this morning. this afternoon we'll likely see the first raindrops and then into this evening and into the weekend, as well. clouds are starting to move in overhead and otherwise dry. this is a view from the lowe's hotel in center city. we're watching the radar. nothing in our immediate area. right now the temperatures are still mild in philadelphia. 55 degrees and 50 in trentm and wilmington is 51. dropped into the 40s in interior new jersey. and it is in the 30s in the pocono mountains. the clouds taking over this morning. a cool start 54 and clouds are with us at 56 degrees and temperatures will be climbing and low 60s at lunchtime. but the far showers will not be far away at that time. we'll go with hour-by-hour and

katy zachary has traffic. good morning, katy. >> construction for our philadelphia drivers. this is right near the vine street expressway. this is the westbound lane of 76. there is a construction arrow set up right there and that's 76 eastbound and it's not tying up traffic at this hour. for our new jersey drivers this is a live look at 42 where we can see, again, an active construction zone. fortunately at this time not delaying traffic at this hour. route 14 northbound between route 41 and i-295 is going to be closed later today through monday. starting 3:00 p.m. friday. alternate to that is route 9. here's what we're following new from overnight. arrested a driver who crashed into several cars after running a red light. nbc 10 was at the scene. police say after speeding through that red light the car slammed into two different

vehicles and the driver got out and jumped into another car that was waiting for him. officers caught him a few blocks away iand no one was hurt, thankfully. now to the ebola outbreak and growing impact on everyday life. men in hazmat suits boarded this flight from philadelphia to the dominican republic and removed a man who reportedly said he had ebola. telling other passengers that. nbc 10 jesse gary is live at philadelphia international. jesse, this may be the first in many ebola scares that we will hear about going forward, right? >> it could be very true, chris. the level of uneasiness in this crisis has risen with each passing day. a week ago when i talked to passengers out here at philadelphia international many didn't seem concerned about catching this deadly virus. now, every little comment is taken seriously. >> i need your attention, okay.

yesterday a male passenger on a flight from philadelphia to the dominican republic sneezed and then joked he had eebola. panicked passengers sounded an alarm which led to hazmat workers removing the man. we are following the direction of and strictly hearing to all centers of disease control prevention and guidelines. we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused but the safety of our employees and customers. try to talk about how they feel about the hoax and the growing threat level. live at international airport, jesse gary, chris? the first study of a potential ebola vaccine is happening in africa. university of maryland researchers say three health care workers in mali have given three experimental shots by the

government. newark international will begin additional screening tomorrow. new jersey's airports are not yet ready to cope with the ebola crisis, but he says he is confident they will be. today the u.s. house committee on homeland security will hold a field hearing in dallas to discuss the ebola outbreak. ebola will continue through sunday. a doctor from atlanta's emory hospital where two ebola patients were successfully treated. six planes are in liberia to deal with the ebola outbreak there. the planes carrying 100 marines arrived in liberia yesterday. the u.s.&bojut(ujjt calls it the biggest health threat since aids. you can count on nbc and nbc10.com to bring you any enew developments as it happens. you can read more about the

efforts around the world. five minutes after 4:00, life in prison or death? a jury in montgomery county has to make that decision. yesterday jurors found him guilty on all counts in the murders of a baby girl and her grandmother in 2012. she told the jury that her son tried to commit suicide when he was 11 after his father was killed by terrorists in their native india. >> he had been everything he had been through. he is not an evil person. the defendant has his mother to beg for his life. but that same opportunity was not given by the defendant. >> prosecutors say he tried to kidnap that baby to get ransom money to pay for his gambling habits. also happening today, a court hearing in philadelphia to decide if former mob boss should be revoked. he kept himself out of trouble since being released from

federal prison three years ago. authorities dispute that, though. they have photos of molino meeting with mob members after his release. a probation hearing scheduled for north philadelphia rapper. his real name drug and gun conviction in 2008. in august, a judge denied early parole and ordered him back to jail on several probation violations. the ongoing police manhunt for suspected cop killer eric frein is forcing one community in the poconos to cancel halloween. supervisors voted to postpone the annual halloween parade and also canceled trick or treating. if frein is spotted efforts to arrest him on halloween could be dangerous. now, frein, of course, is wanted for shooting two state troopers outside their barracks killing one of them. 4:07 now. in the philadelphia school

budget crisis, unionized teachers will hold a meeting. they will gather at john kelly elementary school in germantown. they will hand out information that tells the truth about the sudden move to cancel the union contract. that rally is set for 8:00 this morning just before classes begin at kelly elementary. they arrested a protester in center city last night. nbc 10 was outside tom corbts office. that protest was in response to the determination of the union's labor contract on monday. there is outrage in wilmington after parents, students and teachers spoke out after what they call unfair conditions attached to a new grant program. nbc 10 was there last night for wilmington city council youth and family meeting. state officials announced that $6 million will be sent to struggling schools. district officials say there are big strings attached.

