march in philadelphia's thanksgiving day parade. here a sneak peek. see you back here next saturday at 7:00. ♪ >> this is the 65th year of the marching band. it has a huge tradition. the band's played on four continents. it's been at all five disneylands, a big claim to fame. many of the people think of the marching band as the diplomat of the pennsbury school district. >> check the instrument height! >> traditionally the thanksgiving parade is the last hurrah for the seniors. but our football team had different plans for us this year. they're going pretty deep into the playoffs. it's our 31st year in the thanksgiving day parade. we've been the honor band in there. we've brought santa in. some years we've had two production numbers plus playing the parade. they've been very good to us.

hit by a car. a philadelphia police officer is recovering after getting struck by a car in north philadelphia. good evening. i'm denise nakano. investigators say the officer was responding to a report of a gunman on the 2300 block of north bear hill street after 5:00 tonight. a suspect hit the officer then drove off. nbc 10's christine maddela is live at the scene. what's the word on the officer's condition tonight? >> reporter: we've been checking in with philadelphia police throughout the evening to find out about that officer. right now police tell us officers in stable condition at the hospital. at the scene there's a heavy police presence and a portion of dauphin street is blocked off as is a portion of fairhill street. you can see detectives are busy as well as the street being blocked off to traffic. take a look at some of the evidence at the scene. police first got to this intersection after someone shot a 25-year-old man several. you can see a gun left here on the street as well as shell

casings. the shooting victim is at temple university hospital in critical condition. and police tell me the officer who was hit by the car was hit when the driver of that car was taking off from the shooting scene here. police say they caught that driver and he is in the hospital right now being treated for his injuries. and this just in to nbc 10. a man is dead after a hunting accident in mercer county, new jersey. nbc 10 on the scene in west windsor township. authorities tell nbc 10 that the 45-year-old victim was hunting with his father when he was shot. officials say it appears the shooting is accidental. but they are still investigating. there is no end to the waiting and wondering in ferguson, missouri. that's because sources say a grand jury considering filing charges in the shooting death of unarmed teen michael brown jr. will reconvene monday. this is a live look at ferguson

tonight. businesses along this main drag have boarded up their doors preparing for possible violent protests. many thought the grand jury would make a decision whether to charge ferguson police officer darren wilson as early as today. but now multiple sources tell nbc news police and firefighters have eased back on their alert status. supplies are being moved into churches across the area that will serve as safe havens if needed when a decision is announced. police will wait until at least tomorrow to begin 12-hour shifts. while the grand jury will meet on monday, there's no guarantee they'll reach a decision then. meantime, michael brown's father returned to the neighborhood where his son was shot and killed back in august. michael brown senior went door to door, handing out turkeys in ferguson this morning. it was all part of a local charity's annual thanksgiving program. brown would not address the impending grand jury decision. protests related to the case are also planned in our region.

but only if officer wilson is not indicted on murder charges. one demonstration will start at philadelphia city hall and end at broad street and cecil b. moore avenue in north philadelphia. philadelphia police say they'll be on hand to ensure the safety of all citizens and the protection of property. you can count on nbc 10 and nbc10.com to bring complete coverage of the grand jury's decision once it's reached. finally, some relief from the bitter cold. we saw temperatures creep up today, but it was still chilly outside. nbc 10, it was a gray and windy day. many folks in the philadelphia area are keeping their fingers crossed for great weather tomorrow. taking a live look now at lincoln financial field where the eagles will take on the titans sunday at 1:00 p.m. not to mention the thousands of runners set to take part in the philadelphia marathon.

