afternoon. >> i think i might head to the beach today. >> yeah? >> "today" show's up next. we'll have local updates in 25 minutes. >> updates any time at nbc10.com. good morning. the big melt. in the wake of seven feet of snow, temperatures rise and rain falls in buffalo. the city braced for what the governor calls a toxic brew of flooding, while al tracks another winter storm that could disrupt the holiday travel plans of millions. breaking overnight, a apartment building collapses in chicago after an apparent explosion. two women and a dog pulled out of the rubble. we're there, live. breaking his silence in a "today" exclusive, former nbc staffer comes forward, saying for years he helped bring women to bill cosby's dressing room and, in some cases sent them money afterward. >> i felt dirty. >> why he says he could no longer remain silent. and omg!

where the ft. houston army base was shut down after a man was stopped at the gate there. jim miklaszewski, what can you tell us? >> a saudi national in an automobile ran the gate at ft. sam houston in san antonio, texas, at 8:00 last night. not clear how far he got into the facility but he was stopped shortly thereafter by sam houston security guards. they took the man into custody, this saudi national, unidentified. but when they searched the car, they found, apparently, according to officials, explosive materials or actual ied, improvised explosive device. officials are still trying to figure out who this person is, what his potential motive would be.

they're not characterizing this as an attempted terrorist attack. but if it was a bomb, you could call it just that, matt. >> jim miklaszewski at the pentagon for us this morning. thank you very much. the weather is heating up across the country today. we may hit 70 here in new york city. while that is welcoming for some, it is leading to flood warnings for people in western new york after last week's massive snow storm there. kristen dahlgren is just outside buffalo this morning. hi, kristen. good morning to you. >> hey, good morning, savannah. just take a look at this. this creek expected to crest later on today. you can see it rushing. they're worried about ice jams slowing things up. have your bags packed and ready to go, the governor has told residents. where does seven feet of snow go when it melts? along buffalo's creek, growing concern that the snow that once plagued them with unpassable streets and collapsed roofs

could soon start melting into neighborhoods, filling basements or worse. fire chief dave pengallo has barely slept since the snow started tuesday. he knows today could bring more calls for help. >> the creek runs along the back of these houses here and it will just come, overflow, start coming through the street, the yards and everything. >> reporter: the water is already jamming up with ice and snow. so the state has stockpiled pumps and boats. the national guard is ready with food and water. while crews work tirelessly to try to keep drains and neighborhoods clear. a nearly constant stream of trucks adding to a mountain of snow, piled up away from the danger zone. >> everybody's going. that's the fastest they can possibly go. >> reporter: hoping that it's fast enough. so those trucks still out this morning. the snow operation still going

on. a little bit of good news, the rain wasn't quite as bad as they feared. but, al, the wind is going to pick up later today. that could push the water along the lake shore, cause flooding there. we could also see some more downed power lines. >> that's right, kristen. exactly. as we look on the radar and show you, we are seeing the showers ending. but those strong winds coming up out of the south, high wind watches and warnings in effect for that area. we're tracking some severe weather now through the southeast that's making its way through parts of georgia at this hour. georgia already seeing severe weather, severe thunderstorms. a risk of severe weather from the florida georgia line through the carolina coast. possible tornadoes with this. then here is what we're really watching as we get toward the travel day on wednesday. tuesday, low pressure forms off the florida coast. heavy rain develops. as this makes its way up the coast, could become a classic nor'easter. winds start pulling in colder air. we start off as rain along the

coast but then an icy mix and snow. that continues on into wednesday night. thursday, strong winds. look at the snowfall we're talking about, anywhere from nine to 12 inches of snow, interior new england into parts of west virginia. it's going to be a rough travel day. and then thursday, big problems possibly for the thanksgiving day parade because of very strong winds. a lot going on. >> all right, al. thank you very much. let's turn now to what is a very tense situation out in ferguson, missouri, with the grand jury deciding whether to indict that police officer who shot michael brown. they'll be back at it this morning. national correspondent craig melvin has the latest on this. craig, good morning to you. >> reporter: matt, good morning. 12-member grand jury set to return behind me at the justice center in a few hours. we do not know if the seven men or five women will vote today or if they'll just continue to consider evidence. tensions continue to mount. so do the prayers for peace.