teachers would have to reapply for their jobs and the state would pick new principals. they could even be privatized. now teachers and school officials want to work with the state on a different plan. also in delaware, students at moyer academy charter school in wilmington will have to find a new school next year. the delaware state board of education voted to revoke that state's charter. the school got a new principal over the summer and replaced 90% of its teachers, but the state thought that was too little, too late. >> we're watching clouds come into the area. they've already entered the picture for south jersey. you can see northeast philadelphia is in the low 50s with mostly clear skies. it's 44 degrees and falling in allentown. no rain just yet, but the clouds will be increasing this morning. it's this afternoon that we'll likely see the first raindrops arrive and the threat will

continue tonight. satellite imagery shows those clouds that are, indeed, in delaware and to our west. these showers are streaming through the midwest yesterday and they're now in west virginia and moving into northern virginia, as well. the showers, though, not happening this morning. just temperatures rising this morning after a cool start. we'll be in the 60s this afternoon. but here comes the clouds and the future weather showing at 8:00 this morning, some sunshine to the north while clouds to the south. won't take long for those clouds to take over by noontime we'll be looking at cloudy skies and at lunchtime today, the first showers moving in from the west into western burkes county. just a few sprinkles at that time. by early in the afternoon, you can see the showers extend into the lehigh valley and the pocono mountains, but still dry in philadelphia, wilmington and dover and across south jersey. that changes during the afternoon hours. h 4:00 this afternoon that's when the rain will start moving in and a large area of mainly light

northeast extension and the two right lanes are blocked and also westbound between ben salem and willow grove. the two left lanes are blocked but that should lift in the next hour or so. taking a look in new jersey right now. smooth sailing, several local towns are about to get a roadway revamp that will make your drive a little easier. we'll tell you which ones. a fire chief is accused of stealing from his own department. the mistake that got him caught. and the eagles off the field action that will be in the national spotlight later this morning.

10 first alert radar. bill henley said they should arrive this afternoon and could be heavy at times and not an all afternoon, all evening event. some breaks in the showers and should last into saturday, as well. coming up, bill will tell us how much rain we can expect to get actress and comedian jan hooks has died. the 76-year-old was best known for her five seasons on "saturday night live" and spent two seasons on the sitcom "designing women." her official cause of death has not been released. the pilot of a small plane is recovering this morning after overshooting the runway in burlington county. sky force 10 was over the airport last night. authorities are still investigating, but they tell us the pilot suffered only minor injuries. this from our jersey shore bureau this morning. a fire chief is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his own department. bob risk ran the volunteer fire company for a year and a half.

during that time authorities say he withdrew almost $12,000 from a bank account designated for emergency needs and training. another member of the department went to police after he discovered that money missing. authorities charged him with that theft last month but word of his arrest didn't become public until now. >> something like this really hits you through the point of anger. >> now, we went to his house to try to speak to him, but a woman there told us he was not available to talk. we blurred her image there. the new chief told us one of his relatives gave him money to return the missing funds. four lakewood high school football players in ocean county face new charges now in a string of robberies. 18-year-old devon delaney and three teammates are charged with an attempted robbery in lakewood. that alleged victim came forward after news of their arrest broke

on monday. the teenagers are accused of three armed robberies in lakewood and two in toms river. the other suspects aren't being identified because they're juveniles. it may be friday, but everyone around philadelphia is looking forward to sunday. sunday night, in fact. oh, yeah, kind of a big game this weekend. a live look at lincoln financial. eagles hosting division rival the giants sunday night 8:30 on nbc 10. the birds are in first place and nfc east at 4-1 on the season. the giants come in at 3-2. it is going to be huge and you know it is a big game when the sunday night football bus has rolled into town. an interactive fan experience on wheels. mccoy fan getting on the bus there. the bus will be at an eagle pep rally from 10:00 this morning until 1:30 this afternoon and then on sunday the bus parked in front of xfinity live in philadelphia. the eagles and ronald mcdonald house in philadelphia have made a powerful team when it comes to helping families

with sick children. their efforts showcased later this morning on "today" show. rosemary connors is live in our digital operations center. this is a great story. so strong in philadelphia for decades now. >> many people may not realize it, but the eagles were very instrumental in getting the ronald mcdonald house started 40 years ago in 1974. this is video of the ronald mcdonald house on chestnut street. it provides families a place to stay together while children undergo surgery or possible treatment. 16-year-old regina mcgwire got a bone marrow transplant nearby in july. she says the ronald mcdonald house was a factor that swayed her family to choose c.h.o.p. for the procedure. >> i don't know where my parents would stay during the transplant or where i would be staying. it is really important this place. >> when people come to our doors, they receive devastating news about the health of their

going to take some time before the rain moves into the points along the shore, but, inland, we'll see it develop this afternoon. 51 right now in wilmington. northeast philadelphia is down to 52 degrees. there are some 40s. langhorn is at 48 degrees right now. and farther north and west, 46. quakertown just dropped to 43 degrees. a cool start this morning. clouds will be filling in and we will see the cloud cover during the day today. as far as rainfall is concerned, that's going to be happening early this afternoon. none in the area, immediate area. you can see the showers in west virginia are light and steadier, heavier showers that are moving through eastern kentucky and those are likely for us overnight tonight. so, the future weather shows by early saturday morning after it starts to early this afternoon, at about 12 hours of light rainfall, we'll have a quarter of an inch on the ground in philadelphia. but a bit more in parts of new jersey. by first thing saturday morning,
