i'm chris cato. brittney shipp is standing by with her first alert forecast. good morning, brittney. >> be careful as you're heading out for work and you could run into a few slick spots. this morning you will not need the umbrella heading into the afternoon. but a closer look right now at the philadelphia sky line. if we put you over to radar we'll show you exactly where the batch of rain is and it's off to the west and see the central part of the state and already starting to see activity moving into lancaster county and all these showers are tracking to the east this morning. as we head into the rest of today, we are going to see temperatures, again, staying below average. so, another repeat of what we saw yesterday tempturewise ranging between 73 and 76 degrees and gradual clearing as you head into this afternoon. i'll track how long our temperatures are going to stay below average in our first alert seven-day forecast but first let's check in with christine

for a closer look at traffic. >> when the rain starts moving into our area i will monitor the effect on our roadways. already problem physical you're traveling on the boulevard southbound. be eon the look dut between red lane road. that's in the outer drive because crews are dealing with a fuel spill there. something to watch out for, not causing any major delays. look at the ben franklin bridge this morning. things are looking pretty egood. if you're heading into philadelphia, know there is some construction on the ben franklin bridge taking out the right two lanes. on interstate 95, this is that section here on the southbound side and it is this long-term construction project. if you travel this every morning, you know it's there, but just at this hour be aware it is out there blocking that right lane but not causing any slow downs, we're still early in our morning right now. not head under to the rush. that's why we're seeing all green lights out there. travel times are looking pretty

good. if that changes, i'll keep you updated. chris? we continue to follow breaking news where a man shot and killed a man who was trying to break into his apartment. katy zachary is live on the scene. what do you know at this point? >> as you can see ebehind me, philadelphia police are still on scene called around 11:30 for the report of a shooting inside a home circle apartment. right here you can see on the second floor that window is on, that light is on through the window. a 32-year-old man broke into an apartment through the second floor rear window eand entered the bedroom of a 41-year-old man who lived here. the homeowner had a revolver in his position. here's what police say happened next. >> possibly may have been a struggle, however we know that the 41-year-old male fired one shot striking the 32-year-old victim in the head one time.

>> and that, that 32-year-old victim, he was taken to the hospital where around 1:30 this morning he was pronounced dead. the man who lives here has a 20-year-old daughter who was in her bedroom at the time of the shooti shooting. both she and her father were here when police arrived. we understand there may be more information coming from the shooting and i'm going to get an update and have another live update for you in about a half hour. reporting live in the home circle section of the city, katy zachary, nbc 10 news. the casino crisis deals another blow to atlantic city today. in less than two hours another casino will close its doors, trump plaza is shutting down at 6:00 this morning. nbc 10 jesse gary is live in atlantic city and a sad and very similar scene playing out again on the boardwalk. >> that's right, chris. right now some of the machines are already shut down and tables

are closed. last of the employees ready to dim the lights starting at 6:00 this morning. despite being in the center of the boardwalk with easy access to the beach. the plaza has seen a steady decline and ranked dead last when it will be the fourth casino to close this year and the management company says the soul remaining trump property here and coming up in two minutes reaction from some of the 1,000 employees who will be losing their jobs. jesse gary, nbc 10 news, chris. >> as you talked on there, jesse, trump plaza the fourth atlantic casino to close this year alone. and then in november trump taj mahal could be number five. they sent out notices last week. so far 10,000 people have lost their jobs in that closing. there is hope, though, one of

the properties may reopen, a bankruptcy court judge has approved an auction scheduled for september 24th. it was approved after a florida developer made a $90 million cash bid last week. an attorney for that developer said parts of the building could reopen within a couple of weeks after the sale and a casino will likely operate inside at some point. reports also say that developer is considering buying the show boat, as well. kouncount on nbc 10 to cope updated. we have an entire section dedicated to it on our web page. police say a man died after being shot around 10:00 last night. now, this happened at the family tavern, that's at the corner and bettington street. the shooting stemmed from an argument over the game of pool. the suspect is still on the loose and police are hoping the security cameras which capture the shootings will lead them to

an arrest. six minutes after 4:00 and this morning the expanded fight against the militant group isis is well under way in two countries and the u.s. is taking part. tracy davidson is live in our digital operation center where she's tracking all the developments overnight. tracy? >> coming up today several cabinet members will testify before the senate armed services committee to discuss president obama's plan against isis. while that happens here at home, kurdish air strikes have regained some ground against isis militants outside mosul. that area was retaken by the group back in june. their forces regained control of, armed forces are fighting back against the terror group. one bridge used by isis forces was destroyed. the syrian government has started to talk about launching an air attack. we'll continue to monitor the situation on air and online. live in the digital operation

center, tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. happening today the war on ebola. the obama administration getting set to send 3,000 personnel to west africa. president obama will make the announcement at the disease control and prevention in atlanta today. provide medical and logistical support victims of the ebola epidemic. if good morning. as we head into the rest of today, we are tracking morning showers. fall-like weather is going to continue as we head into the rest of your workweek. we are also going to see a dry stretch once we get rid of all of these showers. drier conditions on the way for us. a closer look at our radar. we're already seeing a few light showers moving into parts of lancaster county and as we head into the rest of this morning, a few slick spots out there on the road. so, currently, this is where that first batch of moisture is

