to make it into the most secure location on earth, the front door of the white house. today everyone is asking who's responsible? kristin is live at the white house with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the records show he's a war veteran. he faced a number of charges including unlawful entry carrying a dangerous weapon. a law enforcement official said he had a pocket sized knife with him. gonzalez is held as the secret service steps up patrols and launches an investigation to determine how this unprecedented security breach could have happened. the secret service under fire this morning, two days after the man jumped the white house fence and made it inside the executive mansion. a witness captured the startling video. >> honestly i didn't think it was real. secret service agents were

yelling sir, sir, get down. >> the secret service ordered stepped up patrols outside the white house this morning. the president has quote full competence in the secret service. a smeshl agent says it's possible the breach happened with resources focused on the president's departure moments better on the other side of the building. >> we normally see the dogs and canines. it's likely because we were heavy on resources on the south ground, that's where the majority of resources were. >> it's the latest blow for the agency trying to rebuild the image after a series of embarrassing incidents including agents caught with prostitutes in 2012. >> the white house is most protected place in america. has to be safe when the president is there and not there. not only president but the personnel around the president critical to the united states. >> even though the first family wasn't home at the time, there's fresh outrage from capitol hill this morning. >> it's one thing it was a

with more on the isis threat, chuck todd joins us this morning. good morning. there's the international coalition needed. in many ways, we could say the president needs a coalition as well. further signs of disconnect this week. martin basically saying we shouldn't rule out the possibility of boots on the ground. why is there the continued disconnect #? >> the issue of politics. president obama who politically does not want to introduce even the idea that combat troops could be going back to middle east before he leaves office in the final two years. that's why he continues to rule it out. his military advisors testifying on capitol hill say you can't take it off the table. his former top military advisors on capitol hill said the same thing. you can't find a military advisor that wouldn't say that,

you can't take the idea of combat troops off the stable. the other challenge for the president this week, he's trying to find other countries to put in combat troops. the question is, he's coming to new york city u.n. week. a lot of residents don't # need the bad traffic week. it bring ace bunch of world leaders up there. part of the ask of the united states is going to be, will they put in combat troops if the u.s. doesn't? that's the question i have this morning for samantha. >> we'll look forward to seeing that later. secretary kerry is laying the ground work in that department. there's talk that maybe the focus of isis isn't the best as well. there are other terror groups that may have more immediate impact on the u.s. some coming out of syria. has the focus shifted too much at this point? is that the concern? >> there's a little bit of debate in washington, is there overhyping of isis as of them

being immediate threat to united states and immediate international concern. there's acknowledgment if isis is allowed to become a nation islamic extremist nation state, they could be extremely dangerous. right now they're not necessarily immediate threat. the immediate threat in the united states is lone wolf, radicalized american that ends up attacking us. that's what our intelligence fears. >> we'll check with you in a bit. thanks. lester sm. authorities are looking for a gunman that after bushed and killed a pennsylvania state trooper. the lock down has been lifted in the area where the resident is expected to be hiding. residents are warned to be careful. ron is in pennsylvania. >> reporter: good morning lester. the ellishelter in place order been lifted. this is dangerous and bizarre. police pulled back without revealing new information about

where they think he is or whether they even have a clue. at the edge of a community under siege, residents faced another night in the dark unable to get home. >> what are you going to do tonight? >> hopefully they'll let us back in. >> if they don't? >> we'll come up with a game plan and do something. >> reporter: for two days and nights, a massive policeman hunt for 31-year-old eric frein sealed off two townships ordering lock down for thousands as police zeroed in on an area police suspected frein might be held up. the order was lifted without ominous warning. the pennsylvania state police are concerned for the safety of the community. a statement said they do not have frein in custody. troop e ee eers said they're ded

good morning. hey. >> good morning. >> felt you shouldn't ignore me at least today. an escaped inmate considered armed and dangerous is on the run in california. four more captured overnight. all five broke out of the jail in central california. they face charges including attempted murder and armed robbery. police have not released details on the break out, capture or search. a rescue at sea in the shadow of new york statue of liberty. the tall clipper ran a ground. 121 passengers were on a beer tasting cruise. no one was injured. five doctors have contracted the deadly ebola virus. the doctors were exposed on an emergency cesarean section on a woman in guinea. many are infected due to lack of supplies like gloves.

