the victimment. police are looking for the person who pulled a trigger in a

deadly shooting in southwest philadelphia. the victim was hit in the chest near 60th and almond. that man died a short time later. atlantic city's newest casino hotel will start shutting down after two years. revel will close after it couldn't find anyone to buy the property and it comes one day after another casino was forced to shut it's doors. matt delucia is live in atlantic city with more. matt? >> reporter: vai, good morning. showboat closed yet, now revel is set to close the hotel today and the casino will close tomorrow as we look at the resort here. the big difference between revel and showboat is that showboat had been open for 27 years, revel was open for just two. unfortunately folks here in atlantic city are starting to get used to seeing this. here's some video from yesterday with workers at the showboat putting up signs saying the casino was closed.

little more than 2,000 people worked there. some have been able to get new jobs at other casinos, but it has been fairly tough as this is not the first two properties to shut down recently. atlantic club closed in january. and after revel, trump plaza is scheduled to close later this month. a former dealer at showboat talked with us about the difficult day. >> it's difficult. very difficult. it's history. this building did not deserve it. this casino made money in the last quarter. it never went bankrupt. it always made money. it did not deserve this. >> reporter: talking about revel, as we come back here live and look, you can see some of the lights on in the hotel, some people have been staying there on this final night. checkout is 11:00 a.m., that's when the hotel is set to close. this place cost $2.4 billion to build.

it filed for bankruptcy twice, more than 3,000 people work here, all will be looking for new jobs as a result of this closure. the hotel closing today. the casino closing tomorrow morning. live in atlantic city, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. the state is stepping in to help workers affecteded by the closing. starting wednesday the department of labor and work force development will join the unite here union at the atlantic city convention center for one week. their services will range from linking workers to social services to helping those concerned about making mortgage payments. count on nbc 10 news for more on the shutdown. we have an entire section dedicated to the closure on our website, nbc10.com. a bucks county high school will be open today after three students were killed in a car crash. an suv overturned in paupack township, wayne county saturday morning, about 70 miles north of

philadelphia. the three victims have been identified as seamus digney, cullen keffer, and ryan lesher, all sophomores and athletes at council rock high school south. three other kids were hurt in the crash. grief counselors will be available from 1:00 to 4:00 this afternoon for students and families. classes will begin tomorrow as scheduled. a bucks county man is behind bars after police say he shot and killed his brother-in-law during an argument. william rivera is facing criminal homicide and other charges. police say the two were inside this home in the 4400 block of fayette drive early yesterday morning. rivera pulled out a shut gun during an argument firing two rounds killing george rodriguez. rivera was taken into custody at the scene. police arrested a man in connection with a murder outside a restaurant in the overbrook section of the city. 27-year-old paul mickernen was

shod and killed last month near lucky garden on launds down avenue. 20-year-old monty small atwell is underarre arrest. these four men are facing drug charges. the arrests come after the county's drug squad busted a home in wilmington where one of the men lives this is what they found, more than 1100 bags of hero heroin, 33 grams of marijuana, a gun and cash. iraqi forces with the help of the u.s. and other countries have broken a six-week siege of isis fighters in a shiite town. now lawmakers at home are demanding a plan to ease the isis threat to the u.s. tracy davidson is lye in the digital operations center. there are questions about the u.s. strategy moving forward,

right? >> the isis threat to the u.s. is real and immediate, even some democrats are calling for action. this comes after that win you mentioned over the weekend for iraqi forces. they fought off isis militants who took over a town in iraq called amerle. the attack came after the u.s. had strikes on the area two days earlier. here is video of the french military dropping humanitarian aid in iraq over the weekend. australia says it is flying guns, ammo and aid into the country. australia is part of a u.s. coalition that includes britain, france, canada and italy. lawmakers are calling on president obama to come up with a plan for syria where isis is based. even some democrats are leaning on the president to develop a strategy. dianne feinstein talked about the situation yesterday on "meet the press." >> we'll learn one thing about this president, that is he is

cautious. >> reporter: when it comes to isis, senator feinstein said she agreed with her republican colleagues. this week the president travels to a nato summit in wales for a 28-nation meeting. the isis threat and the problems in ukraine are expected to be topics of discussion there. now news from the delaware bureau, wilmington has had more murders this year than all of last year. two men were shot and killed over the weekend. one man was brought to wilmington hospital before 1:00 a.m. yesterday morning. a second person was shot near 27th and tatnall streets about an hour later that brings the total people shot and killed to 19. this morning many will be celebrating labor day in philadelphia with a parade. it will start at 11:00 this morning on south columbus boulevard and washington avenue and end at penn's landing.