rain-soaked protesters took to the streets once again. police were calm and understanding. >> prayer and protest are both the expression of the unheard. >> reporter: atwell spring church, prayers for a grand jury decision. >> it's kind of like waiting for a hurricane. you know, we don't know whether it will be a bad hurricane or if will just kind of die out in the ocean. >> jesus, may we pray. >> reporter: for some, waiting and wishing for different decisions before any potential storm hits. >> it's disheartening to know that their preparation is boarding up and calling in the national guard versus walking down canfield drive and engaging residents face to face. >> reporter: but officers have been doing just that. sometimes violent clashes between protesters and police since michael brown's death. >> law enforcement has had conversations. they've had meetings.

they've been talking and there's been understanding. >> reporter: but few here seem to understand why it's taking so long. >> there are cases where a grand jury needs to go over several days. but to have it stretch for as long as this jury has is really unusual. >> reporter: so months ago the county prosecutor said if the grand jury does not indict officer wilson, he would take the unusual step of going to a judge and asking that judge to release virtually all the evidence related to the case. yesterday we heard from a court administrator who said the judge may not release some or all of the evidence, despite the outcome of the grand jury. >> craig melvin in missouri this morning. thank you very much. student leaders at the university of virginia are holding a press conference to address shocking allegations of sexual assault on campus. it led the university to suspend all fraternity and sorority activity. peter alexander is in

charlottesville this morning. peter, good morning. >> reporter: savannah, good morning to you. this is one of the nation's elite universities and this is the fraternity where the most violent of those alleged sexual assaults is said to have occurred. this graphic article has sparked protests and backlash across the college community and the administration's handling of sexual assault on campus. on the university of virginia's campus, a silent show of outrage, with students sticking dozens of notes on the administration's doors, like "expel rapists" and rocks that each represent a survivor. protesters voice d their displeasure this weekend. >> this needs to stop now. >> reporter: multiple claims of sexual assault on campus detailed in "rolling stone," including an alleged rape at the fraternity house two years ago.

the university asked charlottesville police to investigate. uva's president announcing the suspension of all fraternities and related social activities for the rest of this year. >> the greek community needs to do some serious soul searching about the way that it has behaved, about the behavior it's tolerated, about the way that it's supposed to be. >> psi kappa psi say the acts depicted in the article are beyond acceptable, violent and intolerable. already under scrutiny of the federal government, which announced title ix investigations of the university. as students prepare to head home for thanksgiving, many are demanding their school's culture change. >> clearly something is not working. something is not right. people are getting hurt over and over again. that has to stop.

>> reporter: nationwide, the statistics are alarming. one in five women will be sexually assaulted in college. and some students here, matt and savannah, say that the administration isn't going far enough, that the suspension of greek life for the remainder of this year is insufficient. they'll protest the rush of fraternities and sororities this coming spring. >> thank you. natalie is here with a frightening accident in chicago. >> that's right. at least two women and a dog were pulled from the rubble after an accident in chicago overnight. >> reporter: we learned these women are 51 and 78 years old. the younger woman is actually already out of the hospital. in fact, she was back here, digging through this rubble, trying to find her belongings. and he says she didn't have a scratch on her. it's amazing, considering her apartment crumbled around her, falling a possible explosion here. >> i never saw nothing like this

a day in my life. therefore to have it in front of my house, you know, because it could have been us. >> reporter: a building collapse rock this had quiet chicago neighborhood sunday, trapping two women and a dog in the rubble. >> we heard a big boom. >> it sounded like a transformer blew. i looked out the window and couldn't see anything at first. it was like ash and dust. you couldn't see anything. it took me a moment to realize that building was gone. >> reporter: the collapse of the three-year-old apartment building pancaked all three floors into the basement. >> we're not sure if it was an explosion or collapse. we'll be able to find out more what cause this had. >> reporter: neighbors nervously watching rescue workers pulling out not only two women to safety but a dog named tigger. >> when i saw her come out i was like, oh, god bless, because i saw her moving. that's a blessing. because who would really make it out of something like this? >> reporter: and, again, good news is that one of the women is already out of the hospital.