where it moved into our area and tracking to the east here. we could see this into parts of chester county in the next 20 minutes or so. as we head into the rest of your morning hours by 7:00 a.m., more of the light rainfall through the i-95 corridor and parts of wilmington pushing into your late morning hours, 9:00, 10:00. most of the rain right along the shore. you notice by 11:00 a.m., we're going to clear up and see temperatures staying in the mid-70s but we'll also see our clouds clearing and as we head into the afternoon, very similar to the conditions we saw yesterday. it was a beautiful day yesterday. for philadelphia, we're at 62 degrees and humidity at 68%. and wind speeds out of the east, southeast and visibility is clear and our temperatures across the rest of the region at 55 degrees in the poconos. 51 in allentown and 56 in atlantic city and 69 degrees in dover. for today, our temperatures staying below our average of 79 degrees ranging between 73 and 76 degrees.

early showers expected in the morning, but after 11:00 a.m. we will start to see gradual clearing and i'll have your seven-day forecast, coming up. ten minutes after 4:00. the skies may not be clear, but hopefully the roads are if you're out and about early on this tuesday morning. christine maddela will let you know if there is anything to slow you down out there. >> an issue on mass transit, chris. listen up if you're traveling amtrak northeast corridor. we ehave a service suspension and suspended indefinitely. amtrak between wilmington and washington, d.c. this is due to overhead wire problems. i'll keep an eye on this and see how long, like i said, they suspended it indefinitely. we don't know exactly how long that suspension will be infe effect, but i will keep you updated. on route 1 southbound on the boulevard if you are heading southbound just a heads up. there are two lanes blocked in the outer drive between red line

road and it isn't really causing any major slow downs at this hour, though, because there is just not a lot of volume on the road. same things go for that construction on ben franklin bridge. it's really not causing any slow downs heading from camden into philadelphia because there's just not a lot of folks on the road. whenever those rain showers start moving into our area, it could cause some problems on the road and i will monitor all the traffic cameras to see if that is the case. chris? a heads up for people who drive through bucks county. penndot crews working on a resurfacing project from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. all this week. and there will be more lane restrictions next week. the project is expected to wrap up in july of next year. so, count on some delays there for a long time. well, a walk to get some pizza in center city turn under to a nightmare for two men. those men were beaten by a group of people so severely that one

14 minutes after 4:00. a teenage girl is recovering after being found unconscious in kenny pack park. they're trying to figure out how the girl ended up in the woods. she was in her school uniform and a bump on her head and some bruises on the back of her legs. a man walking along roosevelt boulevard found the girl unresponsive and called for help. >> somebody walking by could see her. someone driving by would not be

able to see this female. so, we're very fortunate that somebody did walk by and did see this female unconscious and did notify police. >> again, no idea yet how she wound up there. the 15-year-old was taken to st. christopher's hospital where she is reported to be in stable condition. from our delaware bureau this morning, the wilmington police department is kicking off its citizen police academy today. an eight-week course designed to teach people about their police department. they'll learn about the procedures and the pressures that come with law enforcement. the wilmington police chief says one of the biggest goals is to build a relationship with the people of the city. >> we have the technology and we have the investigators who are able to go out here and, again, uncover a lot of crime, collect evidence. but when it comes to getting actual information and confirming things, we need that to come from the community. in order for the community to give us that information, we have to have that level of trust

built back. >> it starts today and some spots are open. the wilmington police academy is free if you're interested in attending. according to south jersey, new information on the story we told you about yesterday morning. authorities have captured these two young men who escaped from a youth detention center over the weekend. 20-year-old germane jackson were caught yesterday afternoon. they fled from the cumberland county detention center along with a juvenile inmate after overpowering a security guard saturday night. the juvenile was captured a short time later. there is now a $40,000 reward for information on the person who killed a pregnant woman and her baby in philadelphia on sunday. 25-year-old megan gatto was sitting outside her home when she was hit by a stray bullet. she was eight months pregnant. the baby girl was delivered but died a few hours later. police are looking for a man in black shooting who was shooting at a white ford sedan in that area. if you have any information, call police. also this morning, police

believe the gunman who ambushed two pennsylvania state troopers killing one of them may have had formal firearms training. fire night the shooter opened fire in blooming grove killing corporal brian dixon and injuring another trooper. the attacks may be related to an incident investigated by state police. the killer used a high-power rifle and may have received military or law enforcement training. corporal dixon spent a year at the belmont before being transferred to bloomi ing grove >> he was a natural leader and a good man to have here at the station. the guys that worked for him loved him. >> ten of his colleagues will be honorary pallbearers at the funeral in scranton. the reward for who killed him has reached $75,000. two men are talking to nbc 10 by being attacked and beaten by a group of men in center city. the men say they are being