good morning. i'm rosemary connors. it's just a few minutes before 8:30. before you head out the door let's get a check of the weather from meteorologist brittney shipp. cloudy out there this morning, britteny. >> cloudy and a foggy start to the morning. be careful if you're driving out there. temperatures push well above average on this final day of summer. 82 degrees our daytime high. let's take a look at the areas of fog. lancaster, it's the worst, down to a quarter mile visibility. half a mile in atlantic city. zero visibility in toms river. so definitely be careful in that area. our temperatures today between 79 and 82 degrees, nice conditions for tailgating for the eagles game. rosemary? >> thank you, britteny. happening now, nurses at a delaware county hospital is officially on strike.ç nbc 10 was at crozer-chester medical center when the picketing began just after 7:00 this morning. the nurses went on stroke at the end of the overnight shift. the walkout is set to run until tuesday. more than 500 unionized nurses have been working without

a new contract since june 8th. the major sticking point in negotiations is staffing. crozer-chester medical center says that trained replacement nurses will be filling in during the walkout. in another news this morning, three people, including two children, are recovering in the hospital from a pitbull attack in philadelphia. the victim suffered bite wounds in west oak lane yesterday. police did manage to capture the dog. i'm rosemary connors. now we'll head back to the "today" show. britteny and i will see you back here at 9:00. have a good one.

"today" show is it's a great platform for the audience to get to know who we are when we're not talking about the news. i love fitness, and over the last couple of years of the "today" show, our audience may have been on this journey with me. the 30 day fitness challenge, lester trying to climb over a wall. for me, it has really opened up so many different avenues with which i could explore, with which i could speak to people, i could learn more about myself and take this to the next level. the beautiful thing about health and wellness and fitness and all of it is if one person in the room is doing it, walking down that room, other people want to follow suit. anyone can do anything for 18 reps. there were so many different opportunities we could inject fitness and this healthy lifestyle into the show and suddenly the four of us became a pretty tight unit. we banal really excited about

time together. >> she instigates fun. >> fun. >> jenna in one word is awesome. >> it's been seven years. i literally grew up in this job. lester has been the one person who's been there with me from the beginning. our first year was really, really rocky. >> we didn't connect right away. >> he didn't really talk to me at all. >> you heard i didn't talk to her? she didn't talk to me. okay, i never talked to her. >> i bonded with lester probably a few years ago when the show went to utah for an outward bound survival overnight trip. it was the middle of the night. i h >> i had to get up and get something out of my bag. it's pitch black. nobody can see anybody. >> i got my camera and took a picture. >> all i could do was laugh.

it was funny. that was the point i kind of got her. we began to form this friendship. >> the trip down to jamaica meant a lot to me. >> we were exploring our connection to the island. >> we were on a boat. he was doing some weird shaky move. i would do it, but i'm probably go into contractions. >> i've got some moves. she always makes fun of my dancing. >> we enjoy spending time together on the set or off the set. >> it was her starting friday morning workouts that brought us all that much closer together. >> all my favorite moments with jenna have to do with fit hns which is appropriate since that's where she's moving to spend more time. the plank competition. the goal was to do the three minute plank. the goal was three minutes. she did three minutes. i did 3:15.

>> i'm going to miss our singing sets. they're amazing. totally off key. there's not a doubt in anybody's mind we're going to be singing. we are belting whether we know the word or not. that's the beauty of hit. >> just inside jokes jenna and i have. >> i love when we all get to do something together. the farming segment, i was really looking forward to. i had never really done farm chores. i thought this will be interesting for me. it was even more interesting for jenna. watching jenna milk a cow was hysterical. >> that's easily enough. in my book, i feel job well done. >> jenna has this huge heart. she has a great sense of humor. people know her for sarcasm and wit. behind all that, she's kind of a mush. the first day that i met harper, she was so excited. watching them want to hold my child really made me believe that these are my friends. >> i remember holding her and singing a little mo town.

i think it was "my girl." it was like another member of our family, friendship. it was a special moment. >> the first weekend without jenna -- it gets me choked up thinking about it. it's going to feel lonely like we're missing a limb. >> i just enjoy working with her. i enjoy her company. i just love being able to laugh in the morning. rooirnl going to miss having my buddy around. >> she's a tremendous broadcaster. i would say caught hesitation, jenna is one of my best friends here. that's quite a statement for a guy who seven years ago was rolling his eyes going who is this person? >> i'm having a hard time thinking about the fact that i won't be getting up on the weekends and joining these guys anymore. i'm going to miss these guys. i really, really am. >> oh my gosh.