tigger, the family dog, is expected to be okay. two firefighters combed through this rubble and no one else was found trapped. the power was actually knocked out for several hours, about 1,000 people in this area. it is back on now. investigators, like so many now trying to figure out why this happened. natalie? >> lauren petty with wmaq in chicago, thank you so much, lauren. orange safety indicator had been remove friday a bb gun that a 12-year-old boy pull friday his waistband by then being shot and killed by police. after getting a 911 call that someone was waving a gun. the caller did tell the dispatcher they thought the gun was probably fake. the boy grabbed the bb gun after being told to raise his hands. that is when officers fired. rice died sunday. two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. this morning, investigators are trying to figure out why a charter bus lifted off a highway

and overturned, killing one person and hurting 30 others. the bus was heading to los angeles from washington when it rolled over an embankment. two other passengers were air lifted to local hospitals. the same bus hit a denny's restaurant at a stop 50 miles from where the bus went off the road. investigators say driver fatigue may have been a factor in all of this. the rumors are finally confirmed. pop superstar katy perry will headline the half time super bowl show in february. a touching moment from the nfl on sunday. ty hilton's wife delivered a baby girl sunday morning. hilton got to the hospital just in time to hold little eugenia before the game. and he promised his baby he would score a touchdown for her. what did he do? exactly that. catching a 73 yard td pass. he cradled the ball like a

afternoon. the vine street expressway, 95, been problems all morning long. let's check on traffic with katy zachry. how do they look now? >> good news for the vine street expressway drivers westbound, that jack-knifed tractor-trailer has cleared, but still a lot of issues on 95 northbound. this is all of the backup and the delays approaching exit 6 because all morning we've had a closure between exits 6 and exit 7, which is the exists for route 320 and i-476. you can take 291 to stewart avenue and back on to 95 north around that. lastly, we are dealing with on the vine street expressway, a disabled vehicle right near broad street, just causing traffic to go around it. and we have an update on breaking news. a father is in custody for abducting his 3-month-old son. police say jonathan lawrence took the baby from a home in greenport, new york. the infant found safe in new jersey. police say is wearing a t-shirt.

comedy legend. for the first time a comedy insider has broken ranks, a man who now says he believes he helped bill cosby victimize women. the walls of his apartment is a shrine to years of working with bill cosby. he now comes forward to say he routinely brought young women to bill cosby's room and it was his job to guard the door. >> i felt like a pump. every time he had somebody, i had to watch, go, stay there. i felt dirty. >> reporter: scottie doesn't know what happened behind closed doors. he said he was asked to send money to women over the years, sometimes thousands of dollars a month. as more and more women have come forward with stories of alleged sexual assault, scotti said he felt skoorry for them and wante to speak out in their deference. >> he's not the person i thought he was. >> reporter: in response to scotti's allegations, cosby's attorney says it appears his

story is pure speculation so that he can get his 15 minutes of fame. friday, cosby himself told "florida today" i know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn't have to answer to innuendos. people should fact check. the facts being claimed in these decades-old situations are sometimes conflicting or inconsistent. still, many of the women tell similar stories all these years later. >> he put a pill down said, here, take this. this will make you feel better. >> reporter: at least 14 claim cosby drugged or attempted to drug them, including former playboy playmate victoria val n valentino. >> the phd, the great family man. you know, his legacy. well, this is his true legacy. >> reporter: a spokesperson for cosby says it is completely il logical that so many people would have said nothing, done nothing and made no reports to law enforcement. despite all the controversy, cosby received two standing

thanks for having me. >> a kind of general issue, men. we talk about prostate cancer, testicular cancer. we're trying to talk about that during this month. men are leery of talking about things like that. how do you go about changing that? >> one of the things i'm trained to do -- i'm an e.r.doc. so many men wait till it's too late. spreading the message, what we're doing right now today. spreading the message. don't be afraid to talk about these things. get it checked out. it could save your life. >> we talk about lives here. the numbers are this. average life expectancy for women in the united states today about 81. for men it's 76. if men go to the doctor more often, get checked up, can we start to change those numbers a bit? >> we can change those numbers. also we don't need to leave it to our wives to bug us all the time. because women feel this pressure. okay, guys, go. go see the doctor. get it checked out. but also we're going to get into this in a quiz but it's also what you're doing in between those doctor's visit. >> you mentioned quiz. i'm going to take my place over

ryan reynolds was there as well. his dad has had parkinson's for some time as well. we got to spend some time with him before the event and we'll air that tomorrow. >> let's talk about the weather. let's show you what we have. first of all, in the northeast, we're looking at a lot of wet weather. especially in buffalo. high-wind watches and warnings. big problems there. heavier showers and thunderstorms firing up through the southeast. in fact, we've got severe weather watches and warnings. weather might approach severe levels from the carolinas down into the georgia/florida border. and we're watching this low pressure that will develop, we think, tuesday morning, off the florida coast. heavy rain will develop, moving southeast. during the day wednesday, high winds and some travel will be a big problem. and as the system moves off, colder air funnels in. and so the rain changes over to snow. look at some of these snowfall amounts. we're talking up to a foot of