assaulted because they are gay. the men were walking to get some pizza in the area of 16th and chancellor street when they were confronted by at least a dozen men and women. someone in the group asked if they were a couple. when they answered yes, they were jumped. >> when i had three or four of these guys on me i turned around and i saw his head hit the ground. like hard. and hard and didn't come up. his neck didn't move back up and i was horrified. >> speaking about his boyfriend there. the victims tell us the attackers repeatedly yelled home phobic slurs at the beating. one of the men has several fractured bones in his face. police say they do have video of the group walking along 16th street before the attack. no word on whether they'll release that video to the public. a 12-year-old wisconsin girl was accused of trying to kill a classmate to please a fictional

character. she and another 12-year-old are accused of attacking a classmate in a park on may 30th. one of the alleged attackers told investigators that they plan to kill the classmate to gain favor with slender, a character in an online horror series. the victim was stabbed 19 times. she did survive. well, classes are canceled today at this illinois middle school after a carbon monoxide leak sickened 140 students and adults today. a faulty gas powered boiler is to blame. officials had made repairs but they don't want students to return until inspections can be conducted. hundreds of firefighters are battling fires in central and northern california this morning. the so-called keen fire has burned more than 8,000 acres in the mountains above sacramento and a wind-driven fire near the sacramento state line has forced at least 1,500 people to evacuate. more than 1,000 homes and businesses are being threatened there.

good morning. as we head into the rest of your tuesday morning, we are going to see showers moving into our area. keep that in mind. as you get ready for work, you'll find delays. fall-like weather will continue for us and then once we get done with the showers today, we'll enter into a dry stretch. temperatures stay well below average for us as we head into the rest of your workweek. closer look at our radar rain moving into parts of lancaster county and chester county and new castle county. take a closer look at where the drain is. this is light to moderate rainfall and you can see it's really isolated here and we're starting to see a little bit more activity such into parts of r reading. as we progress into next several hours, wilmington stretching into parts of south jersey and cumberland. 8:00, 9:00, that's when we'll

see the light rain pushing into south jersey and along the shore and after 11:00 a.m. you'll notice most of the rain off shore and you'll see our clouds clearing up giving way to more sunshine as we head into rest of the afternoon. right now for philadelphia, 62 degrees and mostly cloudy sky and the rain has not reached the city yet. wind speeds out of the southeast and for the rest of our area temperatu temperaturewise temperatures started off in the 40s and 50s and potstown 51 degrees and 62 in philadelphia and mid-50s here in the poconos. yesterday around this time we were at 59 degrees in the poconos. the temperature change shows up 14 degrees in the poconos and 11 in millville and 12 in wilmington. our fall-like temperatures will continue and conditions staying below average and tomorrow 73. 4:21 now and let's get a check of traffic.

nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter christine maddela. a suspension on the amtrak line. has that been restored yet? >> i'll show you that in just one moment. but right now here's the good news. i want to start with the good news traffic moving along quite nicely and no major delays on any of our major roadways. this is interstate 76 the schuylkill expressway and you can see traffic moving along pretty well and the roads are still dry. if that changes, of course, we'll keep an eye on that as our showers move into that area. here is the extension on amtrak. any folks that travel between willemingi wilmington and washington, d.c., that service is suspended indefinitely due to overhead wire problems. we're keeping an eye on this and keeping in contact with amtrak to see when this service disruption will be resolved. but, for now, be sure to check

with amtrak if you travel this frequently. take a look right now, route 1 southbound, the boulevard between red line road and two lanes blocked on the outer drive due to a fuel spill. chris? well, a philadelphia-based clothing store is getting the wrong kind of national attention. it's all over this sweatshirt. we'll tell you why urban outfitters is apologizing for a design that seems to play off of a dark day for the university displayed on that shirt. plus, a gesture that got jonathan papelbon thrown out of the game over the weekend. and that is not the only backlish the pitcher is facing.

will no longer sell this controversial sweatshirt. it has holes in it and rusty red stains that could be interpreted of blood and that reminds people of the 1970 massacre on the school campus when ohio national guardsmen shot and killed protesters and wounded nine others. urban outfitters tweeted an apology saying they were not made to look like blood and just discolorations in the shirt. only one of the sweatshirts up for sale and it sold quickly. phillies' closer jonathan papelbon has been suspended. he was fined for his actions during sunday's game. after blowing a four-run lead he made the gestures towards the fans that were booing. he said he was just making an adjustment, but the umpire joe west ejected him saying he made an inappropriate gesture. baseball and the phillies are not buying papelbon's

explanation. in part the phillies fully support the decision of the commissioner's office which has exclusive jurisdiction. we apologize to our fans for the actions of our player. the eagles, in case you couldn't stay up late last night are now 2-0 after a last-second victory over the colts last night on monday night football. they fell behind 17-6 at half-time. used two key turnovers to get back into the game and jeremy mcland tied the game at 27-27. with three minutes left eagles got the ball back and cody parker the winning field goal. he had to do it twice after his first attempt fell through. the eagles won 30-27 and the new favorite eagles in town. and we're tracking showers moving into our area that is going to affect your morning commute. i am tracking exactly where the showers are and how long the rain will stick around. and on the roads, our majors