then there will be a festival until 2:00 this afternoon. because today is a federal holiday, all philadelphia offices are closed today. city services are reduced. no trash pickup today in philadelphia. collections will be one day behind for the rest of the week. post offices and federal courts are closed today. rain caused some problems at day two of philadelphia's made in america festival. thousands of people were told to leave the ben franklin parkway at the height of last night's storm. nbc 10 was there as drenched concert-goers were forced from the made in america closure. and here's a different angle of everyone leaving. this video was shot by david chang, a member of our web team. you can see people huddled under trees waiting for the storm to pass over. everyone was eventually allowed back to the concert area. ♪

the rain didn't dampen the crowd's enthusiasm. pharrell williams was on stage last night. pharrell hit the stage at about 9:00 after the wet weather. now the cleanup is underway. this is new video into the newsroom from overnight. nbc 10 along the parkway just a few hours ago as workers used heavy machinery to pick trash and load it into dumpsters. tens of thousands of people attended the concert over the past two days. the big storms, they have taken a break. still tracking showers this morning and scattered showers are possible even later today. first thing this morning, all the rain. we have some spots of fog, it's not widespread. heat and humidity is something everybody will get today. back up to the 90 degree mark, a chance of showers and thunderstorms popping up. things are quiet in allentown,

72. 75 in northeast philadelphia. millville at 73. you can see the rain has had an affect at the shore. a bit damp this morning. there are a few more spots of rain. there are the big storms. they are off shore. scattered showers moving into burlington county. isolated showers, light stuff in delaware county. there is one heavier downpour moving to the south of well caln. you will see more showers this afternoon likely return. 8:00 this morning, 75 degrees. look at the clouds hanging around to start with. by later in the morning, 11:00 a.m., 82 degrees. a few showers starting to fire up in the area as the clouds thin out. that will allow the temperature to get closer to 90 this afternoon. hot, humid conditions, some scattered showers and a chance of thunderstorms later on. winds out of the southwest 4

news out of kolney. this is a live picture from the scene. here's what we know. a shooting happened within the past half hour. the victim is a woman who may have been shot multiple times. we're making phone calls in our newsroom trying to find out some more information about what happened. as soon as we get it, we'll come back and bring it to you. the syrian army says a large number of rebels were killed during clashes yesterday. the military released this footage showing explosions between government forces and the rebels. the united nations says more than 3 million syrians have fled the country since the fighting began more than three years ago. nfl player ray mcdonald is free on bail after getting arrested for violence charges.

he was take noon custody early yesterday morning. his arrest comes days after roger goodell announced stiffer penalties for players facing domestic violence charges. >> can't say too much about it now. the truth will come out. >> mcdonald has been a starter for the 49ers since 2011. he is due in court in about two weeks. in texas, police accused a man of flying a drone over a college football stadium during a game. this happened saturday during the match-up between texas and north texas. police found the man and ordered him to land the aircraft. he was taken into custody. the drone was confiscated. no charges were filed. heavy rains caused massive headaches in europe yesterday. one of sweden's largest cities saw heavy flooding. a bus got stuck in water under a bridge. the people inside had to break out windows so rescuers could

pull them to safety. many people lost electricity as well. nasa released these videos of solar flares that have been spotted on the sun's surface over the last week. there was a mid level flair over a week ago followed by more than six over the next few days. if solar flares are intense enough, they can disturb gps and communication signals on earth. we will see limbed directional solar radiation this morning because of clouds in the way. it's going to be a steamy day today. starting off humid. look at the low clouds moving through center city. some areas of fog, we're watching for that after all the rain yesterday. 74 degrees. 93% humidity with just a little bit of a breeze out of the south-southwest. it's at 5 miles per hour at the airport. you can see the flag is at rest at nbc 10. clouds overhead.

still scattered showers and temperatures that are nowhere near the normal temperatures, which are usually in the 60s this time of year. it's a warm start for wilmington, philadelphia and northeast philadelphia, all in the middle 70s now. allentown, quakertown at 72. delaware in the low 70s. 74 in avalon. 71 in clayton and vineland. clouds, we have plenty of them. mail stay with us most of the morning. they'll start to thin out as we get into the afternoon hours. we'll watch for thicker, brighter clouds, the possibility of more showers. showers are scattered, but it's not as intense as what we saw last night. neighborhood by neighborhood, 80 degrees this afternoon. mount pocono, high humidity for allentown, reading, quakertown. scattered showers this afternoon. 90 for trenton, northeast philadelphia. mt. holly, a possibility of showers later on. showers will be scattered in

delaware and south jersey. thunderstorms will roll through at times this afternoon. temperatures in the 80s. inland, the numbers go higher. 90 for wilmington, philadelphia, voorhees, glassboro with scattered showers. not the widespread rainfall like we had last night. it looks like a hot week shaping up. got the seven-day forecast coming up in the next half hour. at 4:22, it is a holiday so maybe not as many people out there. but there is cause for concern out there. here is katy zachry. >> we have road closures, and also flooding incidents. for everybody coming back from the shore. if you hit the road early, you are free and clear. this is route 42, the 42 freeway at creek road. really no one is on the road right now. that's a good thing if you're headed out. we have flooding in camden county, this is winslow township, white house pike eastbound at east fleming pike. the right lane is blocked.

you better prepare to pay more for today's labor day cookout. the biggest increase is pork which is up 10% due to a virus that has plagued pig farmers. steaks cost about 9% more because of low cattle supply and increased international demand. hot dog prices are up 70%. chicken prices 3% higher. the good news, the price of soda and beer remain relatively unchanged. it's a steamy one this morning. some areas with low clouds and fog. the big storms have ended, there are still showers that we're tracking this morning. right now, 73 at nbc 10.