nbc 10 first alert meteorologist brittney shipp is here with a look at what we can expect. >> the good news is temperatures are going to continue to warm up as we head into tomorrow. so we will push into the 50s. here is your morning forecast for all the runners that are going to participate in the philadelphia marathon. 5:00 a.m. the sun will still be down. 43 at 9:00 a.m. by noon 51. heading into the 50s which is going to be good. it's going to feel more mild. satellite radar, sprinkles near the i-95 corridor stretching into parts of south jersey. mostly cloudy skies tonight. temperatures in the 40s right now. 44 in philadelphia. 40 in pottstown. 39 in dover. as we head into the rest of your evening we'll see temperatures dropping back down into the 30s. by 8:00 p.m., 42 degrees as we head into your 10:00 hour we'll see temperatures at 40 degrees. by midnight closer to 39. we have a lot changing with our weather including record warmth on the way. plus i'm tracking rainfall as we

head into your sunday night. and also the possibility of a rain-snow mix as we head into wednesday, the day before thanksgiving, what to expect is coming up in my first alert seven-day forecast. now to the casino crisis in atlantic city. the trump taj mahal is offering to restore health insurance to its workers as part of a last-ditch effort to keep the casino open. the company tells the associated press it will restore benefits for at least two years. in return, it wants the union to drop its appeal of a court order that canceled the health insurance and pension plans. the union president declined comment. the taj is scheduled to close december 12th. new information about a police chase we told you about last night at 11:00. it ended on columbus boulevard in south philadelphia. tonight, 36-year-old mattin jones is behind bars. police say he went to his former mother-in-law's home, snatched his two sons, and then took off. a philadelphia officer tried to pull him over but he would not

pull over. he was taken into custody after blowing out his tires. the chirp are doing okay tonight. a violent home invasion in north philadelphia sends the victim to the hospital. nbc 10 on the scene on the 2800 block of cecil b. moore avenue. police say a thief broke in through the front door and assaulted the man inside. he is in stable condition. the crook got away with an iphone and $1,500 in cash. more than 30,000 runners will line up tomorrow did race in the philadelphia marathon. the starting line is along the ben franklin parkway near the philadelphia museum of art. the course takes runners through fairmount park, university city, and manniyunk, back at the art museum. a lot of work has gone into making the 26.2-mile course safe and memorable. there will be a lot of the road closures including streets in

with the card most accepted in the philadelphia region, you have the power to do more. independence blue cross. live fearless. april overnight stabbing in kentsing ton leafs a man in critical condition. detectives say they got a call around 2:45 a.m. about a man lying outside the rite aid on west lehigh avenue, stab wounds in the back and hands. police say someone tried to rob the victim at another location. he collapsed in front of the drugstore. no arrest has been made. in kensington, firefighters were called to put out flames in a sports bar under construction. sbs the roof collapsed and the fire spread to two vacant buildings on kensington avenue. crews had the flames under control at about 45 minutes. no one was hurt.

that's after end issing the work week in the 30s. we're tracking the possibility of trouble as you try to get to your thanksgiving holiday on wednesday. i'll go over all the detailed on that. a live look outside, breezy conditions atop the air mark building. philadelphia, 44 degrees right now. humidity at 40%. wind speed out of the south-southwest at 11 miles per hour. temperatures throughout the area in the mid 30s in the poconos, 41 west chester, 43 mt. holly. low 40s in atlantic city. 43 in stone harbor. this is a big improvement from yesterday. take a look at our 24-hour temperature change map. we are up 15 degree in the poconos. up 13 in allentown. up 10 in philadelphia. 14 in wilmington. our satellite radar shot shows just a few sprinkles moving through parts of our air mainly confined to south jersey. we could see more sprinkles moving into parts of the poconos and suburbs. what we're going to focus on is this larger system to the south of us. our future weather shows the system organizes itself as we head into overnight hours

tonight heading into sunday. mostly cloudy skies for your sunday. it won't be until 10:00 p.m. that we start to see a chance of rainfall moving into you're region. it's going to continue into your overnight hours. around 5:00 a.m. it's the heaviest along the shore and atlantic city and parts of cape may. once the rain moves out we'll continue to see warmer air pumping into our area. we're going to see a high on monday close to 72 degrees. we'll break the record, 71 is the record set back in 2007. after this warmer air gets here the next thing we're going to focus on is a coastal system that could bring us snow and also a rain-snow mix. this is wednesday. so that's going to affect all your travel especially along the i-95. just one model is suggesting the possibility of rain and snow. we're still far out. stick with nbc 10 for more information. our wake-up testify tours, 7:00 a.m., a cold start. mild into the afternoon. 34 degrees for philadelphia to start off the morning.
